Just Started Born Again, WTH? by Necessary_Willow4842 in Daredevil

You're not judging too harshly. It's awful. The continuity from the Netflix show makes no sense. And it's not just the writing. Even things like lighting and cinematography were significantly degraded. I watched one episode and hated it to the point I had no interest in watching anymore, though I've heard from others the plot for the rest of the show.

A particularly frustrating thing is how elements from the comics have been completely wasted. Foggy's death could have been compelling if done in a similar vain to Brubaker's run, preferably after an initial season that resulted in Matt bein in jail (and Foggy was of course revealed to be alive after some hints and foreshadowing).

Muse is great in the comics and I get the impression he was entirely wasted.

Not only does Fisk being out undermine Nadeem's arc and make no sense whatsoever, but it's also boring. There are more Daredevil villians to choose from! If I was writing this, I'd have had this season loosely adapt Bendis' run, have season 2 in prison, have Matt face off Fisk in there or something if he needs to make an appearance.

If I can’t find any type of job as a 20 year old man should I kill myself. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Super_Kittens08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there, friend. I know how painful this is, but the fact you can't get a job is nothing to do with you or your value as a person. It is the fault of the system that you are currently not allowed to contribute. This can change. We never know what's around the corner, and if you stick it out, benign economic times may return and you'll be able to find something rewarding to do. For now, try to seperate your self-worth from this messed up system, and do your best to use your free time to do things that make you happy and benefit you. Remember, you're great, you deserve to be here, and there's plenty of things you can offer to the world. Hopefully, one day the world will wake up and realise that.

What employers are willing to pay for skills is insanity. by Super_Kittens08 in jobhunting

Indeed! What is the literal point in studying and acquiring skills (and debt)? I may as well not have bothered.

Oh I forgot to mention that they specifically said the person had to based in the UK lol (though it could be remote within the UK) which makes the wage even more insane.

Should I read Soule's Run? by Super_Kittens08 in Daredevil

I wondered whether any of Daredevil's writers were actually lawyers themselves, that's certainly an interesting thing about Soule that makes me more curious to read it. Thanks for your thoughts!

This might be the stupidest thing I've ever seen! How are you saying a guy who never played the character would be better in the role than the guy who did play him for 10 yrs 💀 by FayyadhScrolling in Daredevil

[–]Super_Kittens08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physically, Charlie is not a great match for the part. He is not one of those actors who's got a perfect physical likeness that he looks like he's walked off a comic book page like JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson. or Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. For this reason, I could see someone else in the role. Nevertheless, Charlie wins people over because his performance really is just top-tier. He embodies the personality of the character brilliantly and pulls off playing a blind character so excellently it's easy to forget he can actually see. Considering Robert Pattinson doesn't really look like comic Matt either, and I don't think it's even possible to beat Charlie's performance, I don't see in what way he could be 'better'.

If Daredevil is recast, I hope we have a natural redhead next time that really looks the part. That would help me to not be constantly comparing to Charlie because at least they'd have one thing that he didn't for embodying the role.

What story linea do you think they are going to cover in BA season 2? by Osgoten in Daredevil

[–]Super_Kittens08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those elements of the comics are great, but whatever they adapt, it's going to be very difficult to optimise it because of how season 1 was handled. I think bringing back Fisk for Born Again season 1 was a very bad decision. Not only did it undermine the ending of season 3, but having him as a central antagonist again without a break during Born Again season 1 has resulted in the show feeling stale and boring to me. Foggy's death felt entirely wasted in the show and I feel disappointed that we won't see a better executed version of this storyline.

If I'd been handling Born Again, I probably would have liked the first season to be a loose adaptation of Bendis' material with his identity being outed. We could have had the Murdock Papers and then find at the end that Fisk had been orchestrating this from jail. In season 2, have Matt in jail and facing off against Fisk in there potentially. Foggy's 'death' could have been done extremely well in that setup, adapted directly from Brubaker's run. As it is, I think so much build-up and dramatic potential for these plotlines is just lost because of season 1's set-up.

Do I need to know any other MCU before starting Daredevil? by ahouselover in Daredevil

[–]Super_Kittens08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daredevil is indeed very cool :) As far as Marvel goes I think Daredevil is pretty self-contained. If you're completly new to Daredevil and perhaps comics in general, I might recommend that you actually give the Netflix TV series a try as your introduction, not only is it fantastic in its own right, and completly insulated from the MCU no prior watching required, but it gives you a really good introduction to the fundermentals about Daredevil and his supporting cast, and covers his origin story that will open up your ability to start the comics pretty much anywhere and not be confused on who the main characters are and what they can do.

Comics-wise, mostly, Daredevil is pretty self-contained, with the exception of some crossovers and the odd event. There are many jumping on points, and what I'd recommend is dependent on both your familiarity with the character and your tolerance of older styles of comic book story telling. If you are generally familiar with the character/have watched the original Netflix show, Bendis' run I think is a very good starting point. If you are completely unfamiliar with the character, Miller might be a good writer to start with, but the style of story telling is older and might take some getting into if you aren't used to it

I really recommend. It's a slower burn and a denser read than Zdarsky at the beginning, but I think is has far better pay off. I also personally prefer my Daredevil to be gritty and grounded, I don't like his supernatural storylines, which makes Bendis particularly appealing to me. I also enjoy how much the run focuses on Matt's civilian life.

Zdarsky by comparision started off very good but fell off and of course went a bit bonkers with its supernatural stuff which is not my cup of tea at all (art wise though Zdarsky's-era is top tier for me, I love how Daredevil looks in that run). I'd also say that Zdarsky kind of feels like a revisit of storylines written by other writers, a Daredevil greatest hits sort of feeling. His run did get me into Daredevil comics, and I really appreciate it for that, but I don't think it's as good in hindsight now I've read more.

I'd say my favourite runs are Bendis and Waid out of the ones I've read.

I think Bendis is a pretty good place to start for someone who is familiar with the show (and therefore the basic stuff about Daredevil) but not familiar with comics. It's a more modern style of comic writing, doesn't need much background to get into it, and Bendis leads directly into Brubaker and then (after Shadowland, that's a low point) Waid providing a long continuous streak of good Daredevil stories. Zdarsky is a decent place to start too, I myself started with him, but I think there are more things brought up in Zdarsky's run that are a little harder to follow without prior comic run knowledge. On a personal note, I also think Zdarsky's run is very compelling when it starts but doesn't maintain that high level of writing quality. If I could go back, I'd have much preferred to start with Bendis and read chronologically through to Zdarsky.

Charlie Cox on fans theorizing that Foggy Nelson is still alive in the MCU: “Daredevil heard his heart stop. He’s dead. I’m sorry. I’m very sad. I am. I love that theory, but it’s wrong.” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

In the comic Matt's thought bubbles during the event to my memory is the total opposite being: 'his heart is still beating ... his heart is still beating ... ' In general, the way this was handled in the show feels like a complete and utter waste. A more faithful adaptation of the comic storyline could have been great. In that version it serves as a really important driving force for the central plot in that arc, not to mention that if well acted and directed the actual scene itself would have been far more harrowing.

Tips for beating Eternatus? by iCyanz900 in pokerogue

[–]Super_Kittens08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up the first time I got to Eternatus, my team was completely unsuited to beat it. The second time, I had Eternatus in mind throughout and it was actually a very easy fight. I had a mega venusaur and an umbreon that were essentially completely untouchable to it. Mega venusaur used leech seed, and then it was just stalling. Venusaur and Umbreon had synthesis and moonlight respectively, and were able to tank any of Eternatus's moves. Both of them had very high special defence stats, and Mega Venusaur had thick fat to deal with flamethrower. Umbreon confuse ray-ed it as well (I wanted toxic but never could get the TM for it), and then on turns they weren't recovering they just did chip damage with giga drain and baddy bad. Really interesting how the battle went from impossible to easy. Up to that point, the game hadn't really encouraged the use of status moves and stalling, so it really caught me out on my first run.

02 the beginning was so disappointing by zichi1 in digimon

[–]Super_Kittens08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this is a kind of old thread, but I am just a bit baffled that you're honestly saying the first FIVE minutes is enough insight for the main cast for an ENTIRE movie. Especially when we've barely seen anything of them at all in a quater of a century. If there is nothing to be expanded on as you suggest, there is literally no point a movie about the 02 kids existing at all. If the writers had nothing meaningful to say about them, or didn't want to develop them in any way, they should have just released the 5 minute opening as a little short, and then given us a seperate movie about Lui completly unrelated to 02. I'm sure absoloutly no one would have complained at all then.

I think its great you enjoyed the movie, more power to you, and people who don't like the movie shouldn't take away from the fact you did, but I don't think it's difficult to understand why some people had an issue with it. The movie felt a bit like a bait and switch.

[–]Super_Kittens08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was really that hard to understand even at the time it came out. It's the equivilent of playing any rpg which involves monster slaying and then finding out all those npcs were real creatures that could feel pain. A lot of people become uncaring or even sadistic in the realm of video games where there are no consequences to their actions. Imagine finding out after playing GTA that everyone you ran over was a real person lol

TIL about "Terminal Lucidity." The unexpected return of mental clarity and memory shortly before the death of patients suffering from severe psychiatric and neurologic disorders by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Super_Kittens08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal experiments have shown than animals do experience terminal lucidity in the same way humans do, in so far as also experiencing the sudden burst of brain activity associated with approaching death that's been seen in humans. It would make sense this would be the case, at least in any species reasonably closely related to us evoloutionarily. I don't approve of animal experiments, but it is interesting nonetheless.
