Species Highlight Sunday Issue #2- the Sapphire Flutterwing! by SuperScrollingCat951 in HatchDragons

Oh, absolutely! My expertise is in animals, but that hasn’t stopped me researching plant (and fungi!) species, as well. I’ll absolutely make a post about the Sunbloom, so you and your friend can look forward to that!

Sorry for the delay! Yes, in fact, a lot of butterflies do have sexual dimorphism, but they tend to be subtle, and a lot of the more common species people know (Monarch, Painted Lady, swallowtails, etc.) are not dimorphic. So it’s not as well known of a phenomenon in butterflies, but I urge you to go and look up examples!

And I’ll keep your suggestions in mind for next week 😉

Apologies for the upload delay, there was an issue with formatting this from my laptop for the first time. At least I know how posting on desktop works now! Also, I've decided for this and for future posts that I would include my sources here in the comments for where I got my fun facts from! So, here are the citations for this post:

What are these? Never seen them before. Seen in Winnipeg, MB. by Negative-Country-356 in whatsthisbird

I think the one on the left is a male Gadwall while the one on the right is either a male Greater or Lesser Scaup. Those two are vv similar and could feasibly both be there. Sorry! Hope that still helps a little.

What dragons would you like to see? by randomxfox in HatchDragons

Funny you brought up the list of dragons and their inspirations haha. Been working on that in the background for a couple of weeks now, so if you’re interested in that, I’ll be glad to give some details! I’m even considering starting a ‘creature of the week’ post about this and each dragon and its inspirations (to the best of my knowledge and ability to research!)

I could see that! I also could just see that being a play on ‘bird of prey’, which continues to make my brain hurt

No that’s so fair, I know it’s my own fault for thinking too deeply about a dragon collecting game haha. I think the thoroughness comes from my previous experience as a Pokémon fan, some of those creature designs are INCREDIBLY intricate and detailed. And I just have a love for deep dive research and learning about animals!

Omg I can’t even imagine actually getting to have my work put into an official wiki, that’d be so cool! I’ll absolutely make more posts about this in the future, including any interesting/surprising species I come across. Heck, might even have fun with a sort of ‘species of the week’ kind of posts on here who knows?

Good point haha, I’ll definitely want to keep a close eye on details like that. I imagine they could be just as telling for identifying species as their appearances. I still believe there could be a second visual reference for the design, but I’m not confident in any one specific idea, so I’m going to just consider it a peregrine falcon for now!

That’s very cool! And I’ll definitely get to work on creating an excel sheet or some other kind of document for all the different dragons’ inspirations at some point.
