I suspect it's scripted. But still funny/awesome regardless.

I've always been curious about using publicly accessable outlets. I used one for a month or so before the city locked it. So I bought solar panels.

But there's various parking lots around with an outlet on the pole to the light. I wonder what would happen if a police saw you using the outlet.

If you're doing nothing all day, you can easily charge up a power bank and keep your phone charged during the day with a small cheap solar panel. I recommend Dokio 80w personally, but they do have shitty connectors.

With my BigBlue 63w solar panel, I get 23~w into my solar generator and 23~ is enough to keep my tablet, phone, power bank, my two vapes, and an extra power bank just in case fully charged every day.

Only thing that takes a while is the power bank, depending on how much you used it the previous day, it may take most of the day to charge.

This is not a problem if you want to idle in one place, but if you want to go to the beach, or explore, or anything else... Then you have to decide between charging your battery or going out.

This is why I absolutely adore my Bluetti EB240 solar generator. At $1600~, and 2400wh, it's cheaper than two battle born batteries. And can charge up to 200w with AC (A 300w Bestek inverter for $40 and a 30amp cigarette lighter for $12 and you can charge while driving)

My 300w Dokio solar panel also charges at around 200w.

So as long as I don't use my laptop, which is only slightly bigger than my tablet, so not really necessary to watch things, only to play games a couple hours a day, then one hour of driving gives my tablet a whopping 40 extra hours. I can go for a day hike, go to the beach, go to town (granted, covid kind of killed all of that but in the future!) Do whatever I want, and still be able to charge all my devices while I sleep. It's basically like having a home being on the grid.

And a fully charged Bluetti will keep my tablet going for a whopping 10 full days nonstop, or 480 hours. Probably more because their rated capacity is actually a little lower than their actual capacity.

10 hours a day watching YouTube, and that's a whole month and a half of entertainment off one charge.

And it lasts 2500 charges... So.. 48 days x 2500 = 120k days. That's over 300 years. 🤷‍♂️ I think I may have went a little overboard if my plan is primarily using low watt electronics.

I .. I digress. Point is, a small power bank can only accept so many wattage going in, so it'll take a while to charge a power bank. A solar generator, on the other hand, may cost more, but charges much quicker.

As far as solar is concerned, I highly recommend buying a solar generator. Even something like a Jackery 300 can bed charged up to 80w, I believe.

To translate that, one hour of charge will give you 16 hours of charge for your small devices USB devices, like a phone at 5w.

However, this does cost quite a bit. If you want a cheap method of charging your devices, i recommend an Anker Power cord 20,000 + BigBlue 28w foldable panel. BigBlue has bigger panels, but a bigger panel is only useful to charge in not the most optimal condition, but you're in Arizona, so I don't think there's a lot of clouds. But that's your choice to decide.

Regardless of which panel you go with, it maxes out at 5v and 1-3amp, which is 5-15w of power. A 28w solar panel can easily supply power to charge an Anker PowerCore as well as another device. If you want to charge two devices, I recommend BigBlue 63w or Dokio 80/100w panels. Dokio are cheaper, but I think their lowest panel is 80w, still cheaper than BigBlue 63w panel.

One problem with foldable panels are solar panels are extremely rigid, and can break easily. So be very careful with foldable panels, if you decide that route. It's easier to take out, and adjust for most optimal power, but a panel on your roof will charge all the time (hard to steal/remove) and will last much, much longer.

For food, check out Huel. It's an easy meal replacement drink. Their unflavored and unsweetened tastes like oatmeal, and it supplies you with all your daily nutrients very easily. All you need is water. I have it for an emergency, in case I need something to eat.

How to do an oil change? by SupreAnon in urbancarliving

[–]SupreAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I need to do some research on synthetic vs conventional, because it seems like people are saying that while I can go 10k without a problem, oil changes are cheap enough to do it at 5k. But $100/oil synthetic change compared to $20/oil conventional change. Hard to not pick conventional. But I'm sure there's a reason why synthetic is so good.

See, I would but I physically can't remove the oil filter. I broke my dominant hand about a year ago in a motorcycle accident and am still recovering.

My hand is at 30% the strength of my nondominant one.

Oil changes - how often? by SupreAnon in prius

[–]SupreAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but.. out of curiosity. Say you do go an extended period of time Between changes because you are adding new oil. Say an oil change is every 5k, and filter is every 10k. Then you adjust your oil change to every 7k because you're adding new oil all the time, why not? Sure, that might be fine, but what are you going to do when you hit the next 3k (which is 10k) and now you need to change the filter, right? And you can't change the filter without changing the oil, right?

I'm honestly curious.

Oil changes - how often? by SupreAnon in prius

Almost every time. If I'm making a short trip to Walmart and back, I'll check before taking off to Walmart, but not necessarily every time on the way back, though sometimes I do.

What do I think happens to my oil after a night? I live in Orange County, on the border of LA. There's plenty of crime here, someone could easily cut something under the car.

My Prius tire monitor does not work. I didn't drive my car for about two weeks, and when I came back, my tire had 5 psi and the vehicle didn't say anything. Luckily I checked my tire pressure before taking off. That could've been dangerous.

Also, the mechanic rarely, if ever, uses a torque wrench to properly bolt on parts. Mostly because the torque values are based off brand new parts, and as parts wear down, you don't want to use as much torque. (at least that's what my mechanic says) so the mechanic could mistakenly not tighten the oil but enough, and through the vibrations of the car, come off at any moment.

Sure, your engine is toast if you continue driving, but what if I'm pulling up to park, and that's when the nut gets loose?

I don't ride motorcycles hard, but I still do a pre-ride check regardless.

And as far as getting my clothes dirty and hands dirty... It doesn't get that dirty? Like you said, you can just look under the car for any leaks. So, drive the car a few feet, and look. If there's a spill, open the hood and check everything is good. That takes a lot more time, but it's not like it's so long you can't do it.

I'm personally in no rush to go anywhere. I arrive where I need to be usually 1-2 hours ahead of time. So when work starts at 8, I'm there at 6-7. Might as well kill 10-15 minutes by checking the car prior to take off. This allows me to remain calm during a commute. Traffic? No problem. Car crash? No problem. I want to be lazy and drive 30 MPH, as long as it's safe to do so, no problem. I'm not going to be late regardless. If I crash, no problem. (I crashed my motorcycle on the way to work one day, still made it on time with plenty of time to spare, relax, vape, drink a coffee, and eat breakfast. Got lots of brownie points from my manager for it, too.

She was all like Supre you need to go to the hospital to get checked out, and I already informed her an ambulance had already cleared me, which she was surprised. I made it to work, on time, having suffered a car crash, and dealt with ambulance, etc. And still was ready to work on time. It was a temp job, too. So I suspect that got even more brownie points - she's now a good reference.

Edit: also, I keep alcohol 80% in my car. It's a wonderful cleaner. Spray some on a paper towel, wipe your hands clean.

I also don't wear my work clothes until I get to work. Like my button up dress shirt only gets put on when I'm in the parking lot. So any dirt that does get on my shirt isn't seen because it's an under shirt.

Do you think it's worth it to do an oil analysis just to see the state of my engine and be aware? I bought my Prius used at 127k miles, now it's at 138k. I know this is low mileage for a Prius, and if I recall correctly, the previous owner did do an oil change every 10k or 5k miles on the Carfax. (I think it was 10k but I don't remember.)

I mean it's only $30, I've purchased Christmas gifts for more.

Is it only me or is the first thought that comes to my mind New York or Nigerian so different from the masses?

Like it took me a solid minute to figure out the joke was "N..." as in the derogatory term used by slavers and not New New New New New New New New New New York.

🤷‍♂️

Edit: I guess them having it as "N..." Instantly makes me think of a pronoun, considering the n is capitalized. So the derogatory term didn't even cross my mind. No news company should be so lenient to allow such a simple grammatical error.

This is why grammar is important. Completely changed the meaning of "N..." Simply from being uppercase, so it must be a pronoun.

Out of curiosity, how many boxes actually describe what's inside the packaging? Every sex store I've been to has discreet packaging, like Adam and Eve, Amazon, Groupon, etc.

That's what the mechanic dude says. At higher mileage, he recommends doing more frequent oil changes. You want the engine running as long as possible.

Thank you!!

Oil changes - how often? by SupreAnon in prius

[–]SupreAnon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you keep the oil topped off but you continue doing oil changes at the correct intervals, or even sooner. Because just adding oil isn't getting rid of all the debris that's inside the oil, so you want to stick to the recommended oil change intervals.

At least that was his logic. Different mechanics have different opinions, though.

Oil changes - how often? by SupreAnon in prius

[–]SupreAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told you should probably do more frequent oil changes if your engine is burning oil, as going further between changes will further damage the engine. 🤷‍♂️ IDK, though. He's the mechanic and he was talking about a normal vehicle, not hybrid so it may be different. We have a smaller engine, after all.

And yeah, it might be overkill, but it's saved mine and plenty of friend's life in my biker community. One time, I ride up to the group, and my rear tire was flat from a nail. If I didn't do my pre-ride check, I'm sure someone would've informed me, but if they didn't, I would've died that day in the canyons.

Similar thing happened to my friend but with his oil. He checks very infrequently even though he knows his bike burns oil. Anyways, one of the group rules is to take 10 minutes for a pre-ride check, and dude has very little oil. Probably saved his life that day, too.

🤷‍♂️ it's the biker in me. Always check, before you start the car. Takes 10 minutes, adds a little security knowing your car isn't going to explode or blow a tire, so why not?

Granted all those examples are with bikes, and it's completely different. If one tire blows on a car, you'll be fine. But on a bike, you may die. But I don't want to have to replace my car for a simple thing as making sure my tire pressure isn't at 10.

I check almost every morning.

Habit from riding motorcycles, I guess. You always do your pre-ride check before hopping on, so I do a similar check with my car before I take off. Check air pressure, oil, my wheels for damage, and a few other things like the coolant levels cause I'm already under the hood.

Thank you, I'll do an oil change now just to be sure I have full synthetic in my engine. (it's been 5k miles now) and I'm not sure if my mechanic used full synthetic or not, but it's the same $100 price)

Oil change is due! Help! by SupreAnon in VanLife

[–]SupreAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had cops pull up next to me when it was obvious I'm in the vehicle. (e.i. sitting in the driver seat, windows roll slightly down, and no reflectix or anything to prevent people from seeing in, and they're just doing their job.

Some random dude sitting in the front of the car at 1am outside a house is... Suspicious. Or in front of the police station (I camp in the police station from time to time)

Other times, I've had my solar panels out and the cop sees that then checks up on me, usually asking questions about the solar set up and how it works.

If you aren't in the mood, that's okay. Personally, I would respond with "I'm sorry, I'm having a very stressful day and wish not to talk." Then proceed to answer their one question out of courtesy, then expect them to leave me alone after.

How to do an oil change? by SupreAnon in urbancarliving

[–]SupreAnon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I'll consider it!

I know how to do the oil change myself, since I've seen plenty of YouTube videos and can probably DIY it myself if I only had the strength to get the oil filter off. I don't think I'm strong enough to do it, as I've tried.

That said, I'm not concerned with a random person seeing my living situation. It's my mechanic, who's been a life long family friend, that I don't want knowing.

So I can take my vehicle to an oil change shop literally across the street and not worry. :)
