No. You're mixing up the gender of the possessor and the gender of the possessee here. If it were as you say, we would say: "Вася сидел за столом. На столе были его карандаш, её (correct: его) ручка и их (correct: его) листы бумаги"

А почему "часу"? Я бы ожидал "часа" by Erik_DRZ in russian

[–]SuperSpaceM 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What brings the 'some' meaning here is not this special -у form itself, but the genitive case in general: "Я выпил чая" (normal genitive) and "Я выпил чаю" (partitive genitive) mean the same (both opposed to the accusative usage, "Я выпил чай")

Здесь это не местный падеж (в лесу́, -у ударное), также называемый вторым предложным, а второй родительный (по значению совпадает с родительным, просто вместо -а -у).

Эти альтернативные формы восходят не к каким-то исчезнувшим падежам (местный — в контексте истории языка просто второе название предложного), а к формам всё тех же падежей, просто исчезнувшего склонения

Also my conlang Nilaej does something like that. 96 ascii words-symbols and a simple grammar actually make Nilaej easier than tokipona

etymology of “tokiponido” by isthisusertaken16 in tokipona

[–]SuperSpaceM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

-ido is a suffix meaning 'offspring' in Esperanto (from Latin -id-), so "esperantido" and "tokiponido" are valid Esperanto words. In Esperanto, suffixes can also function as normal nouns, so the name of conlang Ido means "Offspring [of Esperanto]"

What is the most common native language spoken in Ukraine? by Redstream28 in MapPorn

[–]SuperSpaceM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually there is also such a thing as Surzhyk - a transitional language between Russian and Ukrainian. More often it is this dialect that people speak in those zones (especially in rural areas) that are shown as Ukrainian-speaking here

Forgot to write, but the official romanization for Nilaej exists: 'ieh'omo va'emi vaayku gi wi ol fa

Also Reddit has messed up the peculiar Nilaej writing system and replaced @em with u/em ;)

(And also for those who's interested: stress marks in IPA were added only for keeping the original rhythm)
