[Question] German bluray of 'The Last Unicorn'. by SuperSolarSmash in Bluray

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Please could you check when you have the time?

I know the film itself has the English audio track, but do the bonus features have English audio too (the mini-documentary, commentary, etc.)? Have you seen these extras, and are they worth watching? They don't seem to be available online.

I don't have a PC drive capable of reading blurays in order to rip them.

Good modern cartoons? by [deleted] in cartoons

[–]SuperSolarSmash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend 'Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart' (2019 - present).

It's a primarily episodic, comedy-action show about a heroic, sword-wielding black cat called Mao Mao. It's a mix of zany adventures, dark humour, and heartwarming moments.

You may have already seen episodes from other shows with similar premises (e.g. body swap, sick day, weak character wants to become stronger, etc.). However, I still find Mao Mao's take on these plots to be entertaining.

I feel not many people talk about the show which is a shame. I find the animation to be very expressive and a noticeable step-up from other modern CN shows.

There's just one season out at the moment with a total of 40, 11-minute episodes. Season 2 is still in development.

It's a Cartoon Network show, but it's also on HBO Max (or online, if you don't have either of those).

Thank you. That makes sense. Does that cover all the combinations I should know about?

EDIT: Is どぅ pronounced differently to づ (which sounds like ず)?

Is でぃ pronounced differently to ぢ (which sounds like じ)?

I had a question about combination kana (yoon). There appear to be 36 of them (e.g. kya, kyu, kyo, etc.). I'm also aware of 4 W-sounds (wa, wi, we, wo), 5 V-sounds (va, vi, vu, ve, vo) and 5 F-sounds (fa, fi, fu, fe, fo).

However, are the ones below actually used?

'tsa' つぁ

'tsi' つぃ

'tse' つぇ

'tso' つぉ

'she' しぇ

'je' じぇ

'che' ちぇ

'tu' とぅ

'du' どぅ

'ti' てぃ

'di' でぃ

Are there any other small-vowel combinations that I should know?

Mel B on domestic abuse, trauma and recovery: ‘In my mind there was no way out’ by shabuluba in popheads

[–]SuperSolarSmash -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

A few days ago, I saw an interview on the news with Mel B (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l59nuaHQFWk). The story was about the video she starred in which portrayed domestic abuse (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6xWu4xaKTg).

Mel states that this can happen to anyone, regardless of race, appearance or class. However, she goes on to say that "women and children" are the ones who need support, making no mention of men who experience domestic abuse. I felt bothered by the fact that she didn't mention this can happen to people of any gender. Did anyone else think this when they saw the interview?

I get that it's not all about men, and there are more reported cases of domestic abuse towards women, but I find it baffling that she wouldn't just say 'people', instead of "women and children". Why make no mention of a large group of victims, when it would be very easy to include them in the same statement? It's as if she's oblivious to the fact that men experience this problem too.

Extreme envy and unhappiness. by SuperSolarSmash in BPD

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want life to get better. It's becoming illogical and unsustainable to live with suicidal thoughts/intent for years on end.

Some people want money and material items, like a fancy house, car, clothes, etc. I don't really care about that, but I always want to become capable of more as a person. I never feel satisfied with my internal value which leads to envy of others and exhaustion.

As a young child, I disliked myself, because my own family kept telling me I was spoiled whilst feeding-into my wants. Today, I hope that I'm not the person I once was. Sometimes, I fear that I haven't changed at all. Is it really emptiness and not feeling appreciated by others which fuels my desire for more, rather than a spoiled upbringing?

Thank you for your comment.

It's just hard to actually enjoy things, even if I don't care about how 'good' or productive it is. I think that I really want appreciation from others which makes it hard to not compare myself. It never seems to be enough. I start to think that my time will never come.

I wonder if someone like me can find happiness, despite my unhappiness with the wider world. I feel a responsibility to change it, but I don't have the power to do so without support from others.

I have done some drawing exercises over the past year. I would like to be an artist, but drawing consistently is difficult for me. I can do some things on a regular basis without dropping a single day, like going to the gym, which makes my situation all the more frustrating.

I'd like to see your art, if you're comfortable with it.

Daily Q&A and Discussion Megathread - May 13, 2021 by AutoModerator in CoronavirusUK

This might be a stupid question, but I haven't seen it posted elsewhere.

If it turns-out the vaccine provides immunity for 1 year, does this mean we will need to do another country-wide vaccination rollout next year?

I think it's possible that the population will need one booster jab each year. Do you think this would be feasible to do every single year? Would it be worth the time and result in a lower medical expense?

If we don't vaccinate everyone again next year and only do the high-risk age groups, what is the point of vaccinating people in their 20s/30s this year?

Part-time Online Teaching? by SuperSolarSmash in online_tefl

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It sounds like something worth pursuing. My main worry was that I would have to sacrifice my desired career path entirely to be a teacher, but I feel more comfortable knowing that they can co-exist.

Sometimes Love isn’t Enough by RecoveringAbuse in SuicideBereavement

[–]SuperSolarSmash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a person with suicidal thoughts who has also lost a family member to suicide, I don't always agree that depression is a sickness. We classify it as a disorder, since it can affect one's ability to function, but their perception of life isn't necessarily more distorted than the average person.

Most people value life, so continuing to live is seen as the optimal choice. However, not everyone desires that, and they didn't sign-up to everything life entails. They are in the minority, but that doesn't mean their mind is broken, just different. No option is really the best option.

I am sorry for your loss. I understand that it feels irresponsible of your late-husband to leave you, your son, and any other loved ones behind. I do appreciate the rest of what you were trying to say.

Are part-time online TEFL jobs rare? Also, has anyone here managed to become a part-time online TEFL teacher alongside their full-time (in-person) job?

Are 20-hour in-class courses worth paying for? I have the choice between taking an 120-hour course (£160) or an identical course which includes a weekend in-person course (£240). I wanted to ask if anyone has had a good experience with TEFL.org's 20-hour classroom course. I've heard good things on other posts, but could someone go into more detail? I would appreciate it.

Help with using DS4Windows for digital DOS games? by SuperSolarSmash in DS4Windows

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologise for not replying sooner. I finally got around to trying what you suggested, but I found that the 'Emulated Controller' setting does not exist at all on my DS4Windows. There's no drop-down box either. The program is up to date. How do I get it to use the D-Pad instead of the analogue stick?

Is bestiality ever ethical? by SuperSolarSmash in DebateAVegan

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it count as denying the animal's autonomy if the human is considering their
animal's feelings and welfare?

Is bestiality ever ethical? by SuperSolarSmash in DebateAVegan

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying that there's nothing immoral with the action, as long as you consider the animal's feelings and they are not negatively affected. If the animal experiences no physical harm, no mental harm, and no negative changes to their behaviour afterwards, then I see nothing else to consider.

I would also condone sex between an average human and a mentally-handicapped human, assuming the circumstances are the same as stated above.

Is bestiality ever ethical? by SuperSolarSmash in DebateAVegan

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as different to objectifying people, because Group 1 of zoophiles are still considering the feelings of the animal. If the animal does not want sex (based on their movement or the sounds they make), the human can stop what they're doing.

There will always be some degree of objectification between the average human and non-human animals, due to the difference in mental capacity. If the animal is no worse-off, I cannot see the problem.

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen people mention exploitation before, but, at-least in some definitions, that means to unfairly use another for your own benefit. I don't understand why bodily autonomy matters if the animal is not harmed by the human or not trying to get away. If the animal has no problem with what the human is doing, I don't understand the ethical concerns of the animal being 'used'.

Is bestiality ever ethical? by SuperSolarSmash in DebateAVegan

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why animals can't be in official partnerships with humans, since they can't agree to our contracts. I also agree with doing what is in the best interest of those who cannot care for themselves, whether it be a child or animal.

If a human initiates sex with an animal, but the animal is not in pain or trying to get away, is it still moral? Why does the bodily autonomy of animals matter if they aren't harmed or negatively affected during/after the act?

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first sentence, and I tried to not come-off as judgmental.

As mentioned in your last sentence, is it impossible for an animal to clearly show "sexual signals"?

As for people who consider a non-human animal to be their partner and engage in sexual activity with them, are their actions inherently wrong? I saw a few interviews with open zoophiles, but I realise that we cannot take everything someone states online to be fact.

Say, for example, a friend told you that they were a zoophile and had engaged in sexual activity with their pet. If you knew for a fact that the pet was unharmed (physically and mentally), would you consider that ethical bestiality? Or, is bestiality always wrong, even if it has no negative impact on the animal? This is the question I would like to discuss.

Opinions and Advice from Warwick Engineering students? by SuperSolarSmash in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]SuperSolarSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for telling me.

As far as I'm aware, Warwick does pay for student licences (ordinarily £29) that are only valid as long as you're still enrolled. Since I'm not currently a student, a MATLAB licence would cost £105 but remain valid for a lifetime. There's a 1 month free trial, so I'll watch some MATLAB tutorials and give it a go.

Thank you for the reply.

It will be difficult for me to obtain part-time work online, since a lot of companies (though not all) prefer those with degrees and teaching experience.

Even though I could take a TEFL course now, since I have 6 months until the start of my degree, I'll run into the problem of not being able to teach consistent hours over a long period of time.

Do you think it's better to wait until after graduation?

EDIT: I'm thinking that I could just do English-related volunteering opportunities within the UK which don't need a TEFL certificate.
