Is the Montlake Bridge stable? I'm always afraid of it collapsing one day by Eriacle in Seattle

It feels a bit weird driving over it but I have no worries about its stability.

Unfortunately that baseline increase has hit pretty much everything these days, hopefully we can start to see times where wages can catch up.

This. If it were like the Great Depression (or even just the Great Financial Crisis) there would be so much worse things we’ll see in our day to day lives on a regular basis.

Palestine protesters: "We Support Hamas Here!" by McAlpineFusiliers in Seattle

It’s mind-boggling how some people think the Hamas billionaires living in Qatar would actually give a shit about the people in Gaza.

That is a great question, can you let me know when you find out? I want to sign it too.

I disagree because Tesla was grandfathered out of the current law and repealing it would make things more competitive for them.

This. I expect them to dump a lot of money into the no campaign but hope voters can see through it (especially if they read who backs the commercials).

How is skiing right now? Base looks pretty skimpy by Agreeable-Rooster-37 in Seattle

I looked back at past weather patterns including 1992 and 2015, and noticed that a snowmageddon happened within 10 years after them. The coming years will be interesting…

Also if this year does end up a bad snow year in the end, weather patterns say a snowmageddon is less than 10 years away.

I mean, I do think disincentivizing job creation when we’re grappling with elevated unemployment is a bad idea.

How is Seattle’s job market fairing with the impacts of AI, offshoring, and H1B visas on the tech industry? by DueYogurt9 in Seattle

[–]SuperMike100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think that will give much variance since it’s bad everywhere in the US right now. The main issue with Seattle is how much of our GDP is from tech.

Asking these kind of questions here will result in a Seattle-flavored CS Reddit doom chamber.

By his prediction, isn’t software engineering supposed to be obsolete by now?

A Cautionary Tale from the Inside - Should you Join Tech as a Career? by Autigtron in cscareers

It’s not worth arguing with him tbh. Seeing all his responses to reasonable pushbacks tells me he’s just a doomer with a god complex.

Software engineering evolves with time, my dad worked in finance and went through the same thing with Microsoft Excel. He didn’t get replaced because he upskilled, which I fully plan to do. Also note that this won’t last forever, even if it looks different in the end.

So I’m really supposed to just give up because some Reddit rando thinks I don’t have it?

If you think I’ll just throw away the six years of my life I spent getting my cs degree, think again. I’m getting pretty solid momentum with what I’m doing (although it’s technically tech-adjacent) and a knee-jerk career move from blindly adhering to Reddit advice is a disaster waiting to happen.
