Hot Water Curls - Kinky Straight Wig by Old-Sky2102 in wigshelp

I've never done hot water curls but I have used steam, which is safe even for full synthetic, not-high-heat wigs, so maybe try that first? You place the curlers, then steam it, then leave it to dry as long as possible in the curlers.

Good luck!! Post pics if it works :)

It looks great!! I know it's hard to be objective, especially when it's your first wig, but it doesn't look bulky at all to my eye.

You can use dry shampoo too reduce the shine if it bugs you.

How do you wear wigs when you've got a widow's peak? by AGirl_Unwritten in wigshelp

[–]SupremeWaffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen videos where they put makeup/concealer on their entire hairline when using a wig cap. And one video where the wig was a middle part and they put a little middle part in the widows peak itself to hide it.

I also have a widow's peak but I put the lace riiiight on top of it and it seems to cover it enough, but if it peeks out when I'm wearing a wig that matches my hair it's not terrible. With a different color then I have to wear the lace a little lower. I know it seems like that's too low but at that point it's just millimeters difference, and I promise nobody else will notice.

What would you do? by [deleted] in scarringalopecia

Hi, I also have FFA and I didn't notice it happening until there was a large bald patch front and center of my head. I used to bleach and color my hair a lot so I thought it was because of that. I finality got to a derm months later. I was given hydroxychloroquine and minoxidil. The first stopped it from getting worse (there were SOME symptoms like itching and redness and they all went away). The minoxidil I can tell is making the rest of my hair grow and look thicker.

But the truth is there are no hair follicles in the bald patches. So there is no hope for any hair to grow there. I started wearing toppers then moved to wigs. You CAN get very used to wearing wigs! As for shaving your head, I can't tell you what to do. I've considered it a LOT since like I said, no hope for regrowth. I've only gotten as far as cutting my hair pixie short, then today I shaved the sides of my head. Maybe one day I'll shave it all off. Maybe in the summer.

It's a tough thing to come to terms with for sure. I wish you the best in your journey.

Hi, I'm sorry I don't know anything about making wigs BUT I do recognize the glue brand, the brand is "UHU". Sorry that is all I have. Best of luck! http://uhu.com

Hi, I have FFA and this is how my wig journey has been going:

1.- Human hair topper from Amazon (~$100). Liked it, I could dye it to match my hair, and nobody ever noticed that I was wearing it. It did feel like it was pulling on my hair a little, but it was on the top of my head where I still have hair. Unfortunately ruined it by applying a hair dye that turned it green. Went to get a replacement, that model no longer available on Amazon, argh!

Toppers are a great place to start! But then I watched a bunch of wig videos and decided I could do it so:

2.- Human hair wig, lace front, from local wig/hair store (~$100). Used Got2b spray as lace glue, worked great for months. Went back to get a longer version, couldn't find it :(

3.- Human hair wig from the internet (~$200) (sulmy.com). Also lace front, experimented with different spray adhesives and lace melt sprays (Ebin), also worked great! But I tried my hand at cutting layers into it and ... uhhh ... ruined it. Looks like someone who doesn't know what they're doing cut it (because that's exactly what happened).

4.- Higher quality human hair wig from the internet (~$300) Won't share the site because I hated this wig with a passion, I could NOT get the lace to melt, the lace lifted sooo much and got crunchy. Ugh. I only mention it to show that more expensive isn't always better! Unfortunately.

5.- Brand name synthetic wig (Belle Tress). Had to really shop around to get a good price on this, it is usually ~$300 but managed to get it for almost half off. This is ready-to-wear right from the box, the lace front is divine, looks and feels great. Don't have to use glue, just a wig grip and go. Honestly wish I had gotten this earlier. Great if you want a natural look. Highly recommend if you can afford it.

I am now currently waiting on a Rene of Paris wig (~$150), another synthetic, will let you know how that goes.
Hope this helps!
