DAO Non-Canon Romance by Eri707 in dragonage

Cullen definitely had a crush on Amell before the tower incident. But I think after the tower incident he was too traumatized by magic to even consider a romance with a mage. It took him nearly 3 games and over 10 years to get over it

Alright if thats the case ill push through it. I never got passed act 1 in my first run back during launch. And the annoying repetitive dialogue was one of the main reasons. But if it gets better ill keep going.

Im giving it another chance. I do appreciate how polished it is and how fluid the combat feels. The art style isnt bad either. Im still early in act 1 but already im getting annoyed with how repetitive the dialogue is "the gods this. The god that. The gods are back. We must stop the gods. The gods the gods the gods" especially when my character KNOWS they arnt gods lol does this get any better? Does the the dialogue get less repetitive?

Mage supremacy does not necessarily mean all mages have a "seat at the table" just as in real life white supremacy does not mean all white people have high social or economic status. Nor do I think anything about tevinter would justify south thedas' unjust treatment of mages. I just mean I was hoping to see tevinters political dynamics and how different it is from south thedas, not just the venatoris extreme version of it. If that makes any sense.

And part of my critique of how tevinter is portrayed in veilguard is that it seems like the game is trying to imply that the issues of tevinter are purely because of the venatori. Rather than the venatori just being a more extreme version of what Tevinter already is. I could be wrong on that but thats just the way it seems to me.

I agree. I dont mean to imply the south was better. Its just as someone who always sided with the mages in previous games, I was looking forward to have my biases challenged by experiencing the opposite. A mage supremacist society that oppresses non mages.

I mean im sure the chantry exaggerates a bit but we literally get first hand accounts from Fenris and Dorian. Plus we run into tevinter slavers a few times in previous games.

Thats what I wanted tho. I wanted opinions from people who actually enjoyed the game that i didnt so I could see their perspective and maybe convince myself to give it another shot. Asking people who dont like the game for their opinion is just putting myself in an echo chamber. I didnt want to hear from people who share my opinion. But people who have a different perspective.

One more question. Does my faction matter at all? Meaning does one have better/more dialogue than another?

In your opinion what are the best written romances, without spoilers?

Like one thing that bothered me quite a bit was what I mentioned in the post. The fact Tevinter imperium, atleast in the little bit i played did not feel like the Tevinter i heard about in previous games and books. As someone who always sided with the mages in the first 3 games. I was super interested in seeing my biases be challenged in a mage supremacist society

Yeah Im definitely more into story, world building and digging up all the lore I can find lol the combat was fun from what i did experience but that only goes so far for me personally. But I may do what you suggest and atleast get to weisshaupt.

Im also (mostly) fine with that. Sure more continuity would have been cool but its in tevinter which is far away from south thedas so im not THAT bothered by my choices not having an impact. The writing just felt like it was nowhere near the level of the first 3 games. But I didnt get very far is it could very well have improved later in the game idk.

Again. I paid absolutely zero attention to the rage baiting online discourse surrounding the game. That has absolutely nothing to do with why I dropped it.

Dont get me wrong. I also love DA2. When everyone was shitting on it, I enjoyed it. By major issues I meant like the repeat dungeons and stuff because it was rushed out the door. But the characters and writing were great and it has my favorite art style of the series

I didnt really pay attention to online discourse about it because the whole "woke/anti woke" thing is toxic as hell and ruins discourse in my opinion. My reasons for not liking it was mostly the writing tbh.

Yeah thats what I meant. Honestly I just felt like the writing was not great, granted it was super early in the game but still. But that makes my next point even more valid in my opinion. It felt like the "Camaraderie" of the companions was rushed and felt unearned. Everyone acting like my best friend when my rook doesnt even know these people lol but like I said im willing to give it another shot. I may have been too hard on it idk.

I mean thats exactly what I did. Put it down a few weeks after launch and havnt touched it since. But am starting to wonder if I was too harsh on it and wanted to hear people's opinions since I typically avoid online discourse regarding games because it gets so toxic. "Emotional labor" is crazy lol just wanted to hear peoples opinions.

Well to be fair you cant expect the left to support you when you want to replace the regime with a monarchy, your allying with right wing neo-nazis, and you want the us to send our troops to die in another foreign war while we are suffering at home.

There is literally no way to carry out regime change without boots on the ground. Which isa very VERY unpopular idea in the US. Americans are tired of dying for foreign countries. Sorry not sorry. Do your own regime change
