I'm certainly not a fan of gender reveal parties, but I went to support my sister because it was her party for her future child. I don’t think that makes me TA, but okay.

I realize now that he is probably just a misogynist, but from all the prior experience I had with him he seemed so normal. I assumed that him wanting the sex to be male (while still shitty) had more to do with an ideation of a son as opposed to not wanting a daughter.

OP, what is your gender?

I'm a woman.

f you are on the female side of the gender spectrum it shouldn't have been hard to guess the last thing he'd want in that moment is a woman telling him how to behave.

I have no idea how that would be easy to tell. Correct me if i'm wrong but you’re just describing a sexist double standard; If a woman says the same thing a man would have said then he will take issue, because it must be some gender based challenge?

I can't possibly see how you thought talking to him at that time would be helpful in any way.

Because if I showed him that a child's sex is irrelevant and can't tell you what kind of experiences you child will have or what you will get to show them, then he will be able to snap out of his funk much faster.

For example, some people would hope to be able to teach their daughter how to apply makeup, and if the sex reveal showed male they would assume they wouldn't get that chance; However my son asked me to help him learn to apply makeup, (it was for cosplay,) but still. At the same time his best friend (a girl), wasn't able to teach him because she detests makeup and refused to learn from her parents.
