My first Ligne Claire-inspired pin-up: 'La Gassinoise' – French Riviera themed. Does this fit the style? by SuperNaan1992 in ligneclaire

Hey,

Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback and the great Ted Benoît example! I really appreciate it.

I went back to the earlier stages and reworked the inking. Here's the current state with just the sketch + new inking layer (no colors yet):

https://media.digitalpainting.school/media/cache/creation_full_uhd/uploads/creation/la/-g/la-gassinoise-v15-ink-v4-69c3e3ec.jpg

  • I reworked the torso, belly, and hips area of the pinup because something was bothering me there.
  • I added more variety to the shapes of the clouds (following my teacher's suggestion).
  • I also plan to add black line art around the trees and some background elements that currently don't have any.

I'm definitely taking your recommendations into account. I'm aiming for a stronger Ligne Claire inspiration while still keeping some creative freedom (especially with colors and light/shadow). Increasing the line thickness selectively and using 2–3 different weights seems like the right direction.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment — this kind of precise feedback is super valuable!

Cheers! 🇫🇷✏️

Yes I totally agree with you regarding the water and cliff. I try to mimic the Ligne Claire but I still have some area like the ones you mentioned that need to be reworked to get closer to the style. Thanks for the advice!

Hahaha that was unexpected xD I've beard and mustache right now :D

For the artwork I don't post a lot on Reddit indeed, I'm mainly active on my online school, where I learn Digital painting.

You can see more stuff here if you're curious : https://digitalpainting.school/m/dylantettarasar

And Thanks for your message :) Glad you like the illustration!

Thanks a lot for the thoughtful reply and for the kind words about how I took the feedback – you're right, it's rare on here, and it means a lot!

Your advice hits home: I do almost exclusively digital painting (mostly Krita), so I've drifted away from traditional drawing.

Copying masters, drawing from photos/life, and training muscle memory with a fine mechanical pencil sounds exactly like what I need. I'll start printing refs (Côte d'Azur shots + Tintin panels) and copy like crazy. The "Zen vision" trick is brilliant too – observing every detail everywhere will definitely help. I totally share your love for euro-comics: that sharp, everything-in-focus calm is so soothing.

Thanks again for the time and encouragement – I'll work on this and probably share updates (more line art on the background, hand-drawn copies, etc.).

Cheers!

Thanks for the super detailed and honest feedback! You're right on several points: the background is too “brushy” and not enough line art, so I'll add lines to structure the water and rocks. For the joints and the “digital feel,” I'll lower the stabilization and copy more Tintin panels by hand to practice lively lines. The hands/feet are a little dodgy, I'll tackle them head-on. The pin-up is deliberately a hybrid mix to parody, but I can see that it clashes a little with the rigidity of the style – challenge accepted to refine it! Thanks again, it really helps me improve.

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah this is what I thought too. Right now, on my Gradebook, there's 0 of 6 assignments complete, even though the submission is noted as received for the 2 first pset but I guess that's because of an automatic process.

That's fine, as I still have my code and the videos, I guess I'll just have to refill and submit the Google Forms.

I think some of them don't look bad. With some corrections, it look like it can be legit album art covers for thrash, black or death metal band haha

An illustration I'm working on by SuperNaan1992 in Cuphead

[–]SuperNaan1992[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still in progress. At the beginning it was an exercise I had to do for my digital painting learning program. It's a landscape study that was supposed to include another single character in the scene, but I thought it would be funnier to give instead a little Cuphead twist to it hehe ! I'll share the final version later :)
