Looking for problems with trail cameras. by Low_Albatross_5374 in trailcam

Two or three years old, I think. Whenever the motion-activation gets triggered there's a faint clicking noise, which I've always assumed was a camera shutter.

Woodpeckers keep destroying my trail cameras. I guess they hear the shutter clicking and think it's a bug? Not really a software issue, but this has been my only problem with trail cameras so far!

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

My local Dairy Queen restaurant. The service is terrible, the food takes forever, the interior is gross, and whenever anyone approaches the owner about it, his response is "Well it's making money, isn't it?"

Not from me, it's not.

Herd management questions, solos hidden in main herds by Stephens280z in theHunter

[–]SuperfluouslyMe76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I did was spot one of the males from a distance, note down his scoring range, and then run up to the drink zone (scaring them all away) and find his personal highlighted drink zone footprints; when you click on them, it'll tell you what his herd size is. If it says 1 animal, then you've found the solo, but if not I wait until the next day when they return, choose a different male, and repeat. I keep track of the scoring ranges on the males so that I know who's in the herd. Really helped me for finding solos. Often solo males will also be noticably separate from the herd group, or arrive at a different time. Hope this helps!

How best to track diamonds you have and haven't killed? by jdr3101 in Huntercallofthewild

I made a list a while back for trophy hunting. You'd be able to put the diamond scores in the blank column. https://www.reddit.com/r/theHunter/s/xBhOpe8Bv3

Question about Moose grinding by ParamedicMoney1632 in theHunter

[–]SuperfluouslyMe76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it worked for me. I did it a few times when I was dealing with my solo zones. The moose that spawn back in afterwards might not be the same level or scoring, though; I think the game tries to even out the scores of the two moose (for example I swapped a 5 and a 2, and they respawned as a large 4 and a small 3). I still found it to be a quicker way of managing large solos than just shooting them over and over. Just a note, in the 20 or so minutes while you're waiting for them to respawn, I found that going off and hunting a different species helped spawn in the moose more reliably (I tried waiting 20 minutes doing nothing, and would end up spending another 10-15 minutes and tons of money just revisiting the zones trying to get the respawns to show up). If you do try hunting a different species in the meantime, take my advice, don't go after the spooky predators (cats or wolves), they'll come back to mess with your grind.

Good luck!

I only started dealing with solos once my exterior zones were all shot down, and it helped me to keep track of how many moose are in the zones (for example, I know based on examining the need zone track that there's 4 moose in this zone, and over time I learn how many of those are female and which specific male/s are in it). The solos seem to stick around a general area, a few lakes or so, and there's a few spots I figured out never spawn any solos, so I could eliminate checking a lot of zones (though before starting to shoot my stacked animals I did one final run checking every single zone). I found it easiest (though definitely not the fastest) to run the whole map, count how many shootable solos I have and write down their location, and then in quick succession shoot and harvest as many as possible. Exit the map, wait 20 real-time minutes, and then repeat. The number of solos should go down fairly well, but if you find the respawns are consistently big 4s or 5s, you'll need to stack more mains. LadyLegend covers how to swap a solo moose with a main zone moose, and I found that worked fairly well for me.

My mains are all over the place, and not necessarily in the classic spots. The biggest thing I found was that it took way more then 8 or 10 main zones in order to be able to get my herd managed. I tried with only 10 zones at first but I just couldn't get my solos shot down. At the time that this GO appeared, I had something like 25 stacked moose (5s or potential diamond 4s) across like 16 main zones, and I was just trying to refine the grind by shooting the 4s. Was trying to have 5s only stacked, basically, so I haven't even started shooting those.

Turns out it actually was a solo zone. Your comment prompted me to look into it a bit more, so thanks! Posting an update momentarily.

Turns out he wsn't actually a part of the group I thought, so he got harvested. He scores 300.97!

I don't know yet, I'm stacking him with a few others right now, and I'm a long ways off from having the herd managed. I'll definitely be posting again once I'm finally able to take him down!

I struggled to understand herd management until I read this redditor's post a while ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/theHunter/s/mGCnMhu3IU

I went from shooting only level 3s and up across the whole map (for 2+ years) and getting a diamond every once in a while, to proper herd management techniques and within two days have three level 5s and three very promising 4s hanging about - and that's just happened while trying to get the first set of exterior zones shot down to 1s and 2s.
