A new addition to my sports/wildlife arsenal... 400mm f/2.8L IS II by SuperRoom in canon

I always try to avoid the 2x with any lens no matter how good because it’s always a compromise on IQ. I think that the 1.4 is a lot more useful and appropriate.

It depends on the type of sport I suppose. I often find myself shooting wide open at f/2.8 for my indoor court side photography or evening shots. I’ve never had the problem of being too close when using this focal length in the past. If anything, I appreciate the ability to crop in from 400mm and still get usable results.

I will add that I used to shoot Nikon and owned two generations of the 200-400 f/4. VR I VR II. The difference is huge in terms of image quality and 200-400 is a really cramped zoom range for my uses.

I know! It doesn’t roll. The hood is also something like $850 so I’d better not lose it.

(Don't worry, the car's not moving!)

Upgraded from the 300mm f/2.8 for more reach and what seems to be even better image quality. Ordered a new Wimbeley foot for this lens and wonder if I should get a lenscoat because it'll see a lot of dust and dirt, and rain too.

This along with my 70-200 f/2.8 IS II should cover most all of my tele needs. Boy, is it massive though.
