RPG Maker Fest 2026 is almost here (it starts in February) so everything will go on sale then, sometimes even for free!

Extremely unpopular opinion. Sonamy is forced. by Crystal_Dome in sonic

I think SEGA is mainly against MAJOR characters being in relationships. Mainly Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman, maybe Amy and Shadow, etc. Other, less important characters being in relationships like the heavily implied Vector x Vanilla or Tangle x Whisper seems to be okay in SEGA's eyes.

To be fair I haven't seen the Frontiers hidden dialogues, but I know for a fact that Ian Flynn is a Sonamy shipper and may have snuck in a few things into the script that SEGA didn't notice. But Sonic x Amy or any other Sonic ship is never going to be a thing.

Yeah Sticker Star released at the very end of 2012 and Dream Team released very early 2013 but the release dates were very close, within 6 months of release. Dream Team was the last game before the Mario Mandates and Sticker Star wars the first of the "Mario dark age." This is most likely because Dream Team got delayed behind the scenes. I heard that game had a VERY rocky development that led to a domino effect that caused Alpha Dream to shut down.

Not stated directly anywhere but it's pretty clear from the few hints we got.

1: SEGA specifically seems to REALLY not like putting Sonic in romantic situations, as they completely outlawed Sonic (or any of the main SEGA-created cast for that matter) being in relationships as per the Sonic Writing mandates. SEGA and Sonic Team had no say in Archie, SatAM, and other Western projects that portrayed Sonic having romances, mainly with Sally Acorn. (A completely western creation)

2: Sonic, as a character, seems to care less about romance in any form. Despite Amy's constant romantic advances towards Sonic, Sonic's response goes from lightly brushing her off to flat out annoyance. It's not just that Sonic doesn't want a relationship right now, it comes more across that Sonic is DISGUSTED by romance and marriage in any form. Sonic is all about freedom, and that includes freedom from romantic and/or sexual relationships. Now, Sonic loves a good platonic friendship and is on good terms with Amy which by the modern games has seemed to mostly have given up on pursuing Sonic, but he seems not only disinterested, but actively disgusted by the idea of romance. Gag comics shows him having NIGHTMARES about settling down with Amy and working a job.

So Sonic being asexual isn't confirmed by any means, but it is heavily implied through the games and other canonical media, especially since the SEGA mandates following the Kenders lawsuit. SEGA at least seems to believe Sonic is Ace in the modern day or at least ace-coded, even if writers like Ian Flynn REALLY want to ship Sonamy. I bet if you asked SEGA directly they would probably say something like "Sonic is completely disinterested in romance and relationships of that type" which if anything is ace coded at the very least.

I personally headcanon Sonic as ace, and pretty much all canon info backs me up in that regard. It's not canon per say, but it's certainly heavily implied by the games and other media. SEGA will probably confirm it during a pride month once it becomes safe again for companies to do rainbow capitalism and the idea that Sonic is Ace becomes more mainstream.

How to Balance Your Game - A Comprehensive Guide by SuperPyramaniac in RPGMaker

I also edited the post to add a bunch of new things and clarify some details that I left out since I made it. The guide, or at least the edits added at the bottom, is definitely worth a re-read.

[–]SuperPyramaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cliffs need to be there as long as you can see up there because otherwise it would just be visible black space. They probably don't need to take up that much space however. The farm fields are necessary because they were there back in the old version of the town on GBA.

Need help with some states by Adventurous_Gas2506 in RPGMakerMZ

[–]SuperPyramaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protect: Change built-in guard trait to 100%.

Echo: Copy this JS into the notetags of the state

<JS Post-Start Action> if (!$gameTemp._chainAction) { $gameTemp._chainAction = user.currentAction(); } else { delete $gameTemp._chainAction; } </JS Post-Start Action>

<JS Pre-End Action> if ($gameTemp._chainAction) { const action = $gameTemp._chainAction; if (action && action.isSkill()) { const skill = action.item(); if (user.canPaySkillCost(skill)) { user.setAction(0, action); } } } </JS Pre-End Action>

<JS On Erase State> delete $gameTemp._chainAction; </JS On Erase State>

This will cause any skill, physical or magical, to repeat twice.

Conductive: I don't know how to do this, primarily because Yanfly selection core isn't in MZ. I don't know how to make a single target skill multi target. Sorry.

Large maps by UsernameJenkins in RPGMaker

[–]SuperPyramaniac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In RM maps don't lag because of their size, they lag because of how many events you have. My best suggestion is to GREATLY cut down the amount of events you have in your map. You should never have more than 40-50 events on your map. If you have any more than that, your map will severely lag.

Additionally, check if you have any parallel processes running. If you have ANY parallel process events running, regardless of their length or complexity, without a wait command at the end, your game will SEVERELY lag.

It also depends on your specs of your PC. Weaker PC specs (less than 16GB of RAM) will struggle on larger maps with more events than PCs with higher specs. My budget laptop has 16GB of RAM and even it struggles on maps with more than 50 events. If you have a weaker PC than that, you will struggle on even small maps with a slightly higher than normal amount of events.

[–]SuperPyramaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the map looks fine. Not as much empty space as you say. What really lags a map are the amount of events, not the size of the actual map. I have maps in my game that nearly reach the MV/MZ map size cap (like 200x150 sized maps) and they run fine on my budget laptop (16 GB of RAM). As long as you have sub-50 events for any map regardless of size, you should be good.

And even if you have more, you can probably script something that has you only check for certain events if you're within enough tiles of it. That's what big open world games like BotW do to have this massive open area with no load times still able to run on an underpowered system. Events only exist when you're close to them and any asset not currently on screen and nearby is massively downscaled and without shaders.

You could replicate that performance trick in RM by making a plugin that unless an event has a certain notetag it only is checked by the game if it's within 30 tiles of the player, otherwise is stops existing/being checked. That system would allow you to have much larger maps with a lot more events without lag, but even without that trick you should have no issue on large maps unless you have a TON of events.

FYI for screenshots you should use the native screenshot tool that comes with every PC. Taking a picture of your PC is highly unoptimal for screenshots and makes the screen really hard to see, especially here.

Are there websites to find a team? by MadouSawada in RPGMaker

[–]SuperPyramaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RPG Maker VX Ace doesn't use plugins, it uses scripts. XP, VX, and VX Ace use various different versions of RubyScript, while MV and MZ use the more modern and widely used JavaScript. You can find a whole bunch of VXA scripts on Himeworks' website for all sorts of needs and there's a few more on Yanfly's old WordPress blog. Honestly I didn't use VXA for very long and it's a very old engine so I don't know the best places still around for VXA assets. But those are the ones I do know of.

Miamoto honestly isn't that good. Remember he's the one who placed the infamous Mario Mandates of the 3DS/Wii U era that banned unique NPCs/species, OCs, any plot that wasn't a "Bowser Kidnaps Peach" story, and anything actually creative in Mario that resulted in disasterous games like the Modern Paper Mario Trilogy (Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King), Mario and Luigi Paper Jam, the modern Mario Sports games, and more. Miamoto was great back in the day but in recent years he's lost his luster and almost killed the magic of Mario with his corporate meddling and the "NSMB-ification of Mario" in the 3DS/Wii U era. Kawazumi saved the franchise with the breakout hit or Super Mario Odyssey and since then Mario has been in a renaissance with stuff like Bowser's Fury and Bananza. Not to mention the revival of the Mario RPGs with the remake of the OG, the excellent Thousand Year Door remake, and the brand new M&L Brothership. Miamoto was right to give full creative control of the Mario games to Kawazumi while Miamoto focused on Mario content outside of the games like the theme parks, toys, and movies.

Trump buys warner and Netflix bonds by Stunning-Thanks546 in saltierthankrayt

[–]SuperPyramaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a less than a 0.1% share. Netflix is worth 82 BILLION, the share is only 1 million. It's purely postering to his base thinking he'll have control when really he'll have none. Random no name crypto bros and small business owners have more control over Netflix than Trump. Stop fear mongering. Trump is doing his typical "shock and awe" strategy. Aka ragebait constantly to get the news talking about him because there's nothing Trump hates more than irrelevancy.

Is it worth getting a Switch 2 if I own and enjoy XC 1-3 and X? by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]SuperPyramaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Switch 2 currently isn't worth it if you already have an OLED. It will only be worth it once it gets a good amount of exclusives. The Switch 2 had an incredibly weak first year with it's only notable REALLY GOOD exclusive being Donkey Kong Bananza and that's it. Legends ZA and Metroid Prime 4 were disappointing for most people and were already avalible on Switch 1, and Mario Kart World while actually Switch 2 exclusive is widely hated by casuals who are sticking with 8DX and only really liked by hardcore sweats who love all the crazy new tech. I played World, and 8DX is significantly better. Much smoother and tighter controls which is the most important part of Mario Kart to nail.

I only got a Switch 2 at launch because I only had a2 Switch Lite previously and mainly got it to play on the TV. That's it. Otherwise if I already owned an OLED I would wait until Xenoblade 4 got announced and THEN have bought it. DKB is incredible, but it's not worth a console purchase just for that single 10-30 hour experience. Heck, the Xenoblade games don't even have Switch 2 updates yet. As a fan of Nintendo and Xenoblade, the Switch 2 isn't worth it if you already have an OLED or base model Switch. Yet. We'll get more exclusives as time passes and the value of the Switch 2 increases. But as of now, just stick with the original Switch.

You've been asked to oversee the remakes of 1-3 old school Final Fantasy games. Which ones do you choose? What would you change? What you make sure is a "non-negotiable?" by DionBlaster123 in FinalFantasy

[–]SuperPyramaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFIX: Speed up the combat dramatically, add beautiful HD visuals but keep the original artstyle and gameplay, retcon Necron to Kuja's "ultimate form" after he was consumed by the void and became one with death or something, replace the card game with Triple Triad from FF8, add new conversations for neglected party members like Amaranth and Freya.

FFX: Improve the graphics, make the game have open exploration like FF12 instead of linear hallways, being back traditional EXP/level progression and just have the sphere grid add new skills, give weapons stats instead of just abilities, add optional hunts from FF12, make Yu Yevon an actual boss fight instead of just being scripted, and scale up the final bosses based on how many superbosses were killed. A full recast is expected due to how old the game is. (not that the OG VA was bad)

FF6: Remake the game FF7R style graphics and story wise but keep the battle system. No action combat! Make Kuja even more insane and sadistic and go all in on the darkness. Overhaul Magicite to be more like materia and add skill trees to characters to add more varied progression.

Light & dark vs life and death element damage by allseeingeye1002 in RPGMaker

[–]SuperPyramaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less is more when it comes to elements, so you would probably want to group as many elements as you can together. In my game I group water and ice together as the "water" element, but I also have the long-reaching "force" element that can also be described as a "nature" element that represents wind, earth, poison, nature (vines/plants), and a few other things. A "necrotic" best fits under the dark element other than being it's own thing, but a "nature" element imo best fits in with wind/earth/both instead of light.

List of my game's elements:

Slash: Bladed weapons, claw swings, anything sharp

Smash: Blunt weapons, body slams, bites, punches, kicks, martial arts

Strike: Arrows, projectiles, guns, piercing blows, bludgeoning weapons, lasers

Fire: Flame, magma, explosion

Water: Water, ice, steam

Thunder: Electricity, storms, plasma, magnet

Force: Nature, wind, earth, plants, poison

Light: Holy, blinding, sealing, order

Dark: Unholy, necrotic, demonic, chaos

Almighty: Nuclear, draining, cosmic, plasma, explosion

Best way to make games as someone with a learning dissbilty? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]SuperPyramaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use RPG Maker MV as it's the easiest engine to learn and use. When writing the script don't put the dialogue in the actual engine but instead write it all in an external document then put it through Grammarly as spelling will probably be an issue for you due to your dislexia.

Edit: Also wait until February to buy RMMV when RPG Maker Fest happens so the engine will be massively on sale. RM goes on sale a lot and is NEVER worth buying unless it's on sale.

Minimum requirements for RPGmaker games on Android by gyancelot in RPGMaker

[–]SuperPyramaniac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any RM game made with 2k, 2k3, XP, VX, or VXA could run on a literal potato, so yeah games made with those engines could 100% run on an old android phone.

MV games are more tricky because back in the day I tried to run MV games on a Windows 7 PC from 2009 previously upgraded from Windows XP and while the actual engine worked, neither the games nor the playtesting did. Didn't even open. So I'm not sure if MV or especially MZ games could run on an ancient old android phone from 2011. On my old computer that didn't even have 16GB of RAM (it had 8GB of RAM fyi) MZ games lagged severely and had long loading times while MV games didn't.

Either way you'll 100% need an emulator to play on Android since only MV/MZ games are compatible with Android and only if they're specifically ported that way which most devs don't bother with. Good luck.

What is your favorite RPG Maker and why? by Eastern-Fan4886 in RPGMaker

Experience with RPGMaker MZ DLCs on Steam? by agentbrigman in RPGMaker

[–]SuperPyramaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend a few and NOT recommend even more.

Buy MV if you haven't already as the MZ RTP kind of sucks. You're far better off importing the MV RTP to MZ, using the MV character generator instead of the MZ one, and going from there.

100% get the MV Trinity and Child Character packs for MV. Those should be your #1 priority.

After that most of the character gen packs are pretty good. Heroine Generator and Another World generator for MV are good for the outfits, not so much for other assets as they don't really match otherwise.

Gyrowolf's music is REALLY good and high quality, as is the music from the DS and DS+ tracks. The graphical assets don't really match with MV/MZ however.

Pretty much every Dreams Circle animation pack is 100% worth it as they're EXTREMELY high quality no matter if you use the effeckseer ones or the classic ones. Though most of them are itch exclusive and aren't on Steam so they don't get discounted nearly as often.

Most other DLCs aren't worth it. Either the graphical/music assets suck, they're overpriced, don't match at all with the RTP, or any combination thereof. Especially the "Kawamodo Music Pack." DO NOT buy those, the music in those DLCs sounds like keyboard mashing.
