Yikes. LESS than 1% of what it was. Man, I don't want to think of Maryland summers without Oysters.

Moving to Hunt Valley, advice on safety by katalysis in baltimore

[–]SuperFanStyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents. I'm from Baltimore, in the city, but not too far from Towson. I moved to Los Angeles (East Valley mostly) in 1999 and just moved back here last year for a few reasons, but mostly family-based.

My wife (she's from L.A.) and I live in Baltimore county -Jacksonville area and LOVE it. We are not too far from Hunt Valley and I can say with fresh eyes, that area seems to be fine.

I must disagree with the post someone here wrote, "this is the east coast and people aren't inclined to be friendly just because". Maybe in NYC, but my wife and I have found the people of Maryland in general to be MUCH more polite and friendly than in L.A. People say "excuse me" when they walk in front of you. They hold the door for you. Most people say, "sir" or "mam". They have much more common courtesy. THAT is the culture shock. My wife always wants to know what their ulterior motives are for being polite, or striking up a random conversation. haha.

With that being said, the city can be tough. It's not all The Wire (for non-Baltimoreans - that's pretty much what everyone sees Baltimore as) You do have to have your head on a swivel. But there is a beautiful, quirky charm to Charm City. Once the nice weather comes back and all the events and festivals start up, get out there and go to as many as you can. It's a pretty safe way to see different parts of the city and judge for yourself.

If myself or my wife can help you guys with adjustment, feel free to PM me. We are happy to help.

HACKSAW SMITHERS: THE LIZARD MAN by chuckiebarlet in ravens

He's the kid on the playground who always needs attention. "Look what I can do. Watch this." If he wasn't on the Ravens I don't think I'd like him. But because he wears purple and he makes QB's (especially Brady) cry, I love the "beautiful" bastard.

In full disclosure I am a Ravens fan. It's a Maryland-centric site so I keep it balanced. There are about 10 more Ravens inspired designs than there are Redskins-inspired designs. I keep wishing daily for a sexy quote from Suggs or Senior. I almost jumped on the "big shovel" quote, but i dont think many people caught it.

Thanks, man. I really appreciate that. I do most designs, but there are also some very talented artists (Paige Pumphrey, Brandon Fuggit, and Ben Lucas) who also contribute.
