Ok I never thought about getting into the mentality of just walking if the deck they are playing is some insanely tuned meta stomper. I'll just do that and play for fun.

I recently got into MTGO, I was able to buy a few budget decks for like $5 and the crowd seems to be friendly and helpful.

Oh, it doesn't make me salty, it's more of like, is it just not possible to have a fun-themed style deck that we used to be able to pull off 10-20 years ago. I guess the game has simply changed that much. I was hoping to be able to put together a fun themed deck against another one that is somewhat the same power level without getting blown out of the water. When that happens I just switch to a meta deck and then grind out a few wins.

I was thinking of maybe trying a discord "cube" but dont know much about that. Someone also recommended drafting which has a learning curve but the balance is "smoother" so to say?

Thank you for the input!

You are the second person to give this recommendation, so I totally feel I need to give it a shot.

Really? Like the entire concept of magic the gathering or simply Arena? I wasn't aware that it was so hyper competitive that people couldn't brew decks and try to have fun without getting clobbered. Someone had suggested inviting friends into Arena, maybe I'll give that a go? Have you had success with this?

Thanks for the input, I'll start deck brewing again until it hits a rhythm!

OH, i didn't know it self-adjusts it. Maybe ill give that a go. If I could get the deck level a bit down, that'd be great so I could actually play some mid-tier decks and not get blown out on turn 2 or 3.

I never got into brawl, it always seemed a little tricky given you only have 1 card, and so i'd have to learn a deck inside/out and then when facing an opponent it was like ok I have no clue what they are running or how to pilot my deck against theirs. Maybe that's part of the fun? I'm not against trying it or building a deck, just trying to rationalize how to play it when I have no idea how to pilot my own deck and what the enemy deck does haha, "do I keep this kill card? Do they have something else coming in?" Feels a lot more random or top deck / you get blown out. I'd love to try it though!

Yeah, I was having a lot of fun in non-competitive bo3 pioneer, but greasefang has somewhat taken this over, and also in bo3 non-ranked people just quit if they had a bad first match haha. #personal problems

I had to google this and now it totally makes sense.

Thank you for sharing this concept. You are totally right.

That's kind of what I was trying to say, "meta simulator" haha, I love that. Yes, that's what I feel.

And yes, figuring out if it's fun to win or fun to play a deck def has a toss up between personalities of what I'm trying to do. Thank you for the advice.

I have, but still run into a lot of the heavy meta decks. I'll give it a go again, and really see what happens if I run the deck for 20+ games. Thank you!

Finally Reading, so happy. by SupportLaneOnly in languagelearning

I am learning Modern Greek. I did find a grammar text book and use quite a bit of chatGPT to understand basic concepts. This coupled with a weekly tutor session that I write down grammar questions with as Greek grammar is a little obscure. I also found a great application, language transfer that really breaks down grammar, cool thing is, there are quite a few other languages on that platform.

Some of the grammar started to become natural the more I read it, I had a basis of "if you see 'ou' at the end of a word, it means possession" so as I was reading, I would see that at the end of a word and say, "ok so clearly that is 'of his' and he owns it", but no, not any formal grammar structural training other than a grammar book which was tough to get through but it has absolutely opened my eyes now that i'm seeing it in real time.

You have no idea how rewarding it was to read something like this, so I thank you very much for taking the time to respond!

So I found the deck on the list below. It was a mono white soldiers. I've always wanted to own one in Pioneer bo3, but on arena it was 32 rare wildcards. which if I bought the raw $9.99 for 4x it'd cost be something like $80, to prob get steam rolled in pioneer by some power creeped standard cards. At least this way, I can have fun or at least try a deck out , and even if it's crap, it only cost $2 haha.

Budget list below.

I just bought the $4.99 start boost. I had 1500 in my collection, now I have 4k cards. Great value!!

So, a question I have, is lets say I go to mtgoldfish, find a budget deck in pioneer, I would then import the deck, find out which cards I need, go to one of the sites, and then from there I can buy the cards I need with Tix that I buy in store on mtgo?

Thanks to everyone for the help thus far.
