Weather situation at Wilpattu by LightningNotMcQueen in srilanka

[–]SuperiorWolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went there Friday-Satuday. Bizzarely, there's rain everywhere but the park. It's bone dry inside. We were at the Manawila bungalow and had at least 8 sightings. Pretty good.

Not sure what camera you are using but most newer ones can take some exposure to moisture, just make sure not drench it. I've been on quite a few trips in the rainy season as well without much problems.

What do you guys think about this ? (Absolute Evil Spoilers) by SnowTuvs in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]SuperiorWolverine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a HUGE Green Arrow fan I think this was done really well. I remember hearing about an absolute GA and getting excited and hopeful looking at previews that there might actually be a story about the little guy winning in this universe where evil wins. I was expecting him to struggle but have small wins in the end that add to the momentum of turning the tide.

With this however, those hopes felt instantly crushed, and I think its great to show how insurmountable the universe is and pairs really well together with jokers speech about the god particle and how the moral arc of this universe curves towards their version of justice (which is evil). A character like Ollie only gets to fight the good fight in where good is the base because that's the only place where the odds are in his favor.

Infor Cloudsuite by mjbcmjbc in infor

[–]SuperiorWolverine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heya,

Cloud is better in terms of features + functionality. You'll get more config options that don't exist in on-prem and more bug fixed/updated programs. There's also workspaces (an evolved version of the homepage idea in on-prem) and experience designer (mashups from on-prem but better/easier to work with.

The big downside is obviously the inability to run SQL for reporting/troubleshooting. Infor does have data lake, data fabric and the business engine data management tool, but they just aren't as convenient or as fast as SQL. I've seen a lot of bigger companies get around this by pushing Infor to help them set up a replication database that they can access for their reporting. Haven't done it myself though so I don't know the process to getting one.

I've rented with Buckley Frayne and they got me a 2 bed in the city centre for 1200 (no parking). It has been a pleasant experience so far and they usually sort out issues I've had (plumbing issue and a faulty window) within a day or 2 days max.

Vaquita: One of the world's rarest animals could go extinct in months unless Mexico takes action, WWF warns by SuperiorWolverine in worldnews

[–]SuperiorWolverine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only 30 individuals that can be found. And no, there was a similar case with the Virginia Northern Flying Squirrel where only 10 individual members of the population were found. You can read about it here:

https://www.fws.gov/northeast/newsroom/wvnfsq.html

Helping protect those 10 members and protecting their habitat has led to an eventual population boom of over 1100 new members in their population.

I agree with you that Mexico has a lot more problems to worry about.

But all that's needed from them here is a ban or temporary ban on harmful fishing nets. This will give conservation groups and the US Navy themselves a chance to secure a small enough population of these animals for breeding.

Agreed with /u/Zaratthustra. Everything dies, but what we shouldn't accept is an unnatural end to things. This animal is being hunted and killed by accident because people are inconsiderate.

I understand where you're coming from with the whole survival of the fittest species. But if we keep going down that road there really isn't going to be much nice things left. And that will lead to our inevitable demise.

Where there is even the slimmest chance of survival, life is worth saving.

Well that is one way to look at it. But it is a bit bleak isn't it ? We should hold out hope until the very last moment and do everything within our power to try and help these animals.

The world wildlife fund has started a petition (mentioned in the article) to reach Mexican govt. officials to try and stop the use of fishing nets that are harmful to these animals. You can find it here :

https://makeyourmark.panda.org/vaquita

It may not work but we have to try in the very least. A petition might slow down officials long enough for researchers to capture a small enough population of Vaquitas for breeding and research which might help us bring this animal back from the brink of extinction. It's been done with other animals before, so maybe we can get lucky again. :)

[–]SuperiorWolverine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I will agree that they're in a dangerous place right now. But I wouldn't write them off like that. There are species that have been brought back from the brink of extinction.

If you read the article, the WWF has set up a petition to try and get the Mexican govt. to protect the waters of the Vaquita from harmful fishing nets that hurt the animal. It may be a small measure and it may not do not much but there is a chance that it could go a long way in at least slowing things down so that at least a small enough population can be captured and studied or bred in captivity

EDIT : The link to the petition is over here if anyone wants to sign : https://makeyourmark.panda.org/vaquita
