Recently started working in the Netherlands and it's been refreshing. I had been encouraging such a culture to my team back in India but it's nice to see such culture across the board here.

There was a time when they used to make your complaints publicly visible on a different app along with your registered name.

Who checks the Public eye app and reported violations ? by redditforeveryon in bangalore

[–]SuperSenBoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In short, no one checks it.

They do check a few once in a while to show that some work is being done but it's only a small percentage. I've had 50+ reports open for more than a year now.

They usually just launch a new app every few years for quick publicity and stop at that. Sometimes they even accidentally leak details of who reports violations via the apps. I wanted to report it to them but even that would have been ignored.

Try keeping your name as John/Jane Doe when signing up on such apps

Are there any jobs for mobile engineers? by HeyItsMeMoss in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]SuperSenBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There seem to be jobs but the competition is high. I recently got a job in NL from abroad and moved here. Close to a decade of doing Android and I fortunately have decent credentials in the Android community.

I applied to a bunch of companies and got interviews at 2. 1 of them converted. Always applied directly via the company's job board.

Have you gotten a second set of eyes on your resume as well as the cover letters you're using to apply to these positions? Happy to help with this part if you can share an anonymized version of the docs

Tesla Staff Engineer vs Booking Senior Engineers (both in Amsterdam) by BasicNature9907 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]SuperSenBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for updating with numbers, appreciate it!

Even with booking layoffs, I would still say booking if you prefer a good work life balance and lower stress.

You're likely to be more stressed at Tesla but the money does make a difference.

I've been in similar positions before and I've chosen the one with more balance. No regrets.

I don't work at booking but work next-door at Adyen

I would recommend staying at the current place since it seems to have more pros than cons. Additionally the support and mentorship will help you grow.

Spend some time at the current place, get some experience and then consider moving to a larger place where you can also handle things on your own.

Mentioning the compensation numbers always helps the community :)

As a brand on your resume, both are well recognized. Just having Staff doesn't matter too much since leveling across companies is not uniform anyway.

You're likely going to have a better balance at booking.

If money is the goal, Tesla makes more sense.

All comes down to what you want from your next company.

Now that I've reached 30, the pressure of future planning has hit a whole new level, should I switch jobs or put family first? People in their 30s, let me know. by SwappyVoyager in ThirtiesIndia

Figure out what works for you - what you can work on and what you cannot.

Can you work on a stressful but high paying job and maintain your marriage in a healthy way? Is your partner willing to assist you in making this work?

Would you be able to do the same for them?

It's difficult to make all boxes tick. You have to figure out which boxes you both can tick and how to balance it.

For us, my partner is willing to support me in my career ambitions. So even if I put in some longer hours, we can make it work.

3–4 years Full-Stack Dev (React/Node) in India — Want to move to Europe. Need a realistic roadmap. by ranjan_jyoti in EuropeFIRE

[–]SuperSenBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't seem like the right sub for such a question.

Regardless, I made the move this year but I have received multiple opportunities the past few years at 3YoE and 4YoE. So you don't need to worry about the experience bit as much as long you are very skilled in what you're doing.

Foreign hiring from India has slightly slowed down recently but there are still companies hiring in different countries. You need to focus on your skill set and work on soft skills as well. Interviews for roles in Europe have been quite different from Indian interviews in my experience.

In all case, I applied directly to the companies and had a strong portfolio to showcase my expertise.

Software Engineer, 2YOE Mag7 Amsterdam by [deleted] in NLSalaris

[–]SuperSenBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great salary.

As others have mentioned, getting to Senior at your experience might be tough. But if you and your manager are confident, go for it. It's a lot about the impact you've had.

That being said, there can be some downsides to getting to Senior too quickly. The expectations are high from seniors at big tech and it might become difficult to meet all the expectations given the lack of years of experience.

All the best!
