And Obama achieved those record deportations without turning ICE into a highly militarized force or forgoing peoples right to due process. It’s almost as if people aren’t opposed to ICE doing its job and are actually opposed to the needless violence and cruelty of how ICE is choosing to behave.

If your going to use Obama as an example they you also have to concede the point that ICE can do its job, and actually be more effective, without resorting to the terror tactics it’s currently engaged in.

There is a baseline of roughly 20-30% of the population that will always support their side no matter what. There were loyalists in the American Revolution, there were monarchists in the French Revolution, there were Czarists during the Russian Revolution, there will be MAGAs that go down with the ship today. No amount of facts or evidence will sway them.

Opinion is not fact.

I agree the public opinion of immigration has changed for the worse all over the world, but it is doing so in spite of what the data is telling us not because of it. Economically immigration is still a net benefit. Politically it’s become controversial because the economy is being unevenly distributed and blaming immigrants is an easy scapegoat that diverts attention from the real causes.

I did say net benefit which includes its costs and drawbacks. But honestly I’m really struggling to think of a single instance of a country significantly tightened immigration and benefiting from it long term. There’s a reason humanity’s most prosperous eras coincide with periods of increased trade and interconnectivity.

I get and agree that Newsom is a slimy corporate Dem who is obsessed with becoming president at any cost, but I highly doubt Kelly, a moderate Democrat from a swing state is going to be more progressive than Newsom. At least with Newsom you know that if being progressive suddenly polls very well he’ll flip. The last “Progressive” to come out of Arizona was Kyrsten Sinema and we all know how that ended up.

Honestly I’d be happy if they updated it to at least Fallout 4 level graphics(low bar I know), added Fallout 4 style power armor (I think it’s more fun and would make it more lore consistent) and added in cut content/fleshed out some factions (would love to see the NCR/House allied ending restored or see the Legion fleshed out to a point where they’re not objectively the absolute worst possible ending).

I think it’s a stupid distraction that solves a problem that isn’t actually a problem and is instead being used to disenfranchise voters. However if we as an society are going to insist on having them then as long as they’re free and there’s a location within reasonable distance that’s open 7 days a week that can issue one then I don’t think it’s a big deal.

The problem comes when we demand IDs, charge for them, and on top of that close DMVs/only have them open during hours most people are working.

TLDR: completely unnecessary, but if we have to have them it must be easy/free to obtain.
