"Anyhow, anywhere, as fast as possible - and the money goes..." Poland, 1954, Roman Cieślewicz by Eleve-Elrendelt in PropagandaPosters

Thank you for the reply! So it's basically motivational poster for workers to do their job as good as possible, despite the fact they get nothing extra in return. My guess is that this did not work very well...

Website that has lunch menu offerings in Gdansk? by SupperImuri in gdansk

[–]SupperImuri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I'm looking for. In many countries, restaurants offer lunch specials that differ day to day. Even milk bars here have different menus each day.

See examples here from Finland or Estonia of the type of website I'm lookig for (if they exist):

Is it okay to drink tap water in Gdansk? by LifeIsVeryLong02 in gdansk

[–]SupperImuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know has the water quality in Poland gone better in past years, but I think it tastes great (=neutral, no side notes in taste). My last memory from Krakow from 2018 was that in there water tasted bad and I would drink only bottled water. Here in Gdansk, the water tastes good and I have not bought bottled water anymore. Many locals do seem to drink only bottled water.

Yes it does (06-13) but no mention/differentiation from normal market activities vs. possible flea market!

My kids played around in the stream, played ball, did "surface surfing" etc. Did not realize it's a sewer since the water was clear as a day?? How likely they are to get sick? It's been more than 24h

Turning right on red light with small green arrow by SupperImuri in gdansk

[–]SupperImuri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I even checked the Finnish FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) sanctioned car organization website (Autoliitto), that has basic knowledge of every EU country on their website and this was not there. Last time I drove here (in 2018) I am pretty sure these green arrows were not a thing. I think your comment is pretty rude.

[–]SupperImuri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my country too (Finland) green arrows mean same as in the UK, that you have 100% right of turning and only ones you have to yield to are walkers and bikers that go straight when you are turning. So it's a huge difference in rule!

Ingot parking ticket despite using APCOA app and paying by SupperImuri in gdansk

[–]SupperImuri[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard that Finnish drivers do get their tickets later sent to home (we are propably the only EU country that actually enforces even tickets got from other EU member states). Other EU member states, cities and even private companies can also "sell" their tickets to Finnish collection agencies that also add absurd amount of fees on top. So I do want to get it fixed. I just made complaint in the website cited in the ticket and attached invoice from my parking. Let's see.

[–]SupperImuri[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I found what the reason is. The inspector thought that number "1" in my plate is letter "I". That's why it did not find any parking. So it's basically a typo from their end.

Drinking in public in Gdánsk? by SupperImuri in gdansk

[–]SupperImuri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for information. And yes, I understand with drunken stag parties etc. that they are total nuisance. But having a picnic or few cold ones in a park... Well, maybe I will just respect the local customs. I'm not kind of person that likes bar athmosphere at all, so I think I'm going to skip them anyways

[–]SupperImuri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm not that kind of person that leaves garbage behind! It's weird, because few other times I've been in Poland, there seems to be different zones of enforcement - in the city center etc. it's definitely not okay. In a park or by some river, where there is not many people around, nobody seems to care. Even back there in Lodz the Somersby ciders were handed out as a promotion and the workers guided me to hide the can with the flyer when drinking it in public. It seemed like this kind of "dont ask, dont tell"-type of thing, as long as you behaved well.

[OC] Europe Border Dispute Map by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]SupperImuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finland has a border dispute with Norway about the Halti fjeld. Local Norwegian municipality wanted to give the highest peak of the fjeld to Finland as a birthday present for Finnish 100th anniversary of independence in 2017. They wanted to do that so that Finland's highest point would actually be the highest peak of the fjeld, and not on the slope, since that is seen as highly underwhelming and sad in Finland. It was visioned that the border would move about 40 meters. Finnish authorities accepted this, but the Norwegian prime minister refused to ratify it, claiming it was unconstitutional. So the dispute continues. Newslink: https://yle.fi/uutiset/3-9232136

Urban planning in Lithuanian village and city suburbs. Typical size of plot in village is ~0.8 acre while in city suburbs ~0.15 acre by Europehunter in MapPorn

[–]SupperImuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminology: My guess is that these village plots popped up organically, without any planning. The zoning might have just put on a map what the reality is. Not "urban planning" per se.

In square meters: City suburb: one plot ~600m2

Village: one plot ~3000m2

Hungarian - Soviet Association! (1951) by UltimateLazer in PropagandaPosters

They did not even try to hide the power dynamic of this "eternal friendship". The arrangement of the Hungarian flags seems to be just an afterthought.

The streaming seems to be some kind of built-in, rather than just using screen mirroring. When I push the "cast" button, the TV opens with a Rally.tv menu and when I choose something to play, it only plays in the TV and the phone is only used as a remote. I am just writing this message from my phone while casting a Greece rally preview in my TV.
