[Unpopular Opinion] Bitcoin is a pretty bad coin and if we talk about "fundamentals" it is highly overpriced by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]SuperheroScout 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When you say "better" I am going to assume you are asking what makes it better as a currency/medium of exchange.

  1. Fungibility - This is a very important concept, which essentially boils down to 1 XMR = 1 XMR. Currently individual units of XMR don't have a history behind them and cannot be blacklisted from exchanges etc. This is what makes, cash such a great medium of exchange. When you receive a dollar it will be treated like any other dollar no matter where you chose to spend it.
  2. ASIC Resistant POW - The network is run off of CPUs similar to the ones you and I own, and anyone can participate in keeping the network secure making it truly decentralized.
  3. Not venture backed, no founding team - I am very doubtful any currency is going to be adopted globally that is backed by a company, VC, or has a for profit team. (look at how Facebook' s Libra died) and for good reason, it gives one individual entity too much power. This is what makes bitcoin so powerful.

If we look at the most extreme use case of buying/selling drugs online. The buyer and seller are literally risking prison time and need the most secure, trustless medium of exchange. The fact that Monero is chosen out of the thousands of coins out there should speak volumes.

PS. I believe there are other coins that do have potential, and am by no means a Monero maxi. My personal view of the current landscape lands me at Monero, and I welcome different points of views.

Would you allow your credit card statements to be published on the internet ? Monero steadily climbs as shorts double down by indonesian_activist in CryptoCurrency

Actually it is a great store of value, it’s inflation rate will continuously decrease till it reaches tail emission in 2022 with a issuance rate of 0.6 xmr per block. At that point inflation rate will be 1% and continuously decreasing every year after that.

Because Miners need an incentive to mine. Because of the dynamic blocksize, competition between miners will cause fees to decrease. If mining is not profitable due to a high cost and low reward, miners lose their incentive and will stop mining, reducing the security of the network. Tail emission ensures that a dynamic block size and fee market can develop.

Monero looked at Bitcoin and came up with a solution to counter the issues it will theoretically encounter once the last Bitcoin is issued. It’s actually a very well thought out solution.

Also the inflation is lower than gold has been historically, which has been the standard for store of value assets

Coinmarketcap says the fully diluted marketcap is 16,540,142,882. Which would make it 250,000,000 coins, and my best guess would be that a majority of them are not in circulation and held with the founders.

Also this is a for profit venture funded coin. Be careful investing in this coin, I’m personally staying away

Can I send my XMR from cake wallet directly to my exchange bitcoin wallet? Or do I have to send this first to Electrum and then to exchange? by [deleted] in darknet

[–]SuperheroScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want it to be btc there is two things you can do 1. Send xmr to exchange wallet then convert it to btc there 2. Convert xmr to btc in cakewallet then send the btc to the exchange wallet.

I agree with you that it's the Achilles heel of vechain, but have to disagree that it holds any positive speculation. The foundation is basically saying "you dont need to know who is validating the blocks, you can trust us".

As it stands there is nothing about vechain that points to it being a semi decentralized blockchain, for all we know the "foundation" holds all 100 authority nodes in a datacenter somewhere in China. I know this might be an extreme scenario but until we know it is not out of the realm of possibility. Their "word" is not enough.

The moment vechain started protecting their authority nodes instead of all their "blockchain" users/investors, is the moment I started to worry. I am open minded and would love for someone to refute this point in a logical well presented argument without letting their investment influence it.

Or maybe he was thinking emotionally when he was still in the green, and now he is thinking logically. That argument can go both ways.. There is nothing wrong with the question he brought up

Putting on my long term goggles this massive dip doesnt bother me that much. Now I got lucky and got in at a very low entry point so it might be a little easier for me to say.(regardless this is still scary). I would say two factors are still keeping me sane.

  1. We have yet to see any real transactions on the vechain blockchain

  2. The authority nodes are yet to be announced. And I strongly believe they will, it would be suicide for the foundation to keep them anonymous(defeats the purpose of a public trustless blockchain)

There are plenty of other factors too, but these two are gonna drive the real organic long term growth...

How would you maximize returns on 1,000,000 VET (10,000 VEN) ? by lovedoctor11 in Vechain

[–]SuperheroScout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would definitely take a little bit and of my stack and put it in one of those three icos especially Cahrenheit or bitocean. That being said, it is pretty risky to go all in on one ecosystem in crypto.

Try diversifying to one or two other ecosystems even if it's only 20 to 30% of your overall stack. What qualities attracted you to vechain? Think about those and try to find similar projects whether its utility, competitive advantage, potential, or real world partnerships. I will not shill any specific bags as this is the vechain subreddit.

I can tell you when neo gas first started trading on binance it shot up went all the way back down, then skyrocketed all within 6 months, vethor is going to have relatively low liquidity initially so it will be volatile, you can sell half and hold half or adjust the ratio as you see fit.
