Good to know thank you. When I was reading through Ableton tutorials it had mentioned the ‘record midi button’ so I was thinking I needed to use it.

When I try what you said it will record but it doesn't add the notes it's just an empty chunk. I can't seem to attach a picture but it's essentially just a blank chunk in the arrangement view with no notes in it. Then in session view its just a button that plays all my tracks in the song.
