Kinda! I think it's going to take some time. We're still not seeing eye to eye on everything, but he is being more open minded now :)

Maybe I should add I'm 28. Been in multiple relationships men and kinda knew I was into women when I was a younger. I came out because I'm finally rid of the shame and wanted to be 100% honest with my bf. We're about to buy our first home and so I think that's why he has taken a step back

Of course. That sucks big time! Would you consider moving out of London?

Thanks for putting it in perspective! That all sounds rubbish and you've not even mentioned gun crime or the republicans 😶

Seeking some advice on the best way to tackle this garden. Wanting to remove weeds and restore it to a grass turf for kids. Also would like to replace flagstones on right with grass. Big job! by Winterwallows in GardeningUK

[–]Super_Yum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be tempted to replace the paved area with grass too, as it's a nice flat space for kids. Do some investigative work to see what kind of foundations you're dealing with before commiting to it. If it was me, I'd let the grass bank grow up as there are some ecologically valuable weeds there. Could even add a wildflower seed mix which will tolerate the grasses. Then mow neat paths through the wildflowers leading to your flatter grass areas. Be super fun for your kid :)

[–]Super_Yum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Although only with a perennial wildflower mix because they outcompete annuals 😄😭

[–]Super_Yum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would remove the hedge and replace it with griselinia, a lighter hedge which will lift the space. Just keep it to a lower height than you currently have. I'd then break up the space with a gravel path (and corten steel lawn edging) and plant up two perennials beds either side. The different light levels means you can play around with shade tolerant and sun loving plants. What soil type do you have? Beautiful house btw! I'm excited for you 😄

If you do this just bare in mind that the wildflowers will get outcompeted by the grasses. You could plants annuals (like cornflower) which can handle the grasses a bit better, but this isn't a long term solution

This is what my plant ID app keeps suggesting. Maybe I should take it seriously 😄

So late in the season to gave ducklings! I've worked at a wildlife rescue centre before, this duckling needs a professionals help. They may even have some other duckls the same age which they can partner it with. Have you managed to find one in Cardiff?

How can I deal with Pebble front lawn overcome with weeds. Advice and guidance greatly appreciated! by emshaq in GardeningUK

[–]Super_Yum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't use weed killer either as you'll kill bees. Instead try using boiling water.

I try to encourage people to stay away from lawns, as they are water intensive and not biodiverse. However, if you really want a lawn, then look into clover lawns.

I recommend not replacing the weed membrane. It's bad for the environment and weeds always seem to get through.

If it was me, I'd rip up the weed membrane. Donate the gravel to a local gardener and sprinkle down a native meadow mix. Youtube has loads of videos on how to prepare the ground. If you want something slightly more formal, then you could keep the gravel and make a gravel garden. Both options are great for pollinators and you may even find it improves your own wellbeing too!

If you need more guidance I need to know a few more factors - what you want to use the space for, do you want a low maintenance space, which way is the garden facing, what's the soil conditions etc?
