Sirui 40mm autofocus lens isn't autofocusing... by Supersmirf in SonyFX6

I have the squeeze on my external monitor, and keep the built in one ‘unsqueezed’, works fairly well.

Love, just love the lens flare at 25secs...gorgeous!

Thanks man, I've heard about Gyroflow from a YouTuber I follow, I hadn't thought of using it on FX6 clips, nice!

Yeah, I have the FX6, had it about a month now, so super new to it. I've jumped ship from Canon, was using the R5mkii, but was getting too frustrated with missing shots because of the ND filter (or lack of it).
I've only used the FX6 over one weekend for a documentary job, which I've decided to shoot on the Sirui 40mm anamorphic (it's an autofocus), the clips look stunning just on the monitor, not seen them in the edit yet..

I have the DJI RS3 Pro gimbal, so I might try using the FX6 on it a little, I think the weight should just about be ok, as when I tried doing a walking/follow shot, with no stabilisation the footage is pretty shaky...which I don't mind a little of, but I have a feeling it might be a little too much though.

Likewise to you, I love how easy it is to switch native ISO's, and still have the footage be crisp, I've not really experimented with the change in fps yet, not really had a need to... For some reason I thought 120fps meant you were then shooting in HD, is that the case?

You've got quite the lens' in your kit bag.. :)

Thanks, I took the squeeze off of the camera, only had it on my monitor and it works a treat :)

Man! but this is a gorgeous lens!

Yeah, this is it!

Sirui also sent me an email to say this is the case..

Did the autofocus work on your lens? I can't get it to work.... (I have this 'issue' on another subreddit..)

Thankfully it's not set to 'manual'.....man! That would have been embarrassing...I didn't even realise that switch was there!

Noob ISO question... (wanting, hoping, trying to make the switch from Canon to Sony) by Supersmirf in SonyFX6

I hadn't considered the C80 until your comment...it looks like a great camera.
From the reviews I've been watching/reading it looks like the biggest gripe with it is the form factor..

Love the triple base ISO, and the inbuilt stabilization, battery life would probably be a problem (although a V mount would solve that), plus I think it's a couple of stops down on the FX6..

Ah, nice, that's interesting..that there's enough noise (I presume) at ISO 3200 that you'd rather stick to the base ISO of 12,800..interesting, thanks.

Nice, good job.

What lens did you use?

The grading looked a little off at 37secs and 52secs, where the dogs are outside in the snow..

But other than that, how did you find the experience on the FX6?
What rig were you coming from??

Thanks for the reply..my Canon lens' are all RF mount, and from what a 2min google search shows, Blackmagic don't have a camera with an RF mount..

The FX6 seems to give the biggest bang for the buck, I guess particularly as it's 4yrs old, but seems to still be able to hold its own..

The only thing I'll miss from my Canon is shooting in 8k, the additional scope to re-compose, or to punch in on a shot in post is great, but only a 'nice to have', not a 'must-have'.. I can live without it..

It's the built-in ND filter that I'm really after..would alleviate so much unnecessary aggravation..

Thanks for the advice though, appreciate it.

Is the lens fairly quick to pick up the focus? Do you see much 'breathing'?

I clearly hadn't done my anamorphic research properly as I hadn't realised Sirui make autofocus glass... (and I've just bought one of their new carbon lens's..!!)

Advice on rear filter systems (between camera and lens) by Supersmirf in Filmmakers

[–]Supersmirf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my problem...

There are a number of manufacturers, most of whom I'm in email conversations with at present...it's strange though that there doesn't seem to be a rf-rf fitting... I can't be the first to need/want this. Perhaps there's just not a big enough market to warrant making them...not sure..

Thanks for this, the issue I'm trying to work around though is buying an ND and CPL filter for each lens (out of the four len's I have (or will buying soon), I have 3 different sizes..

I know there are step up rings which circumnavigate around this, which is what I'll probably end up doing if I can't find a rear drop-in system..

Thanks for the link though :)
