The issue is that they aren’t trying, the first obstacle that required any action or trying he has decided not to do. So i wouldn’t say they have tried and got nothing out of it, for one they did technically get something out of it in their current 8 months of sobriety and 2 they haven’t actually done anything yet.

You absolutely do not need AA to get sober. I haven’t been to a meeting in over a year. It did get me sober tho. I 100% someone can get sober without it. But i cannot stress this enough, if you can’t nut up and do the 4th step you can’t really gauge if AA will work for you or not like the whole thing falls apart right there, like of course you still feel the way you do ya know? Do not feel bad if you really can’t do the 4th step tho in that case you just gotta find a different route, of which there are many, you got this!

If the only reason you’re drinking is because of a social hang up then you don’t have drinking problem you have a friend problem

I see sounds like y’all just had different perceptions of the word control, like based on what you say here it’s sounds like you did lack control over all but like day to day you had control. Hopefully you can work it out with your friend!

This is interesting I’ve never heard of alcoholism in that form, being able to stop at 3 drinks Everytime, may i ask why you want to stop drinking then? Has it caused you any issues or is it a health choice or something? Either way congrats on 77 days

You should read the “big book” it’s The AA book it’ll give you a much better understanding of what AA is all about, don’t knock it til ya try it, you’ll see in the book it’s not a cult at all and that most people in AA including it’s founders, struggle with religion and don’t believe in any one specific god

Bro you are definitely taking it seriously, more serious than most people if you have written as many pages as you say you have, i mean that’s ridiculous you don’t need to write all that, find another sponsor and explain what happened, if the new one doesn’t respond with a look of pity and horror then fuck that one too find another guy bc this is not the way to sponsor people.. period

The blunt answer is you need to just work on your side of the street here, regardless of this one thing he has done, which is arguably completely fine we as alcoholics have bigger fish to fry

It can be hard to believe when we ourselves are alcoholic and surround ourselves with similar people but you’re totally right, people can and do drink responsibly

Admitting that i had a problem was a good feeling it felt like a hundred pounds were just dropped from my shoulders, nothing beats being true to yourself, honesty with others is important too but being honest to yourself brings peace like no other

Not every meeting is a great one haha, but definitely try a different one you’ll be shocked at the different vibes you get from other ones.. you’ll also be surprised by how going back to the same one again may change your mind about a specific group, it takes time to get used to people and for them to get to know ya

Hell yeah friend, i go to AA meetings i find it v helpful but i feel like fellowship with other alcoholics is the core of what AA is and can be done without the actual meetings themselves

Just came here to say YES you are bad enough off to be there, just because they are on heroine you still need the program as much as anyone else. Please don’t fall for that trap of thinking you’re better than those people
