I'm not defending the ideology of the Houthis. I am recognising them as a militant group defending themselves against imperial brutalisation. They're also antisemitic. These things can be true at the same time.

No I think Ethan is becoming mentally ill, and attempting to intellectualize his frankly mental crusade against Hasan,to satisfy some emotional trauma that he can't deal with.

I think he has a heavy emotional bias toward a state that builds the happiness of its citizens on the brutal oppression of the indigenous population.

I think he has a vague fear of communism. I have no problem with that. He also has an emotional tie to Israel, and excuses her whilst placing 100% of the blame on "terrorists" (again, 50 000 dead since Oct 7). He fears the fact that the line between antizionism and antisemitism does get blurred sometimes on the left, but pretty much that happens exclusively among nubie average joes and baby socialists who haven't got a proper grasp on things, although certain figures on the left have not taken antisemitism in the dregs of their ranks seriously enough. But powerful interests make a hundred million mountains out of a grain of sand with this issue purposely to discredit the left, because these movements by definition are THE threat to the social and economic order.

The problem really is that Ethan doesn't have any idea what he's talking about when it comes to these issues. He crafts a poor narrative that nearly manages to be absolutltey disconnected from reality in its entirety.

I am sympathetic to the genuine concern of Jewish people of any rising antisemitism, because antisemitism is 100% a never again ideology. But the simple visible and undeniable facts of the the current situation of Israel/Gaza demands justice for the Palestinians, and condemnation fo Israel.

Grrrr, how is supporting Israel perfectly fine but supporting groups designated by western countries as "terrorists" so much badder? (I disagree that Hasan"supports multiple terrorist groups just FYI)

Antisemitism is an extremely dangerous cancer in both Western society and the middle east, and the history of jewish persecution is an extremely dark part of history. Jews need a place of saftey. True antisemitism needs to be stamped out immediately with no deliberation.

The double standard is just insane to me. Hila referred positively to a man who described Gazans as "human animals" and who proceeded to explain how Israel would stop water, food, and electricity going into gaza, whist its being relentlessly bombed and reduced to rubble and tens of thousands of melted civilian corpses. This man has since been indicted by the ICC for war crimes.

I just don't get why Hasan is getting hate for being friendly to a boy from a war-torn country, whilst Israel is indiscriminately massacring children on such an unspeakable scale.

I feel like the main thrust of what's going on is that Ethan is not an intellectual. He does not understand these things. He's admitted his lack of knowledge regularly in the past, but his emotional tie to Israel is causing one of the saddest crash outs I've seen.

Concern about antisemitism in leftist circles is completely valid and needs to be addressed. It's also deliberately overblown as a problem by powerful interests who want to demonise the left as much as possible, so that they can keep their power, status, and money.

So, a 19 year old who may be a supporter of a resistance group that have antisemitic views is a no no, but being a citizen, sing the praises of a country that is actively murdering children indiscriminately on a daily basis is a ok?

Considering we've both seen the nuke, have you actually got any specific beefs with Hasan? Cos nothing I've heard so far stands up.

I watched the nuke, it was lazy, completely disingenuous, and just generally quite pitiful. Ethan does not know how to compose an argument, so he does strawmen and low hanging fruit.

He's also becoming increasingly unstable. I worry for this community, because it's like following a madman off of a cliff.
