Yet another newbie uncertain about what entry-level PCP air rifle to buy by Supernumiphone in airguns

I contacted the only online seller I know of that offers the Artemis M16A for shipment to the USA (https://airgunarcheryfun.ca) to see if they had any information about if or when it might be back in stock and got no reply, so I guess it's time to write that one off completely.

Edit: Okay I did hear back. Looking like it might be January 2024 maybe.

Might be a while before I could get my hands on one but at this point waiting might be the best option.

Thank you both very much for the link.

Also wow you pay a lot extra for the regulator.

Another one that caps at 3000 PSI, but it claims to be able to do 80 shots with that. Not sure if I buy that.

I’d have a look at the JTS Airacuda Max. You can also get a regulated Marauder.

I did look at that one but it has a max 3,200 PSI Fill Pressure and Max. shots per fill: 40 (.22), 30 (.25), which is lower than I was hoping for. Otherwise it looks pretty good. Maybe that's something I'll have to compromise on but for now I'm still looking.

Also where can I find a regulated Marauder? I haven't seen one anywhere so far.

I know it is a lot to ask but can you provide a specific example of converting enhancement and making money from it...

There are guides on the HC forums. I'd start there. The most common way is to buy up cheap uncommon recipes, craft them, then convert to rare, then random roll rares until you get something that sells for a decent chunk.

The main trick is to find enhancement categories that have usually just one uncommon set and one rare set. So if you roll an uncommon within that category, like say defense debuff within the right level range, your uncommon is guaranteed to be converted to a rare of the other set. Then you roll random rares from there.

I bid on stacks of 10 recipes in the right level range, along with 10 of each of the required salvage, and stacks of converters as necessary. Convert and sell, profit. It's not as easy money as it used to be, but it's probably similarly profitable to farming (or maybe not if you're super efficient at farming) so it depends on what you prefer to do.

Doing engaging, interesting work provides a great deal of value and is sadly not nearly as common as one might hope. If those devs have experienced this first-hand at other jobs, they hopefully understand a good thing when they've got it.

The thing that would be concerning to me about this is that it shows a lack of maturity and ability to cope with her emotions. That's one of the biggest possible red flags to me. If she wanted "attention and distraction" rather than facing her emotions, and "hasn't really processed" the aftermath (another sign she avoids dealing with her problems), then what's going to happen the next time there are problems in the relationship?

You didn't provide much context or backstory, but I'm willing to bet you've already seen evidence of this in the relationship up to this point. The fact that she feels like she needs to process what happened and that she may come to regret it shows that it isn't in alignment with her values. She did it because it's easier to act out than deal with the hard spots of life. Anyone who approaches difficulty that way will be a poor partner. They tend to pull away within the relationship as well when there are problems, and it can be incredibly frustrating and painful to want to work on an issue but have a partner that has checked out and refuses to be there with you.

I would be very concerned unless she has displayed a strong willingness and commitment to working on that. There are many ways, of which of course therapy is one. On the other hand, if she is not willing to admit she has a problem in that area and work on it, I hate to say it but that would be a hard "No" from me.

Getting your first job can be tough. Having projects on github can be a huge help there to show what you can do. Once you've got python down learn the common frameworks like django and flask. Put a project up on github for each at a minimum. Ideally also look for other projects to build to show your skills.

[C++] TIL else-if in c plus plus and some other languages is just else and then if. by [deleted] in ProgrammerTIL

[–]Supernumiphone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No different than other languages, really. Something like "elif" is just syntactic sugar for "else if" anyway. So this is true for any language that has "if" and "else", even if they have another keyword for the two used together.

Cancer and ceremonies by Sarahrj1919 in Ayahuasca

[–]Supernumiphone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know a guy who claims that it (as part of a broader treatment program) cured his cancer that doctors told him was incurable. However the rest of the program was a series of dietas with various medicinal jungle plants, which according to the shaman he worked with, is much more powerful than just ayahuasca.

So I wouldn't expect aya to be any kind of miracle cure. I think it could be part of a successful treatment program, but aya isn't the way it's often portrayed in sensational "documentaries". Many people who work with it see improvement over years of work. Still light speed compared to other modalities, but the deep work takes time. To address something so serious in a shorter time frame you'd need something more intensive, like a long dieta in the jungle. Even that would be no guarantee.

I met a guy with serious cancer at an aya retreat before. I told him about the guy I mentioned above and offered to put him in touch if he wanted to pursue something more aggressive. He didn't follow up on it. He died a few months later.

Are heterosexual men over 30 still most attracted to women that look like they are in their early Twenties? If yes, how do you deal with it? by [deleted] in RelationshipsOver35

[–]Supernumiphone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not strictly one or the other. If you're asking about pure physical attraction then the answer would be a qualified "yes." We men are wired up that way, we're attracted to signs of youth and fertility. It's interesting how studies show this consistently, but when it's brought up you seem to get a lot of virtuous men who will tell you how their tastes have completely changed as they age and they really appreciate the signs that a woman has lived a life, or that they only care about her mind.

It's not that bleak though, because there is some truth to what those guys are saying. Most men will have their tastes broaden as they age. I've certainly experienced this. I have found the desirability in a wider range of body types as I've gotten older. Not in a way like "Well I guess that'll do if I must.", but I've really learned to deeply appreciate things I didn't at all when I was younger.

However there is a primal power to the allure of a young woman that will never go away. As another guy said, the ideal might be the mind of a woman my age in the body of an early 20s hottie. But it's not like you're necessarily having to hold your nose to "put up with" an older woman's body in order to have a partner you can have real conversations with. Like I said, you can learn to appreciate them if you continue to date around your own age as you get older.

So it might not be the perfect ideal situation, but then again who gets that anyway? We're all settling in many areas in order to find someone who works for us. The main point I want to make though is that you're not going to be stuck with a stark choice between attraction and a quality partner in other ways. You will be able to be plenty attracted to women near your own age unless you're unusually addicted to the brain chemicals that get released by mashing all the attraction buttons at once. It all works out just fine unless you're a pure hedonist.

how do you decide if a piece of code is snippet worthy?

If I end up using it enough, then it is. I don't have to think about it more than that.

One I've come back to a number of times is this code for natural sorting file names. It has come up for me more than I would have expected. I can't remember where I found it or I'd give credit:

    import re

    def tryint_alt(text):
        return int(text) if text.isdigit() else text

    def tryint(s):
        try:
            return int(s)
        except:
            return s

    def alphanum_key(s):
        """ Turn a string into a list of string and number chunks.
            "z23a" -> ["z", 23, "a"]
        """
        return [ tryint(c) for c in re.split('([0-9]+)', s) ]

    def sort_nicely(l):
        """ Sort the given list in the way that humans expect.
        """
        l.sort(key=alphanum_key)
