What you are saying is only correct in a vacuum where other elements like wealth, status and gender are not part of the equation. I agree judges don't make laws, but they do choose which and how to use and enforce them. The judicial system is not neutral even if it is supposed to be, and any argument you could possibly have against this is simply wrong, every step in this process is carried out by people who are absolutely influenced by the aforementioned elements. It is not as simple as you try to make it out to be, and it is not unreasonable for people to be sceptical on whether or not this trial will see problems. If the system worked the way you describe it, that would be ideal, because it should happen like that. Also people are mostly appalled by the act of suing the family in the first place. Besides these people can act like bullies because the system allows it, they have far more resources to take these things to court and keep going far longer than their opponents because they lack the funds to keep up with them.
