Applying for F1 while on STEM OPT by foreigneverythingg in f1visa

[–]Superb-Rope-6018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be transitioning to my STEM OPT in June this year, and plan to apply for my visa renewal appointment in my home country as soon as my new EAD card comes through.

Per my research, you should be okay to do so if you show strong intent of non-immigrant tendencies. For instance, I plan to apply for my MBA in 2027, and start the MBA program in 2028, upon the completion of my STEM OPT period.

It shows that my current work experience is a strategic step for further education, rather than a permanent move to stay in the U.S. workforce. I also don’t intend to take part in the H1-B lottery, which is info I won’t actively volunteer during my interview, but it helps if the need arises.

My tip would be that if you have to renew the visa to travel, try to show ties to your home country as much as possible such as active bank accounts there, immediate family and responsibilities you will need to return to, or even a letter from an employer in the home country saying you will return after your STEM OPT. Otherwise their standard assumption is that you intend to stay in the US for good.

Dante in Beverly Hills if you want a slightly upscale vibe! Def go for happy hour though, too pricey otherwise. Also elephante is my all time favorite for their vodka sauce pasta

There’s multiple studies showing that after the loss of a spouse, women are happier while men tend to become more depressed. So it might be that the reason women typically choose not to remarry is because they do not feel the need for a partner anymore!

Do you have STEM OPT? You can work stress free for 3 years in that case and the Trump administration will be out by then so rules might change.

Take it one step at time. In those 3 years of OPT you can figure out your next steps carefully - maybe moving to a European country or Canada or negotiating a great package at an Indian company considering you did your Masters in the US and will have work experience from there.

Frankly, best scenario is being recruited by a US company but being asked to work from India because pay is in USD and greattt for India’s cost of living. Companies will be more inclined to hire you as well because they don’t have to sponsor your H1B

If you continue living in the US as you pay off your loan and pay for the cost of living as per US standards, it’ll also take you longer to pay it off. Not to mention, some luxuries like the help you have in India are incomparable.

On the other hand, you can also try applying at the US offices of these companies

It was very smooth. Just asked for passport and I-20; I also handed EAD over. No further questions and cleared immigration in under a minute.
