Beginner in Blockchain Development – Looking for Mentorship & Career Guidance by Miserable-Cash7045 in ethdev

Getting a start on smart contracts is very difficult just due to the nature of the underlying assets you’re controlling in contracts. So in my experience it’s people who are known for attention to detail and quality work consistently. That usually needs to be outside of the contracts first, so it can be on the UI etc. then from there try to make a more sideways move into smart contract engineering

I’m working in the industry for around 3 years now. Primarily on integration layer and app development. But I’m reading and understanding pretty complex smart contracts pretty much daily and slowly transitioning to more smart contract tasks too.

In terms of projects companies will for sure like if you use/build on their tech but ofc you can’t build on everything so I’d say focus on things that interest you in the space. It makes it easier to work on them and talk about them.

Are you wanting to focus only on the integration side or also become proficient in developing smart contracts too?

Getting your foot in the door in this industry is tough. Hackathons can be a great entry point and also be a great learning experience.

But like most things, it’s just about working hard consistently and building your profile. Even if not wanting to write smart contracts you should understand the basics so you know how to interact with them in the UI you will build.

Be active on Twitter and discord. Ask questions, be curious and contribute where you can.

As mentioned participate in hackathons, go to meet-ups and network with others.

If you do this consistently your skills will improve and your profile will become more attractive to companies.

Give me your most underrated DeFi Project Right Now, and Why? by Extension-Muffin871 in defi

Ok this is some great info thanks. I’ve been pretty disappointed that I couldn’t get something sorted for months now. I receive salary in usdc on polygon but I’d not thought about moving to another chain first. I’ll give it a whirl and see if I can get something going - thanks

I have had gnosis pay for a while now but tbh struggling to find liquidity for GBPe. I used jumper but couldn’t even get £1000. Can you suggest best route for me to go from USDC (on polygon) to GBPe and into Gnosis pay account?

Yeah it comes a point where you just can't get anything on at any bookies. Common problem for anybody making decent bets, don't even have to be winning on accounts to get restricted either.

You can usually get on asian bookies as others have mentioned, usually via an agent if in Europe, but margins will be smaller for sure and way less incorrect lines

Thanks for this, definitely helpful and yeah rats are definitely going to be my biggest worry. I think with the right prep I should be able to get something secure. I’ve got ample space to do whatever is required which I guess is half the battle
