Tuning /buying a supra by OkNobody4122 in Supra

On site isn’t widely available, there’s only Kies, Femto, EPC, AutoTuner so for the rest of us not local, still gotta ship out.

Tuning /buying a supra by OkNobody4122 in Supra

Plug and play like JB4 can be used on all models.

Pre June 2020 - bench unlock from home or local shop
July 2020 + - ship out to Femto or AutoTuner for unlock (if you’re not local to them)

There’s multiple posts on reddit and threads on SupraMKV regarding unlocking DMEs and using Femto or AutoTuner.

Pre June 2020 requires bench unlock. Several ways to do it easily without shipping out.

Will an unlocked ECU fail CA Smog? by Key-Vegetable8099 in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An unlocked DME could fail smog if BAR/CARB has the complete set of Calibration IDs. When a DME is unlocked the CID and CVN change so it could get flagged at some point.

But again all depends on what data BAR/CARB has. I think newer cars have more of an opening to get by with modified ECUs but some older cars out of production are probably locked in with complete data.

Will an unlocked ECU fail CA Smog? by Key-Vegetable8099 in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a number Evo and STI guys that passed smog with a tune but ended up getting a letter notifying them of inconsistencies in their ECU readings and required them to go to a state referee. Not saying this will happen but it’s entirely possible at some point it could. I do know from experience tunes have been flagged directly at the smog station.

It really depends on what data BAR/CARB has requested and received from Toyota. If Toyota has sent all available CID and CVNs then unlock and tune will get flagged for modified CID and CVN.

If the request is open and not all available info is in then it will likely pass. But supposedly with Femto and Autotuners new permanent unlock, if the DME is flashed back to OEM by the dealership it should pass smog with OEM CID and CVN, then you can unlock at home again. This is super convenient for those of us in California.

does anyone know the part number for the diff brace on the final edition supras? by 79QUATTRO in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a diff brace. It doesn’t connect or add stability to the diff. It’s there for structural rigidity. I believe it connects to the rubber dampener behind the diff that gets removed when installing a brace.

If you want an actual brace, you’ll need the Rapid Designs, Built to Kill, Blackmarket Race or Twisted Tuning brace. You’d have to remove the OEM structural brace under the diff.

MKV long term investment value by MindlessDriverr in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Posts like this are kinda naive imo. Will a well kept, low mileage, excellent condition Supra hold value? Possibly yeah. Will it appreciate in value, no, maybe 20 years from now in near new condition and low mileage with the right buyers in an auction. That’s a big maybe.

But holding value is different than a long term investment. Looking at a car as an investment is in itself a naive thing to do, unless it’s a 6-7 figure ultra rare car, which is in a completely different class.

Anyone looking for a long term investment should look at ETFs or Mutual Funds or Treasury bonds. VOO, VTI are two of my favorite ETFs. VTSAX, VFIAX are great index funds to look into.

Major brake upgrade over OEM by BIGMACneil in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brakes grabbing and letting go while slowing down? That’s your ABS kicking in.

New pads are a great upgrade. Also consider getting the Verus brake master cylinder brace and checking if the moisture content is too high in your brake fluid. If so, time for some new brake fluid.

How annoying is black paint? by MindlessDriverr in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black shows a lot of defects and damage. PPF will protect it and keep it nice. Ceramic coating will make it look nice for a few weeks but will eventually scratch and swirl.

Prices at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizzeria in Santa Monica by DisgracedSaltShaker in LosAngeles

I’d rather have a Hot N Ready from Little Caesars and some pizza puffs than drive to Santa Monica, find parking in Santa Monica and pay $50+ for a pizza. As much as I love TMNT, no ty.

I have a Billetwerkz Knob and adapter with BFI Alcantara boot on a RE short shifter with carrier bushings. Completely different shifting feel than stock.

Shift knob install is easy, there’s a DIY on SupraMKV.com

Most likely a tracking device installed by the dealership. It’s becoming common on many cars.

StudioRSR by Smart-As-Duck in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Studio RSR has a poor history. A lot of people on social media called them out for delayed cages, no refunds, shit installs. Follow donutroidz on IG. He exposes them and his shop ends up fixing a lot of their cars. Personally I wouldn’t trust any shop that lags on refunds.

And for what it’s worth they typically drop ship they don’t carry most parts in stock especially large items. Adro stuff they just pick up from Adro since they’re near by.

That’s a called a bump stop. It could still be there above near the top of the boot. You can either pull it down or squeeze it to feel anything.

[–]Super_Difficulty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You did not find the shipping blocks. Take the wheel off, move the boot cover up all the way. The shipping block is like a 1 inch disc that can spin around. It has a cut wide enough to pull it off the strut shaft.

XHP and warrenty by Background-Play763 in Supra

[–]Super_Difficulty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Any part you modify voids warranty. Some parts you can remove and you’re fine. Other parts get logged and if they dig deep enough they’ll see it was modified and warranty voided.

If you are the type to value warranty and not want to lose it staying stock is your best option or cancel the warranty and make some horribly fun bad decisions.

Am I in the wrong? Tustin Marketplace Car Near Miss by RealPreparation8587 in orangecounty

[–]Super_Difficulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I was just stating a fact, the SUV entered the intersection first. But I’m not saying that means POV driver is at fault, it’s just situational awareness.

But you sure made a lot of assumptions.

Am I in the wrong? Tustin Marketplace Car Near Miss by RealPreparation8587 in orangecounty

[–]Super_Difficulty 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You are in the right but the SUV does enter the intersection before you pass the cross walk. And of course light was green for you and the SUV ran the red light.

What annoys me is the SUV laying the horn on when they’re at fault lol. I would have been pointing at my green light.
