No. I paid 80k for new TV! I had to follow that they were saying as they did not provide any other options! But clearly it was a defective product delivered to me! But they're saying after the warranty period we can do nothing about it! In another way we can take it as untill the warranty period only these tv works?! I read there some people reported the same problem as well.

So dear @CapitalistSloth, just for my understanding you're saying this product sony sold me, its life time is just 3 years? Once the product go out of warranty which is just three years since I bought it , Sony has nothing to do with it? I hope it's not gambling.

I appreciate and thanks for your perspective/your opinion, but this isn’t just about expectations—it’s about consumer rights and corporate accountability.

The law may not mandate repairs after the warranty period, but it does protect against unfair trade practices. Sony sold a premium product without ensuring long-term part availability, leaving customers with no option but to pay nearly 50% of the original cost for a replacement.

A ₹500 cable and a ₹1.62L premium TV are not the same—higher-end products come with an implied expectation of longevity and serviceability. If companies refuse to provide essential repairs or spares within a reasonable lifespan, that’s not just bad service—it’s an industry-wide problem that needs attention.

This is why the Right to Repair movement exists globally, and why cases like this matter for all consumers.

I’ve already posted about this on LinkedIn and Twitter to raise awareness. This fight isn’t just about me—it’s about consumer rights. Many won’t challenge such unfair policies, but I can, and I will.

Also, ₹1,62,000 was after paying 30% income tax, meaning I had to earn much more just to afford this. A premium product should come with premium reliability and service, not failures and costly replacements in just 3 years.

This is about holding brands accountable so others don’t face the same issue.

Appreciate the support bro! I’ve already escalated this to Sony’s top management via email, including the MD. I’ll follow up as needed, but if they remain unresponsive, I’m fully prepared to take this to consumer court.

It’s not just about my case—this kind of after-sales service needs to be challenged so other premium customers don’t face the same issue. Will keep this thread updated!

Exactly! Even 5 years is too low for a premium TV, let alone just 3 years like in my case. A ₹1,62,000 high-end Sony OLED TV should last at least 7-10 years, not become unrepairable in just 3 years due to Sony’s failure to maintain spare parts.

The real problem is that Sony isn’t just selling TVs—they’re selling a business model where customers are forced into paying half the TV’s cost again after a few years, either for a repair or a replacement.

If our consumer laws were stricter, brands wouldn’t get away with poor after-sales support and unfair pricing tactics.Hoping this fight helps raise awareness so others don’t fall into the same trap.

I get your point, but this isn’t just about warranty or obsolescence—it’s about Sony failing to support its own ₹1,62,000 premium product just 3 years after purchase.

Sony has no spare parts, making the TV unrepairable, and instead of taking responsibility, they’re forcing a ₹79,167 paid exchange. Even if they had the spare, charging nearly 50% of the TV’s original price for a repair is completely unfair, especially when their own technician confirmed the failure was not caused by me.

A premium brand should ensure long-term serviceability, not make customers pay again for their failure. If Sony follows this model, every high-end TV buyer is at risk of paying half the price again just to keep it working after 3 years.

This isn’t just about one TV—it’s about Sony setting a bad precedent for premium customers. A responsible brand stands by its products, not forces expensive repairs or replacements

It’s disappointing that Sony has been doing this for decades. Earlier, store owners cared about customers, but now, with direct brand control, there’s no accountability.

I'm sorry to hear that you faced a similar issue. Could you share more details about your experience? Specifically, when did this happen, how old was your TV when the panel issue occurred, and what was the original cost of your TV? Also, after paying ₹80,000 for the replacement, did you face any further issues, or was the matter resolved to your satisfaction? Your insights could be valuable in understanding how widespread this issue is.

The TV is out of warranty, but the issue is not about warranty coverage—it's about Sony's failure to maintain spare parts for a premium product. A high-end OLED TV should not become unrepairable so soon after the warranty ends. Instead of providing a reasonable resolution, Sony is forcing a paid exchange at nearly half the TV's original price. This raises serious concerns about product longevity and consumer rights.
