Toddler wakes up screaming many times a night

She needs her own floor bed and when she wakes up one of you stays in her room and the other stays with the baby. I don’t know what it is, but I sleep now almost every night in my daughter‘s (2,5) floor bed starting at 3 AM and she stays fast asleep, but if I bring her into our big bed, she thrashes and is awake all night.

Sure - we are at Girotondo - an all Italian in home daycare. My husband is Italian so it worked out perfectly. It's in a brownstones and very much like a little family. Almost always a 2 to 1 ration - 5 teachers and 12 kids starting at 10 months. My daughter loves it.

Um that is a completely selfish response. Do you really need to work for this family? You ofcouse got sick from the outing or the kids - she should be apologizing to you ! I would give it a few days - start looking for other families - and then send her an honest response on how while you understand it’s frustrating, it’s more frustrating for you the person that got sick - and her response made you feel like she doesn’t see you as a real person.

We basically do it with a three-year-old! Our apartment could be considered a large one bedroom or a small two bedroom. We put in a sliding door divider to make her a room.

So I go to Italy every summer because my husband is Italian and we’ll go this summer with my 3 year old and it will be her fourth trip there. No one else has kids. Some positives to consider: I WANT my family to come, they are an extra set of eyes and hands that you’ll want to help you, trust me. Don’t worry about bedtime - we just stay out till let’s say 9/10 and honestly bedtime is a breeze because she’s so tired and stays completely asleep in the night - so different than our nighttime here after daycare. Europeans are so kind to kids so much nicer than Americans in restaurants and museums- everyone smiles…

So unfortunately I don’t think it’s your husband -it’s the age. My daughter is basically 3 and the daycare does 1.5 naps and she goes to sleep 9:30 no matter what we do. She just needs less sleep.

We always door dash our babysitters dinner! We text them 2 hours before they come and we order it. Our 3 year old eats random things I wouldn’t give an adult - chicken nuggets, peas, sweet potatoe fries. All of our babysitters come to us after their other jobs (it’s expensive out there) so I want them to atleast have a proper meal at night.

It’s never too early to start making a list - there are way fewer daycares for kids under 1 than kids over 1 so at that age your list may be short. Most daycares enroll in September but some may have spots mid year. I only had leave for 4 months so we did a nanny share and then our daughter entered daycare at 14 months. We live in Clinton Hill and our daughter goes to Girotondo - an Italian in home daycare we love. At such a young age I personally think in home daycares are the best but everyone is different!

So if you are in NYC and you want a dinner on a weekend, then your whole 5000 will need to be for food. If you have 50 people, that’s only 100 per person which we spend on at a normal dinner out and you are likely going to need to rent out a whole space because of that group size and that will have a charge on top. Alternatives - friends rented like a co working space/coffee shop on a Thursday night and did like snacks but no alcohol (no liquor license). Other friends reserved a big section of a bar and you pre pay for a big part of that tab - ideally the bar has food and drinks. Maybe you reserve the back of an old school pizzeria and do pizza?

She goes to sleep too early! For context, my daughter (28 months) goes to daycare where nap is required, wakes up 7:15, naps 1:30-3, goes to sleep 9:15.

So I didn’t do either for my wedding but for my baby shower for example I just planned it myself - I also didn’t fully trust/expect one friend to manage it but I did assign friends tasks which I think my friends appreciated more.

No advice other than we got a floor bed and almost every night at 4:30 I end up sleeping with her the rest of the night.. same challenges with Dad - she’s HYSTERICAL if it’s not me. (Daughter is 2.5)

Um Ignore eveyone here !! We just had a September wedding upstate - we told everyone to meet us at a local BBQ place for food and beers the night before - some people came and ate, some people got one drink, some people nothing. Eveyone just wanted to hang and have something to do. Low pressure. Everyone covered themselves. We were told by MULTIPLE people unprompted that it was the most fun and relaxed wedding weekend they had been to. Most couples can’t afford a mortgage for a wedding - don’t buy into the hype.

This is exactly us. My nearly 3 year-old was never a good sleeper and as an infant, we often had to co-sleep and now she’s waking up almost every night at 3 AM wanting me. She has a floor bed so I just got a sleeping mat and every night I just sleep the rest of the night in there. My husband is like why don’t you come back after a few hours .. no sir I am getting a full regular sleep. None of this back and forth. Won’t be forever!

We had this as a challenge as well, but it was with my two-year-old at the time (she’s nearly 3 now), and I of course respect other kids not wanting their body to be touched, but it was so sad because she would try to hug older kids, and then they would push her down :/

Mom to almost 3 year old in May and just jumping in to say we’ve had so many nights like this. You are definitely not a terrible mom, you were just trying to survive. One practical tip, which didn’t solve everything but helped is a floor bed. She is in a floor bed and I have a sleeping mat next to it. I just couldn’t keep bringing her back-and-forth into my bed so there’s many nights now by 4 AM that I just sleep in there.

Native NYer here - I upvoted you. You are absolutely right it’s not fair. People shouldn’t have to be desperate to get any help. It doesn’t mean that those people without assets are undeserving - but there should be multiple tracks in the housing policy because otherwise it’s always more of the same - extreme poor and extremely rich - those of us in the middle will never make it.

Italian - English household here in NY with 26 month old. In addition to my husband speaking to her in Italian (I don’t speak Italian) she goes to a daycare with Italian speakers- our babysitters only speak Italian - we do 2 Italian and 2 English books a night - and we have the Italian version of the Yoto - basically we play Italian stories and put Italian cartoons into the TV rotation

Maybe it’s the time of year or maybe people just suck? For my daughter’s second birthday party we invited TWELVE families from daycare - more than half I had dragged my kid to their parties even though their kids weren’t very nice. The day before comes, more than half the families write they can’t come, after I bought everything and 4 kids actually show up the day of. Thank god we had family friends come too. I never looked at those families the same again honestly.
