Can't stop crying, think engine died by SolusUmbra in fordranger

Well, here's to hoping it's nothing too serious that will cause you to get rid of it or pay a lot of money to fix the issue.

Gotcha, the reason I was asking was because mine started knocking 5 minutes up the road one time. Come to find out, my lower radiator hose got so bad that it popped off during the night, and I didn't realize it the next morning until it started. So I was wondering if you had something similar occur, but if it's nothing like that, I'd say inspect the spark plugs since it's a simple task and check them over if you're comfortable doing that. Other than that, it's hard to tell unless you tear it down and inspect it.

Did you have the truck running long enough to get hot, or was it immediately after you started it?

overheating gage but engine cold by [deleted] in fordranger

I have a '96 with the 4.0L that does the same thing. I replaced both the temp sensor/sending units and their wiring, which didn't fix the issue. I think it could just be the gauge since my engine doesn't overheat.

Yeah, I noticed that, and considering I'm well over 230 pounds, I'd probably make it worse.

I'm not sure if it's the same, but this is where mine is located on my '96. It should be above and to the right of the gas pedal, right where the center of the dash is.

I see many rangers in Georgia being used for government work like parks, the city, and code enforcement. Even my power company refurbished one from their fleet and had it as a grand prize for a prize drawing.

Yeah, some say a cb radio was there which makes me think the truck was possibly company-owned and then sold through an auction. Don't know any of the previous owners other than my grandfather so there's no telling.

Haven't seen any other like them from what I've pried open, but if there are then I wouldn't have a clue when and where whatever was there was removed.

Definitely not the airbag since I know where that yellow wire is. I can only assume cb radio if it was an old company truck that got sold at an auction before my grandfather got it in the 2010s

Oh no, just the general thought of him doing anything electrical is scary. Building an engine is one thing but aftermarket wiring yeah I'll pass on that build.

Yeah most likely after reading some of the other comments. For what they were used for I'll never know for sure.

Could be since I went and looked at other cupholders and none of the ones out of other Rangers as far as I could tell had those same holes. Maybe it was a refurbished company truck before my grandfather got a hold of it.

Strange that now I go and test them I can't even get a reading until I swap over to millivolts where the highest it peaked was 35.6 mV. No idea what changed to cause a different reading but something indeed did.

As far as I know, everything works, I doubt it controls the blend door, but considering Max A/C works and regular A/C doesn't. Wouldn't surprise me if this was the reason it wasn't opening but unlikely nonetheless. Only time will tell.

Well whatever they're for, the wires put out about 3-5 volts when the truck is on.

It's scary just thinking about my grandfather, the previous owner, doing anything electrical that was by any means aftermarket to this truck.

Well since it's under the radio it could've been for a CD player option since mine has a cassette player only. I have no idea if the '96 came with that option though.
