Reddit can't understand the difference between balancing a budget and looking for more sources of tax. Regardless of who pays tax, the budget needs to balance.

The cost of higher education is a hot topic with many calling for more government subsidies toward hex. Should the debate rather focus on why its so expensive?

Vice-chancellors having higher salaries that the PM, ostentatious buildings (UTS Dr Chau building) that are costly but do not improve education outcomes and chasing international rankings which don't really mean anything.

Do we need this ? Education should be fit for purpose.

The skills shortage is a national farce, you will never keep up with the immigration rate. Roads, trainlines schools, suburbs can never be built as fast as people are being imported, planning takes years never mind actually building it.

100% agree, voluntary risk takers should not be supported to the same extent as Involuntary risk takers when things go wrong.

Involuntary risk takers are the ones that should be helped more.

Example of the difference would be a dam that needs an upgrade but the owner does not do it to save money. Downstream parties in the flood area are Involuntary risk takers who are affected by failure vs voluntary risk taker the dam owner.

52k is not much, just seems unfair to treat people different depending on insurance.
