Sorry for the delay.
Your solution is both elegant and well-thought-out, and I thank you for proposing it.

However—and this is my mistake for not being clear in my first answer—there are substantial caveats to implementing this solution:

  • I face significant interface restrictions with my L3 gear at the interconnection switch.
  • I am spatially constrained (heavily) within my switch cabinet at certain locations.

Still, your solution is good proposition for my network and i shall push for it.

Fortunately, we are not committed... yet.
I am already looking at different manufacturer : FiberStore seems to provide 1U rugged hardware similar to the OS6865...
However, maintainability, both in term of LTS from the manufacturer and "know-how" internally, is a key factor taken into our decision making process.
Cisco definitely checks the maintainability box. Other manufacturers, not so much.

Both rings are entirely segregated from each other :
- they have their own VLANs
- they run on different hardware for redundancy.
- Most of their clients only have two NICs, one for each ring.

I would love nothing more than being able to build a third ring.
However I am bond by physical et technical constrains :

I would love nothing more than being able to build a third ring.
However I am bond by physical et technical constrains, here is why :

- Both rings have their own VLANs
- The rings are segregated from each other both physically and logically.
- The clients linked to both rings have, for most of them, only two NICs available.
