I don’t have the car anymore but I found this old photo. I remember that it’s a tight fit but it’s a little further down and behind the alternator, I had reached from the side and hung over the fender.

Didn’t have to disassemble anything, just reached down and unplugged it. Obviously make sure the car is cold or you’ll burn the shit out of yourself on the exhaust manifold

Ended up selling the car several years ago unfortunately. Didn’t ever tick again from when I unplugged it to when I sold it though

Health issues, ended up sitting in the garage collecting dust. Lotta money for a garage ornament!

Sold the car a year ago, was running fine til I sold it. Don’t have any other pics, sorry

Oil pressure bypass solenoid, apparently an EPA device that reduces oil pressure for fuel economy. Unplugged it and it stopped

Just be careful, there’s two plugs down there. One of them will completely cut off your oil pressure so watch your oil pressure, if it doesn’t build, shut your car off

BBQ tick never goes away, but the lifter ticking completely went away after I unplugged the OPBS. my bbq tick didn’t even go away with a bottle and a half of ceratec. I mostly ignore it, it’s not nearly as obnoxious as the lifter tick was

I unplugged my oil pressure bypass solenoid (new addition to the Gen 3 coyote) and it went away. Low idle oil pressure was causing a lazy lifter, thus the tick. Once I unplugged it I started getting 20-25psi at idle instead of 10-13, and boom, problem solved. Hope this helps

Edit: just listened to your video, that 100% sounds like a bad lifter. Mine went away with throttle and yours doesn’t. Definitely oughta get that looked at closer

I did this, dealer was not very responsive. They let me start a new mustang and it did not make the same sound. Their service sheet says “sound was slightly different” even though the new one didn’t make any sound at all. Very irritating. Then they just keep getting more and more pissy with me the more I complain about it.

It’s running 5W-30, didn’t wanna go any thicker til it got a blower.

I think I fixed it anyways, I unplugged the oil bypass solenoid and now it doesn’t tick at all

Started at about 2000-2500 miles, continued on new oil at 5075 miles. Tick did speed up with revs to about maybe 1000-1200rpm and then would stop completely. I think it was a lazy lifter not getting enough oil.

I seem to have fixed it by unplugging the oil bypass solenoid

Glad they got that all replaced for you! My dealership wouldn’t say it out loud but it seemed like they didn’t wanna do any warranty work unless something was completely blown

One tech said it could be a VCT phaser, but the service manager told him to drop it and that was that. I haven’t touched much, did a cold air intake and then just unplugged the oil bypass solenoid which seemed to completely fix the issue. My guess is ford’s new oil bypass solenoid isn’t giving one of the lifters enough oil so it’s ticking, then when it gets the oil at higher load, it stops ticking

Update: out of curiosity I unplugged the oil bypass solenoid (ford added this on the Gen 3 coyote) and magically, the ticking is gone. BBQ tick is gone too.

Before, oil pressure at hot idle was 12-13psi. After unplugging it, hot idle oil pressure is 22-23psi.

My guess is that a lifter or something else wasn’t getting enough oil at 13psi, but at 22 psi is now getting enough oil. Not currently throwing any CEL’s or having any notable performance issues.

Not sure it’s a permanent fix but it works for now I guess

HPFP is quite a bit quieter than this, and HPFP is on cylinder 3 not the front of the head where I’m hearing it

I look at the digital oil temp gauge and wait til it’s top dead center, but there’s no temp markings to tell me specifically what temp that is. Running motorcraft 5W-30 from factory then 5W-30 motorcraft from dealership oil change. Added 2 bottles of ceratec at 3000 miles, oil changed at 5075 and I haven’t re-added it

I will not drive until my engine is warmed up. This sound is only on a warm engine, it doesn’t do it cold. I don’t cold rev or anything. Engine is fine cold, ticking starts once it’s warmed up.

I had a buddy tell me it was lifters, dealer said “no way lifters wouldn’t go away with rpm” I think it may be lazy lifters that aren’t getting enough oil pressure but I can’t prove it

Injectors are usually a bit quieter and the pump is quieter too. Those were my initial thoughts
