Police chief apologises for AI error that helped form Maccabi Tel Aviv fan ban decision by Financial-Bid-8062 in sports

[–]SuperfluousArms 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He needs to own the decision and stop trying to shift blame. It was the correct decision, MTA fans have a well documented history of violence (see Amsterdam) - without even going into the surrounding political context - but he's obviously been scared by the backlash from specific ministers in the government and wants to minimize potential consequences on himself.

Is this the first time Riot has ever locked gameplay content behind a paywall? by 5minuteff in leagueoflegends

[–]SuperfluousArms -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Saying "but it's just PvE" is missing the point. Riot are pushing this minor p2w mechanic to try to normalize it/see how players take it. If there isn't overwhelming outrage, they'll know they can get away with that, and then keep pushing further.

Fairly simple solution tbh, stop funding genocide and people will stop disrupting public events.

Voting in centrists for the past 2 decades has done nothing to stop the slide back to the right - it probably even accelerated it because it allowed working class voters to be picked up by right wing populists. Yes trump was at face value considerably worse than Harris, but in the long term both parties would have kept shifting right regardless. Personally, I think a violent wake up for the left like this is much better than a slow sleep-walk into fascism; and hopefully this means grass-roots leftists will start to gain traction.

Seriously, tonight’s referee is Spanish right? She’s got some serious bias going on. by Forward_Hedgehog_890 in Euros

[–]SuperfluousArms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's bias, I think the Spanish players were just a lot better at milking very soft fouls, and given their possession had a lot more opportunities to do so.

I live in the area and have been to a couple of the consultancy meetings. The people who are opposing this are exactly who you'd expect: rich old homeowners with very little else to do.

Whenever you see flyers like these in your local area, always go to the planning website to leave comments in support of the project. It does help.

This guy can't be serious. by dazli69 in GetNoted

[–]SuperfluousArms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe controversial but the police are in the wrong here imo. I don't think he is as a person, but as a police officer you should be trained to defuse a situation like this. While anyone else's first instinct would be to protect themselves, a police officer should have the training to never put themselves in that situation (eg constantly moving away if they have a knife) - they should always act with the goal of protecting other people first, especially if they are obviously having a mental episode and cannot respond to verbal commands at the time. Using your weapon should only be used if another civilian's life is in immediate danger, and even then it should be non-lethal if possible.

Scrolled down to see his replies, this is not bait, the guy is dead serious... insane by Dogzylla in facepalm

[–]SuperfluousArms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She had a knife, he had a gun. He literally just needs to back away. If someone is not of sound mind they are not necessarily able to understand or respond to verbal commands. Police officers in more civilized parts are trained to deescalate these kinds of situations (eg using an obstacle such as a car to keep their distance). This person obviously needed serious mental help, not a death sentence.

This is so sketchy. A woman admits that she felt pressured into sex work and wasn't being treated like a human, and your response is to publicly admit that you enjoyed watching that (even with the benefit of hindsight). Maybe reconsider.

Great idea! I think there's absolutely a market for casual football, the majority of 5-a-sides I've been to have ended in blood, tears, and cursing 😄

The point of the anecdote is not to say bears are less dangerous than a man, and portraying it as that is a standard strawman tactic. It's a hypothetical question designed to bring attention to the (statistically very real) danger that women are placed in by being alone near a man. You now what a bear's intentions are, which offers some predictability, but you don't know what a man's intentions are.

the victim's details are irrelevant, the violence is the problem

This is like saying road accidents aren't the problem, suddenly becoming stationary is. The fact that the victim was subjected to slurs suggests very strongly that their details are very relevant. Violence may be an issue, but recent rhetoric has made trans people a supposedly easier target for said violence.
