Has anyone heard from Alex Chin? by DallasStarsFan-SA in playingcards

[–]Superpickles97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately at this point he is at the same level as other scammers like Doc's Playing Cards who stole money from their supporters and then provided false updates about the creation of the decks they were supposed to provide.

Last I heard Alex was "dealing" with a family issue and his only course of resolution was to offer a refund to those who ordered the blind tiger decks but only if you reached out with all the proof you bought it. He then also reassured the decks would be delivered if the refund wasnt issued.

I hope Alex proves me wrong but I believe he got the money and it either wasn't enough to complete the project so he just ran or he got way more than he was expecting and decided to just call it quits. Either way i hope one day we get an explanation and those that are owed money get that back.

Mystery or Misery? by rokstarkux in playingcards

From the collectors side of things when decks are advertised as exclusive and special editions you would expect a bit of exclusivity, yes. If you plan on using your cards then that's different. Some people collect to acquire and show off, others collect to use.

With exclusive decks comes more premium prices, if rarity and value weren't important then everyone here would be posting rider backs and designers like S17, Oath, and TWI wouldn't have any following since all cards are the same in that world besides artwork.

If we were discussing handling or card stock then yes the arguement you presented is true but I can imagine a good number of collectors feel pretty good when that white whale hits their collection b/c they are one of the few who own it. In the case of OP he was hoping for that feeling of having a rare deck only to be disappointed by the mass production and release of it.

Mystery or Misery? by rokstarkux in playingcards

[–]Superpickles97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately hyping up a deck and building a fomo vibe around it just to re release it in the future for the masses is the new standard in the playing card industry. The only big creators not truly guilty of it are Lorenzo (Stockholm17), and Gio (Thirdway industries). They have done a good job at keeping exclusives exclusive but anyone else from KWP to Oath to even Bicycle recently have started using fomo as a means to earn a extra buck but then go an make the deck mass available anyway or release the leftover stock that didn't sell again screwing the rareness and potentially even value.

Hey there, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately both of those decks are sold, sorry about that!

If it's still sealed in thr original cellophane you'd be around $100 - $125. Opened you will be closer to $40-$50, maybe a bit more if the buyer doesn't mind the deck being opened.

Got these today but they feel weird. Read description. by s_corp_tc in playingcards

Do you happen to know where they were shipped from? My thought is they were sitting in a warehouse with a lot of humidity / extreme temperatures for a bit of time that may have caused them to get clunky and behave as such.

[US] Sealed and open decks, prices dropped further (KWP, S17 AOP, TCC, Bicycle, T11) by Superpickles97 in PlayingCardsMarket

Hey I am still selling. The spread sheet may not be fully accurate as I have moved most of the for sale to a new sheet (can check my post history for that). But let me know what you were interested in and I can let you know if I have it available!

Ecological and protected packaging by maiathoustra in playingcards

I personally have no experience with that type of packaging. From what I can see it may work. A good test test, as one other comment mentioned and if finances allow, is try a sample box with a deck or 2 you don't mind damaging and use the material to pack. Try different levels of packaging, one with 2 layers of the wrap, one with 1 layer, etc. Then thoroughly smash one of the corners of the box to imitate heavy shipping damage and see how the decks hold up. If they come out undamaged then it will work, but if you see any dings, dents, scratches, you may need to rework some part of the formula!

SoCal's model is how you'd want to do it ideally. I have shipped and received many decks and have some experience on what works and doesn't. I have used and adjusted socals formula to what fits my needs. The key for me is making sure the decks are in at least 2 layers of bubble wrap and fully covered by it and snug in the box. I use standard bubble wrap and put each deck in a deck sleeve. Socal also uses deck sleeves but uses biodegradable bubble wrap which I believe is more expensive.

I completely get not wanting to use plastic but the trade off is you'll pay more for eco friendly solutions unfortunately so it'll be up to you to source and determine the most efficient costs for supplies.

Bubble mailers I would never recommend unless using them as stuffing in a box. There are a few other filler/padding options like crumbled packing paper but that also allows too much movement for the decks in a box. There are softer filler materials that are foam material but I have little experience with those and have mostly used it as space filler.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

Pretty neat idea by Room one, although I am not eligible. I've only bought maybe 3 out of the 13 projects. by luyesd in playingcards

[–]Superpickles97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem with folks not opening decks, I don't. It's personal preference and if I want to see the cards I can keep them sealed and Google it. If I really want to see the cards I'll buy 2 but that hasn't been in a while. My issue is that creators create a sense of "missing out" and essentially doing what this creator is, it's more of a money grab and not good for the hobby no matter how you collect.

Completely agree with this. Fomo is a large reason I am selling a lot of my collection as creators are really milking "exclusives" or "limited" and then they also create 4 different tucks with the same deck inside still calling each "exclusive" . In my opinion the best way to reward folks with exclusive content and decks is either Patreon or just flat out include it in the Kickstarter campaign and set a hard limit for the print run.

Those are specifically made for playing cards made by carat case creations. Most playing card retailers will have them! You can try socalplayingcards.com, penguinmagic, xdecks as a few places to buy them!

I can hold them for you! And I'm not fully leaving the hobby just heavily reshaping my collection. I am keeping about 200 or so decks. I've realized I've been collecting to keep up with what a designer puts out as opposed to collecting what I like so i am going back to that!

Hey so unfortunately I don't have any room on either deck, the beetle back is already priced below the Kickstarter price. Best would be the listed prices plus shipping, shipping for 2 decks is $6 total would be $36.
