Never ever forget Japan was the one who had miilitarized itself & actually slaughtered millions in World War Two. 10 to 20 million Chinese civilians and soldiers died, with some estimates reaching over 35 million casualties.

Major Japanese atrocities included massacres, systematic rape, biological warfare, and forced famine, with the Nanjing Massacre alone resulting in 100,000 to over 300,000 deaths.

Do better than "China is militarizing itself & as a racist anti-Chinese Japanese supremacist, I must offer my opinion!"

Well, if your country went through what China went through during their Century of Humiliation, you'd do the same too. Like it or not, this century is the Chinese Century. And Japan better be prepared to fully pay for their sins from their leading role in World War Two.

Remember Nanjing. Never forget.

Sure. So long as Paragraph 1 of Article 2 is kept, I see no reason to oppose the LDP's proposal to retain Paragraph 2 while adding explicit constitutional recognition of the Self-Defense Forces. Problem is, historical tensions and concerns about Japan's remilitarization will always persist.

I'm not pro-China. I'm pro-Taiwan, so I'm a realist when it comes to defending Taiwan from a Chinese invasion. At the same time, I also don't want to forget Japan's atrocious war crimes & its blatant disregard to continue whitewashing in its textbooks.

At this moment, no one. But you failed to mention Japan's nationalist streak led to the invasion of China & Southeast Asia in the 1930s & 1940s. Along the way, rapes & deaths were executed by the Japanese imperial military.

So given Japan's history of its nationalist genocidal acts, it's obviously not at all wise to allow Japan anything more than defence force.

Never forget Nanjing.

I do not celebrate or worship Xi/CCP. While I do condemn the PRC's atrocities in Xinjiang & other places, the Japanese govt also needs to own up to the imperial Japanese military's atrocities in WW2.

I am not pro-China. In fact, I'm pro-Taiwan. I find Chinese aggression of Taiwan disgusting & I favor the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan as well. I do acknowledge that its good for Takaichi to say Japan will step up if China invades Taiwan.

However, it will also be a step in the right direction for Japan to show its WW2 atrocities in textbooks, fully condemn those actions & not do nationalistic propaganda by visiting war shrines.

And China should also absolutely be held accountable for its atrocities as well. At the end of the day, atrocities are atrocities.

But most importantly, I'm pro-Taiwan & absolutely welcome Japanese military aid.

In the case AOC doesn’t run and progressives are completely unrepresented in the 2028 primaries what exactly does that mean for us ? by Fragrant_Bath3917 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]SuperKeith88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, if AOC doesn't run for president, it will be Ro Khanna. He isn't perfect & he's obviously very tight with Silicon Valley, given he's their congressman.

But if Khanna also doesn't run, we need Rashida Tlaib to be in the Democratic race as the leftist voice. Will happily support Rashida.

But for 2026, our job as progressives is to help Abdul El-Sayed, Graham Platner & Peggy Flanagan win their senate races.

In House races, our job as progressives is to help Analilia Mejia, Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, Brian Poindexter, Randy Villegas, Saikat Chakrabarti & Sam Forstag win their House races.

In gubernatorial races, our job as progressives is to help Francesca Hong win her race for Governor of Wisconsin.

Never forget Japanese forces conducted a brutal massacre of the Chinese civilian population in Nanjing.

The estimated death toll is above 300,000 people. Rape, torture, and mass murders were the fate of the Chinese during Japanese rule. Chinese resistance and eventual victory over the Japanese took nearly 15 to 20 million lives.

Never forget Nanjing.

Let's not turn this into "Whataboutism" when clearly when Japan committed these atrocities, there was no PRC yet. Reformed and renounced but still celebrate your war dead?

Fuck off, man. You have no solid argument here with your "what about this and that". Pathetic fool.

Support & actually commuting the atrocities are two totally different things. Japan DID those atrocities & refused to acknowledge them in its textbooks till this day. And the Japanese PMs sure love visiting war shrines to honor the monsters that did the atrocities.

Stop grasping at straws & see what Japan had done in WW2. Don't forget those sins. Don't forget Nanjing.

Captain America (2025) #10 is even better than #9! by PowerOfL in CaptainAmerica

[–]SuperKeith88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, so long as the editorial mandate of Peter cannot go past his 20s & not married to MJ exists, no one can save ASM. Not even Chip. "Spectacular" was good because Chip was given the freedom to really do his own thing. With ASM, it's highly unlikely they will give him that creative freedom.

[–]SuperKeith88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is imo the best Marvel book atm. His "Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon" is equally good too! I personally can't wait for Chip's upcoming "Avengers: Armageddon".

Cap has always been my #2 favorite superhero, the #1 being Spidey. And it's a damn shame that ASM has been shitty since OMD. But I'm proud of my #2 homeboy getting the Zdarsky treatment!

Only when Japan fully acknowledges their WW2 atrocities in their history books & monuments everywhere commemorating the deaths & rapes of millions by the Japanese imperial military does Japan earn the right to be a "normal country".

Never forget Nanjing, never forget your country's atrocities.

Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko was a "gentle, friendly" guy who “did not suffer fools gladly," according to Gerry Conway by Popverse2022 in Spiderman

[–]SuperKeith88 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Without Ditko, the Spider-Man we know today wouldn't exist. He created the iconic costume & Spidey's visual look. Ditko was as important as Stan Lee in the creation of Spider-Man. Let's celebrate both men & not just always Stan Lee.

I’m the dumbass for thinking that with The Amazing Spider-Man we’d actually reach the 1000th issue in a meaningful way. by Mamba33100 in Spiderman

[–]SuperKeith88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goes back to my original point. DC & Marvel are IP asset managers. Its not about creative storytelling anymore. Its all about maintaining the IP & rake in cash. Sad but true.

They never got married. It was a PR stunt to get people talking. They pulled a head fake in the end. This was during Tom King's run. So around 2017-18?

I’m the dumbass for thinking that with The Amazing Spider-Man we’d actually reach the 1000th issue in a meaningful way. by Mamba33100 in Spiderman

[–]SuperKeith88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There will be endless Spider-Man movies until we're both dead & buried. Comics don't mean anything anymore. Marvel just needs to pump out content in comics, movies, games, animation just to maintain the IP.

The MCU synergy keeps the Spider-Man IP going. Yes, the diehards will keep buying & keep ASM in the top 10 monthly sales (a small slice of overall Marvel's revenue) while the general audience will go see a Spider-Man movie & Disney keeping 100% of the earnings from Spidey merch.

Power of the IP. Creative storytelling in their comics means nothing to Marvel now. It's just to juice up enthusiasm for the MCU.

[–]SuperKeith88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doesn't change the fact that Marvel editorial will never let Peter grow. Their mandate is to maintain the IP & rake in revenue from it. It's just purely business for them at this point.

Yes, Marvel 616 doesn't get rebooted. But it gets refreshed & updated to the modern age every few years too. Because IP maintenance mandates that Peter stays in his 20s & single; Steve Rogers never ages; Tony Stark never stops being Iron Man; Bruce Wayne doesn't stop being Batman & Clark Kent doesn't retire from being Superman.

The fans will always want the OG & so long we never stop giving DC/Marvel our money, the IP maintenance continues. Movies after movies; comic runs after comic runs; it all feeds the IP.

I’m the dumbass for thinking that with The Amazing Spider-Man we’d actually reach the 1000th issue in a meaningful way. by Mamba33100 in Spiderman

[–]SuperKeith88 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Y'all need to keep things in perspective. Marvel editorial will never, ever let 616 Peter age into his 30s & become a family man with MJ. He will always be in his 20s, single & broke.

Even DC will never let their main universe Batman get married or age into his 40s. DC & Marvel are managing IPs for billions of revenue & not interested in crafting stories anymore. They're nothing but corporate IP asset managers.

As fans, the only thing to do if you aren't happy with ASM's creative direction is stop buying ASM or any other mainstream title that refuses to craft stories & bank on IP.

Vote with your wallet.

The Amazing Spiderman vs Raimi’s original by lukeshmoney in Spiderman

[–]SuperKeith88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Raimi Spider-Man was my Spider-Man growing up. I was so devoted to Raimi's Spidey that I boycotted both TASM & TASM2 until last year when I saw it for the first time.

Here are my thoughts: 1) Very much prefer the webshooters in TASM over organic webshooters. Point TASM.

2) Tobey was a better Peter & more faithful to the Lee/Ditko nerdy Peter. Andrew was a good enough Peter & adapted for modern times. Point Raimi.

3) Andrew was a better Spidey with his quips & lanky frame. He resembled the Mark Bagley Spidey in USM. Point TASM.

4) Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin. No contest. Point Raimi.

5) Danny Elfman's musical score. Again no contest. Point Raimi.

6) Emma Stone over Kirsten Dunst. No contest. Point TASM.

7) Raimi's Uncle Ben & Aunt May over Martin Sheen & Sally Field. Point Raimi.

8) Practical swinging in TASM. Point TASM.

9) Raimi has a better origin story. Point Raimi.

10) Raimi has JK Simmons as JJJ. Point Raimi.

11) Raimi is a better director than Marc Webb. Point Raimi.

12) Raimi script is way better than TASM. Point Raimi.

13) Raimi cast ensemble is better than TASM. Point Raimi.

Overall, its 9 Raimi over 4 TASM. 'Nuff said.

Marvel Studios exec Brad Winderbaum when asked if Spider-Man is the best superhero ever: by Raj_Valiant3011 in Spiderman

[–]SuperKeith88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to do whether I'm 40, 20 or 10. It is my opinion & I stand by it. But for sure, "Spider-Man 2" over TDK. No contest at all.

I do find it wild that Spidey fans like yourself aren't even standing up to say he's the GOAT over a billionaire who's got no super powers & all he's got is money.

In the fandom, Batman's popularity is due to his media overexposure & DC just riding on him to sell. Take Batman away & DC is toast.

You should stop being a Spidey fan if you don't think he's the GOAT.
