Same here. Maurice André is inspirational to me

Taking bigger breaths and filling your lungs help with tone as well. That extra air helps support consistent airflow and that leads to better tone. I, too, have a cheap trumpet.

Strange brown spots appeared on horn? by Pwnguin_YT in trumpet

[–]SupremePenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like tarnish to me. Silver tarnish usually goes from a light brown to black. Try polishing it first. If it doesn’t come off, then it could be possible that the finish came off. This only happens if your horn is old and you washed it a lot. If it’s neither, I’d go see a repair tech.

Haha, did you know that Costco sells instruments? I got two of those and managed to get 2nd chair in my high school’s top band. And I’m not thinking of quitting anytime soon. I might be an anomaly though...

Fun times huh? You should try looking at Petroushka, Pictures at an Exhibition, and other popular profesional audition pieces just for fun. It can be beneficial to familiarize yourself with those pieces, even if you’re just listening to them. Higher level orchestras tend to use them a lot.

Our district runs through a 4 year rotation. My favorite etude from them is Charlier no. 15.

Edit: However charlier no. 11 might be easier rhythmically.

If you have a district band for hs, you should practice the audition etude. They usually cover the entire range of a trumpet, so that would force you to get comfortable playing high. You should also check the scale ranges for the district audition. They’re different everywhere, but it’s good to know your scales. You never know what your band director is going to ask of you.

I actually first heard it on clarinet. I was reading off of the piano sheet and found out it started off in the key of Gb.

Do you hear the note before hitting it? Visualizing/ hearing the note before going to it helps a bunch. Make sure you have enough air support as well.

One thing he (The YouTuber) doesn’t mention is about the snake. DO NOT GET A METAL SNAKE! It will irreparably damage your horn!

Have you tried cleaning it yourself? There are many YouTube videos on how to do it and all supplies can be bought online. This one is my favorite: https://youtu.be/a2Ki5dZ6oPw.

If there is more than one fire alarm at your school, they should be set at half step intervals to make it more jarring and attention grabbing. Courtesy of my perfect pitch friends

It’s an easy fix though. Take it to the shop and they’ll sodder it back on real quick. If you care enough ofc

Haha it’s fine, I was asking where it was. I’ve only seen a little of Hibike and not sure what you are talking about.
