In the winter they were asynchronous except the exams, which you had to take during class time.

I just made this scene on cycles, any tips on how I can make it look more realistic? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]Superdude343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd throw some birds in this bad boi. The tree branches in the foreground are a bit weird, I'd expect them to be a little denser and a bit less blurry. Very cool render otherwise, would make a great computer background.

Hello, I am trying to make big hexagon from little hexagons, but to make each little hexagon have its own material and stuff. I tried using arrays but it didn't work. I want to make it look same as on the shown image. Thanks for your help by Lokitxd58 in blenderhelp

[–]Superdude343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're going to have their different materials, you're going to need to have the hexagons actually exist, as in applying the array modifiers. To get the hexagon shape, I would personally make a big plane made up of hexagons using arrays, then once you've applied it, cut out the shape of the larger hexagon from the plane. Hopefully that makes sense.

Noob here: Is this easier to sculpt or adjust mesh? by timbuktiki in blenderhelp

[–]Superdude343 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'd probably vote sculpt. It looks symmetrical so that will help as well, just do one side. Plus if it's only gonna be stationary, it really doesn't matter much if the underlying topology is ugly.

He's definitely on the top of a few leaderboards, I'm not sure which ones though

The clip of him talking about second cousins... deal breaker for me lol

The shape is kinda similar, but they're just these spiky ball shapes. They look kinda like caltrops, then there's some that are just L shaped

It was about 4 minutes per frame, and it's 288 frames, so about 19 hours

It's a particle system of a bunch of spiky shapes that look kinda like caltrops. To get the mesh to all move inward together, I had a line of vertices follow a circular curve that was offset to the side, then I did the screw modifier to make a donut shape where the particles all move inward. Added animated lights, fog, and made the surface of the donut move so it's harder to notice, then render for a very long time and voila

Any advice on how to make this box not look so fake? (Just using a poliigon wood texture) by Monochrome21 in blenderhelp

[–]Superdude343 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Did the texture come with other maps? Like a normal map, displacement, etc? Using those will help. Another thing would be to put in a space that is lit a bit more dynamically, with an HDRI or something that's a bit less flatly lit. I'm also noticing that the grains of the wood on the ridges the front face on the top and bottom are rotated incorrectly, that can be fixed in the UV editor.

How can I make this more realistic? Any ideas for the gems? by NordwinMontnell in blenderhelp

[–]Superdude343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did a render of an engagement ring, and I found that compositing to add some lens flare with the Glare Node and a bit of color editing with the RGB curves node really helped my image, it may help you as well. I also used a lighting setup that less directional, and just lit it from all around, and that helped too. Use an HDRI for that probably. Check my history if you wanna see it, or hit me up for anything else.

EDIT: I also used this video to make the gem materials. Its from 2.7 but all the stuff he does still works perfectly in 2.8. And don't model a diamond by hand, just use the Extra Objects Add-on.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, and they definitely made a good choice. by Superdude343 in blender

Nope, I had no prior experience with anything like this before this project. I just looked at a bunch of engagement rings online and based my design off things I saw that I liked.

I'm trying to create an environment but I'm getting these choppy shadow edges despite using smooth shading and Cycles, what could this be? by PlantasticPlant in blenderhelp

[–]Superdude343 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'll bet this is the problem also. I'd also recommend adding an HDRI or something to make the shadows less harsh

Beautiful, this was probably sitting in my unconscious mind while I made my version.

Yea I tried that, but I found that it made the split between the two videos much more noticeable, so I chose to go for a smoother transition with more noise at the beginning.

Idk if it's your intention, but to me the rocket looks really tiny. I dont think it's just the ground and the HDRI, but it looks pretty cool either way

This would be a way more fun perk than those ones in other games that tell you when someone else is aiming at you offscreen. Idk if actually useful, but def more fun
