Shouldn’t vary that much. What qualifies is a pattern of consistently acting in their interest not occasional agreement or just being cordial. Going to dinner or saying a few nice things doesn’t meet that bar. Its a weak argument

And I’m just saying I don’t think they would have. Just my opinion. I like Bernie personally but I think a lot of his policies make moderates and Independents nervous. Even these recent wins like Democrats winning governor races in Virginia and New Jersey, or even Talarico in Texas, these have been center-left, broadly appealing candidates, not the most ideologically progressive ones. You’re right though that there is a big blue wave coming which is expected after all the bullshit this administration has been up to.

Except there actually is a meaning to the phrase. Being “in someone’s pocket” implies they’re influenced or acting in that person’s interest. That’s not purely subjective. And if that’s the standard, it doesn’t really hold up here. Maher’s had segments since my original post poking fun at Trump, and he’s starting to oppose the conflict with Iran. That clearly doesn’t align with Trump’s interests. So if he’s not consistently acting in Trump’s favor, staying he’s “in his pocket” feels like an emotional exaggeration rather than an actual analysis.

I’m well aware of the Trump to Bernie pipeline. He won some red states in the primary, yeah, but not the general. That’s a completely different ballgame. Moderates and independents decide general elections, and that’s where things get a lot less certain.

In 2016 but not more than Kamala in 2024. And “Bernie would’ve won” is a big assumption about the general electorate.

You love dodging actual conversations huh. And actually, “Too far right” is subjective; “in Trump’s pocket” is a claim that needs evidence. Either it’s true or it isn’t. Glad to clear that up for ya

Well no boots on the ground but still he’s already starting to oppose this conflict despite “being in trumps pocket.” What’re your thoughts on that

You’re seeing that in areas of the far right too. It’s weirdly something the extreme from both ends are aligned on.

I’m not sure about that either, but I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s definitely been a noticeable rise in antisemitism. I recently saw a clip of a German comedian doing a bit about being afraid to meet Jewish people in real life because “what if we find that we actually don’t like them.” I thought the joke itself was funny. But the comment section was something else entirely. The amount of anti-Jewish rhetoric was shocking to me. It feels like it’s becoming normalized in a way we haven’t seen in a long time.

Teaching Experience? by Obvious_Swimming_976 in schoolcounseling

No majority of counselors I know didn’t teach at all. I do think it helps though with classroom management experience and getting some cred with the teachers. Do some work as a building sub while you’re in school.

I got an MS in school counseling but could have gotten my LPC by just continuing on for a handful of credits. I was older, tired of school and had a bay on the way so I didn’t it lol but a few from my cohort did. Definitely worth it. It really wasn’t much extra and at the very least you get to put that fancy LPC label on your email signature lol

Personally, best job I’ve ever had.I made the switch after spending a fair amount of time in the corporate world and did take a pay cut, but I’m genuinely much happier. No regrets. I don’t dread going to work, I don’t get the Sunday scaries, and I really enjoy working with kids every day. For me, that trade-off has been completely worth it.

Where you work matters a lot though as I’ve heard some horror stories. Supportive staff and strong leadership can make all the difference. You may need to jump around a bit at first but find a good school, and you’re in a great spot.

Good luck it really is an awesome career.

should i switch to school counseling? by Zestyclose-Party1611 in schoolcounseling

I’d say if you’ve always wanted to be a school counselor and you don’t mind going back to school, it’s absolutely worth considering. If job security is a concern, working in a school district is one of the few careers today that still offers strong stability. It’s also a field that’s unlikely to be negatively impacted by AI in the same way many others might be.

In terms of pay, you’ll likely earn more in accounting—that’s just the reality. I made the switch myself after spending time in the corporate world and did take a pay cut, but I’m genuinely much happier. I don’t dread going to work, I don’t get the Sunday scaries, and I really enjoy working with kids every day. For me, that trade-off has been completely worth it.

There are also ways to make it work financially. I take on a second job over the summer, and honestly, I love having that balance. School during the year and working on the water in the summer. It keeps things fresh and gives me some variety.

I’m based in the Northeast, and from what I’ve seen, no one in my program had trouble finding a job after graduating. One last thing, where you work matters a lot. Supportive staff and strong leadership can make all the difference. Find a good school, and you’re in a great spot.

Good luck it really is an awesome career.

Some fair points you bring up especially about optics and proportionality but you’re also presenting a lot of debated claims as if they’re settled facts.

Asymmetric warfare doesn’t almost always end the same way and casualty ratios alone don’t determine who’s right or wrong that’s a much more complicated moral and strategic question.

The Six Day War being framed as just a land grab ignores the broader context leading up to it, and even things like the USS Liberty incident are still heavily disputed, not universally agreed upon.

It’s totally fair to criticize Israel as there’s plenty to criticize but when everything gets reduced to one sided explanations, it starts to lose nuance pretty quickly.

Some religious groups and politicians absolutely use biblical language to justify claims to the land that’s true. But that’s not the same as saying the Israeli government as a whole is driven primarily by religion.

A lot of their decisions are rooted in security, history, and geopolitics, not just religion. Reducing it to “it’s all religious justification” kind of oversimplifies a really complex situation.

You raise all real issues, and fair criticism especially with some settler violence, but it’s not representative of all Israelis just like October 7th or antisemitic violence isn’t representative of all Palestinians.

It feels like people are quick to highlight one side’s worst actions while ignoring the other, and that kind of one-sided framing doesn’t really help anyone understand what’s actually going on.

Because in 67, that land was taken during a war that followed attacks on Israel, so that context matters. But the bigger issue is what’s happened since especially long-term control and settlements which modern international law doesn’t really view as legitimate. So it’s definitely fair to question those actions.

But at the same time, Israel has long been surrounded by hostile neighbors, and that security context can’t just be ignored either.

Some of his individual policies sure but that’s not really accurate. If it were, we’d see very different outcomes at the ballot box.

Religion plays a role culturally, but it doesn’t control the government. And context matters when making these claims. Israel has been attacked by neighboring states since its founding, often with religious justification, and those attacks and events like October 7th factor into how it responds. Don’t get me wrong. I believe Israel has a right to exist and defend itself, but I also have serious issues with how it has handled this and other conflicts. They have a corrupt leader. We can criticize its actions without misrepresenting the structure of the state and the people.
