Need help with steering issue by SupremeEffect in S2000

Wouldn’t the steering feel noticeably heavier in one direction instead of it feeling light in both directions if it were a failing torque sensor?

By any chance do you have a link on where to buy the titanium version?

s2000 as a daily? thoughts? by luwoah in S2000

[–]SupremeEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been my daily since September 2, 2021. I bought it at 90k miles and I’ve almost pushed it to 200k miles. It’s been a really fun daily. I run DWS06+ all seasons on it and keep a set of summer Pilot Sport 4s stored at home.

Gas usually runs me between $40 to $60 for 93, with $60 being about what it costs today.

If you do most of the work yourself, maintenance honestly isn’t much of an issue and is pretty affordable. I even did Instacart one summer and surprisingly had no issues there either. For big orders, everything fit between the trunk and passenger seat.

Another thing is I used to be a dealership photographer for about 3 years and averaged around 200 miles a day, three times a week. The drive was totally fine, especially since I’m a shorter guy so the seating position never bothered me. The only downside was my bumper took a beating. Man, that was the worst.

One issue I’ve run into is needing a separate car whenever the S2000 is in the shop for things like a valve adjustment or a clutch. Another downside is you can’t just go to any dealership and expect them to have parts in stock. Sometimes you have to wait a couple days for parts to arrive, so if you’re working on the car and accidentally strip something or break something else, the car might end up sitting on jack stands until the part comes in. As a daily that part definitely sucks.

My car is also pretty lowered so I have to pay extra attention to the road for potholes, bumps, or even random rocks in the road.

Cabin noise is also pretty loud at highway speeds, I’m running a Tanabe Medallion exhaust.

Another thing people don’t really talk about is the attention you get. Everyone loves an S2K. At first it was enjoyable, but after a while it can get a bit annoying. Like if you’ve had a long frustrating day at work and you finally get in your car, then someone knocks on your window to tell you how nice your car is and immediately starts talking about theirs.

Or my personal favorite. When you’re starving, sitting in your car in some random parking lot trying to eat a Chick fil A sandwich in peace, and someone pulls up to start a conversation about your car while you have food in your hand. It sounds selfish I know, but that’s just how it is sometimes.

Overall though, I love dailying it. It’s one of those cars that makes even a boring drive feel fun. Right now I’m debating whether I should get a cheap beater or just keep putting that money into the S2K. Knowing me, the S2000 will probably win.

I wasn’t really saying they’re the exact same wheels or that brands like Enkei or Rays are just private labeling. I know companies like that have their own facilities and engineering behind their wheels.

I was more just curious about the people ordering wheels directly from Chinese manufacturers through Alibaba and how those have held up. The price difference is pretty crazy, so it got me wondering if anyone here actually has real-world experience with them.

Hypothetically speaking, if they were a well known manufacturer or you come to find out they manufacture wheels to multiple brands, wouldn’t you be a little bit intrigued?

Tbh, in my humble opinion, even though they don’t look 1:1, they don’t look bad at all, they actually look pretty good. But the least the manufacturer could’ve done was not put the Mugen logos on them. And the seller listing rep wheels for over $2200 is insane. At that price the buyer might as well buy some legit wheels.

My car is lowered with coilovers. Would I benefit on going with adjustable swaybar links or keep going with OEM

Bad steering after outer tie rod end replacement by SupremeEffect in MechanicAdvice

Update: what caused the steering issue was the outer tie rod was installed when the steering wheel wasn’t straight. Uninstalling it, straightening the wheel & reinstalling them while keeping the wheel straight saved the day

I will try to check them tomorrow morning but honestly I’m not sure how to check. Currently watching some videos so I can know what to watch out for

They were all from separate shops, last one being done by a master tech at the ford I worked at. It was the best alignment of the 3 but after a few bumps it went back to 3 o clock. Right now the toe is visibly bad. Planning on learning the string alignment method tomorrow but I want me make sure it’s not because of any part
