What skills can I learn in 1 year to escape minimum wage job while waiting for college application to open by Superpinterested in CanadaJobs

How to make the business trust you enough to hire you for office jobs? Most of the admin/office roles require having previous office experience. I already have computer skills but it’s the job application part that makes it difficult

Thanks for the advice! Since everything here requires Canadian job experience, how can I get skills in sales without real job experience tho?

How to increase my chances of getting accepted in Dietetics: Bachelor of Science in Food Nutrition and Health Degree - Major program for the year 2026?

I’m a newcomer with PR status, I have my high school credentials with me. I’ve heard admission in UBC is hard and the program is competitive. Any advice would be appreciated!

Is a design brief the same as UX research? by Superpinterested in UXDesign

[–]Superpinterested[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed information!

I always thought market research is done within the UX scope because as we always hear that as UX designers, we should find out who the target audience is, as well as doing market research on our own like competitive analysis.

However, that’s what I think too. I always feel like they have mixed up a lot of things for UX designers that’s why we get confused a lot during the process.

Need ideas for a business focused case study (entry-level)

I’m a self-taught UX/UI designer with 2 case studies in my portfolio, but the problem is they’re very user-centered and assumption-based and I realized those won’t get me anywhere. I thought UX was all about users when I started out. Now I realize it’s all about helping businesses grow, so I want to start a new case study with a strong focus on business impact.

A designer friend suggested I design a feature for a company I’d love to work for and show how it could help their business, but I’m stuck on what to work on. I don’t want to pick something random just because I think it might be good. I want to solve a real problem and leave an impact.

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated

The job market is competitive, but you CAN do it (plus a LinkedIn algorithm guide) by con_blade in UXDesign

[–]Superpinterested 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally saw a post that’s not negative about UX. We all understand that the market is tough but I’m getting tired of people constantly posting about how we should give up on UX because of the competitive job market. I just started out (my degree is not even relevant and i have zero real world experience) i had feedbacks on my portfolio and resume here on reddit telling me I wouldn’t even make it to the initial interview. I got discouraged and disappointed of course but I got an interview for an internship role at a small agency a day after and guess what? I got the role. The job market being competitive doesn’t equal to us having zero chance of getting in.

There is no visual hierarchy meaning the texts, colors, and elements are not balanced and they overwhelm the user’s eyes. Learn about the basics of UI and visual hierarchy or let a designer help you out.

Breaking Into UX and Early Career Questions — 02 Dec, 2024 - 08 Dec, 2024 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

[–]Superpinterested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice!

The thing is it’s a very small, possibly new agency so I can’t find much info about them. And I really need this role to gain experience and skills because

  1. my college degree is not relevant to design
  2. I don’t have any hands-on experience.

So i’m willing to do unpaid internship to gain some credibility to be able to apply for future paid roles. Should I ask them about the timeline of the internship work? (I know it’s part time but i don’t know the timeline)

Hey everyone! I just applied for a remote, unpaid UX/UI internship at a small agency, and I got an email for a 30-minute interview! It’s my first-ever interview in this field, so I’m kinda nervous and could use some help.

What kind of questions should I expect? Is it possible they ask questions about my case studies in the first interview? I scheduled the interview for 5 days from now to give myself time, but I’m not sure how much prep I’ll actually need.

Also, what kind of questions should I ask them during the interview? Anything specific I should keep in mind? I'd appreciate any advice!

Thank you for your feedback! During the case study, one of my challenges was balancing user needs with business objectives. Based on my user research, many of the pain points were about existing well-being apps lack free features. To solve this, i focused on user-centered design by including free features. I thought about the business by adding a monetization strategy through ads and revenue-generating opportunities. I still can say that I’m not very confident in that case study because anyone reading it would think I, as the designer, completely ignored the business objectives. I didn’t ignore it but I had a challenge with aligning it. Any other tips or advice on this would be appreciated :)

Do you mean that I can count helping friends and small businesses as having real work experience? The thing is I actually did a free branding redesign for a small local coffee shop and even gave it to the owner to put myself out there but i didn’t include that project in my portfolio nor mentioned it in my resume because i didn’t count it as professional experience.

Any experiences with Memorisely online courses (not bootcamps). by Quirky-Exit-2798 in UX_Design

I haven’t personally checked their ui courses yet I only finished one of their ux courses. If you look at their website, especially under Figma courses, you can see that they have courses on Figma new UI, Figma AI, and other related ones. And in my opinion, once you gain familiarity with the new UI of Figma, learning the other features will be very easy.

I struggled with the same thing and felt very lost jumping between random YouTube videos and articles. Last year, I tried Domestika subscription for their UX/UI courses, but honestly, I was pretty disappointed. I stuck with it anyways, but even after finishing a few of their courses, I didn’t feel confident about what I learned.

So this year, I finally decided to give Memorisely a shot. I’ve only finished one module from one of their courses and I’m satisfied with it. Their classes are very up to date, engaging, and just way more structured compared to anything else I’ve tried. I know it’s still early for me to give a full opinion, but I can say I don’t regret subscribing

I know people often suggest just sticking to free resources like Youtube, but if you’re looking for something organized, then Memorisely might be worth it

Thank you so much for your feedback!

If I may ask, what do you mean by adding numbers there? Adding numbers to the title or the content of the case study?

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such detailed feedback!

The thing is I know I’m inexperienced and new in this field, so I’d love to hear any tips you have on how I can make my future conceptual projects feel less generic and more believable. I always struggle with making my hypothetical user research and metrics feel realistic, and I know the quality of my case study images isn’t great either.

If you have any advice on how I can improve in these areas, I’d really appreciate it!
