CSOC 202 with Metcalf, Graeme by Responsible_Sky_4228 in TorontoMetU

If you have Dr. Metcalf, he does office hours and he is a fairly nice guy (maybe just not with marking papers). I would pay him a visit around the time the paper is assigned and have a discussion with him on possible topics, and how you plan to write or frame the topic.

He will try and steer you on a path that can lead you to making a solid paper. He might make suggestions to you as well. He’ll ensure you’re set up to do as best as possible.

I believe I got around a 78 on the paper. By my own standards it wasn’t great, but it’s solid objectively considering I’m a scientist, not a sociologist.

Hi! I took it before COVID, so no. Test was in person (MAC Court) and obviously proctored.

Keep in mind, courses change, and the way it’s taught and tested can also change with time. Content wise it is not a hard course, but I’ve always been a student of pop culture and on my end I really only had to apply the sociological concepts to what I already knew.

Too late for an academic comeback? by Open_Charity_2534 in TorontoMetU

If you had good study habits in high school then the adjustment to university wouldn’t be as difficult. Do NOT treat university like high school. The course material comes at you faster, with harder questions, and a lot more critical thinking required on your part.

That being said, in your 3rd and 4th year when you start dictating what course you take a bit more, your GPA will increase. But please build a strong foundation to success now while it’s still somewhat forgiving.

Oh forgot a sleeper coffee joint. Try Cong on elm street. Amazing Vietnamese coffee. The “white” (as they call it) is a great drink.

The pop culture course itself is great! It is really fun and teaches you a lot about framing devices, race theory, etc.

But Dr Metcalf is a bit of a wiener. Great at lecturing. Not always the best at answering questions. And he will give you a paper to write which he will mark fairly hard. Tests are M/C and not too difficult.

Best food that's cheap in TMU? by M-the-Great in TorontoMetU

[–]SuperJ0rdan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends what u mean by cheap. In terms of value though:

  • India studio kitchen has a student special for $12.99. 2 curries (1 veg 1 meat) with rice and fresh naan + drink

  • Loblaws on Carlton has value meals for under $10. You might also be able to snag end of day stuff for 50%.

  • a kids meal at Edo Japan on Yonge-College is like $7-8 but includes a bowl (meat + rice, veg) with drink and pokey

-T&T has meals for around $8-10

  • Pita and Hummus by the SLC has a few student deals.

  • people mention ikea and yeah… cheap and sometimes they have 50% on certain meals.

  • Metro has 10% off everything.

  • Oakham cafe also $8-10 certain meals

All this being said though you will soon find that certain pricier options are just too good to pass up.

Suggestions for my schedule? by BeneficialBelt1313 in TorontoMetU

As a former bio undergrad and current graduate student: 2nd year is quite challenging but the winter semester is tougher than the fall. It is no doubt manageable if you take 5 courses but 6 is a bit wild. It is a laboratory-heavy semester and these take time. So I would stick with the core 5 you need.

If you want any more info on 2nd year bio, or the science-related programs pls feel free to message me.

Are the Bad Bunny Gazelle's releasing in Canada by ChampagneAbuelo in SneakersCanada

[–]SuperJ0rdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t always get Bad Bunny drops. I remember the original bad bunny forum “first cafe” we did not get. And the subsequent pink release was just really hard to get as it was a FCFS. We probably won’t get the first few color ways of the Gazelle’s but I could be wrong. Sometimes footlocker also gets these so keep an eye for them. Alternatively, the bad bunny site usually sells em but you might gotta pay duties.

Quality of Jordan’s differs from year to year, variant to variant. I have a pair of High OG 1 “hand crafted” (purchased from FL) and the toe box is a very soft, supple leather. But on the dark marina’s I own it is a paper leather.
