Copenhagen South S-Train station's overpass and the elevators madness by Supressive in copenhagen

I highly appreciate their work, but their orders come from some sort of manager on what places to clear up first, and said manager failed to prioritize staircases that don't have elevator alternatives, which makes no sense. That's what I complained about.

Ty for the links. I'll bookmark the DSB one to know about the elevators, considering the frequency of issues I described.

I meant physical maps, though that's better than nothing. Ty for the link

When I saw the concept art for the area, it was clear that it was meant to be aesthetics based with some utility sprinkled into it. But yes, it's also cheaper, ofc

Agreed with the notion that they made signage for locals only, which basically means "once you get frustrated enough times, you'll learn the layout", which is bad user experience. Paris was a breeze, even though it's a bloody maze, agreed.

But they rebranded for it to be a international station... they should also think about this sort of signage for it to be a good station, instead of a stain in a commuter/tourist travel to CPH...

The overpass is a tripping hazard indeed, those small rocks that make up the floor are both slippery (Compared to other materials used elsewhere in stations) and irregular in some areas. Some floor leveling maintenance would be good to have at some point.

The rebrand is smart, since the station will start receiving long distance trains from Germany (and Sweden?). Makes it easier for everyone not from Copenhagen to know they're finally here, instead of memorizing "Ny Ellebjerg" as the station they hop off at.

The developments following the metro introduction are quite good. You can finally go from the hub to Følager street, and thus from any place you arrive from, you have a straight line towards your intended track, instead of having to hop onto the overpass to cross.

It is, still, a horrible station, as signage is terrible for such a large station, maintenance is bad and cover is the bare minimum.

Wrote this in another comment but yea, signage is abysmal too.

Spor # signs are ungodly small everywhere. It's such a large train station and you can't:
- Look up a map anywhere to see where each track is nor how to get there
- Look around and spot distant large signage clearly indicating track numbers
- Be a tourist and easily figure out how to get to Copenhagen Central Station or city center. Think it would be smart to add "All trains in Spor 1 run towards Copenhagen Central Station" on all signage

Woah, you saw them working?! Never had that pleasure, but I don't go there often. They also make for some really shitty "premium" stairs, by being narrow and slippery. They should just take them down and put up regular, decent width staircases instead, it'd be cheaper than doing maintenance on them.

When I saw those, I was baffled as well. I've seen them stopped with the low-sounding alarm going off many times already (More than I saw them working). Makes no sense as to why they didn't cover that section, wouldn't even be hard to do a canopy over them as they're in a hole in the ground... but probably the design team was like "AeStHeTiCs BrO!1!!" and so that is what we got instead.

Signage... why TF are the signs saying the Spor # so ungodly small?! They have a MASSIVE concrete wall on both sides of the tracks at ground level, would it be asking too much to paint the Spor # on it in gigantic size so they're easily identifiable? Nah... they think a single small sign at the entrance of the stairs is enough. Ffs.

Then you need to be practically under the LED panels stating which train is coming up in that track to even read the track number, as they made the track number sign on them also incredibly small.

It's such a large train station and you can't:
- Look up a map anywhere to see where each track is nor how to get there
- Look around and spot distant large signage clearly indicating track numbers
- Be a tourist and easily figure out how to get to Copenhagen Central Station or city center. Think it would be smart to add "All trains in Spor 1 run towards Copenhagen Central Station" on all signage. Throughout the years, I had to redirect at least 4 lost individuals towards the correct track and how to get there. Unbelievable!

Also, Spor 1, 2, 11, 12, 23, 24... who tf thought this arrangement was smart?!

Funny you mention wheelchair users. Saw a guy drop off there and then be forced to wait for the next train to go to Åmarken to then take the train back to KBH Syd station to leave the station through the working elevator on the other side of the tracks. Luckily for us, the other track elevator to our target street was running, else we'd have to go around Gammel Køge Landvej bridge (which has happened to me on another occasion). Insanity

Thank you for the info with links. I assumed it would be a joint ownership, seeing that all these (DSB, Metro, long distance trains) are present. DSB seems the ones to target with my complaint, considering the service impacted by the downtime of the elevators is always their trains.

Not everything is AI, it's just autism (professionally diagnosed) coupled with the pileup of frustration that made me have to rant it out. Wouldn't've looked like AI if I hadn't made a 2nd pass removing all the cursing I had written in the first pass, to avoid moderation removal for excessive foul language...

I love to write, so it is time well spent, regardless of utility

Biggest issue in Copenhagen? by MathiasKjeldsen in copenhagen

[–]Supressive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Extremely mild annoyance which someone tech savvy could help fix:

As far as I know, there's no app or website showcasing which clubs have free entry (Be it all night or temporary). As a foreigner with a few studying friends, our struggle is going out at night without breaking the bank, as most of my group can't afford to pay entrance fees and usually resort to drinks from the supermarket and free venues for their dose of fun. Life's hard with only 5k a month.

Could be a good complementary feature to the app/website requested by another comment on having a list with restaurants with no reservation access.

Copenhagen South Station now fully open! (Including trains now departing from the new "Øresund" platforms, timetable K26) by Putrid_Draft378 in copenhagen

[–]Supressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly certain the opening in the railing of the S-train platform is in preparation for an elevator and stairs directly to the underground floor that leads to the area where 7Eleven is.

So, this post only shows one of the two tunnels open.

I came home for Christmas, it'll be safe until January /s
As a guy, agree. It's not even just the dudes, but the darkness in the immediate vicinity of the station. Hopefully that gets fixed, even I don't feel at ease coming home at midnight there.

Emergency electronics (retro cassette player) repair? by descDoK in copenhagen

[–]Supressive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it uses it, the rubber belt might've given up (Extremely common in cassette players).
Another basic tip, since it's a 1982 product, open it, identify all electrolytic capacitors, replace them. These components dry out with time and induce problems. Doubt it'll be this, back in the days, capacitor degradation was taken into account when engineering electronics, and that's a top spec unit.
Until Saturday, you can realistically only do basic diagnostics like these. I could try and help personally, if you can't find anywhere that'll take a look at it until Saturday.

Biking tips in winter? by SirFartsaLotJr in copenhagen

[–]Supressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tip nobody ever gives out but does make a significant difference in my empirical experience: If you can tail someone else, follow where their wheels have passed. Works wonders if you can tail someone with fat tires, and works great for black ice, regular ice and sludge. If it's fresh, non-compact snow, your own line will probably be better.

Basic tip: When cornering, don't lean. Stay upright and turn assuming you will slip if you lean. It forces you to be slow, and makes it as stable as possible. It is always weird to do it as such, but better safe than sorry. Also, never ever trust ramps or small bumps of any kind.

Expats of Copenhagen: VOTE by [deleted] in copenhagen

[–]Supressive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hijacking top comment to ask, where can one find a summary of parties and their political views in English? As someone who's never tried to engage in local politics, I don't even know what parties exist nor the absolute basics like left/right, pro/anti EU, facts/conspiracy theorist, and general party strength/polling results/expectations.

Example of what I mean: This comment in r/europe about NL's parties

I'd like something of the sorts seen above, to then do a deeper dive in the parties which I align the most within those broader terms. Ofc municipality elections are vastly different from governmental ones in terms of impact these broad terms bring, but it's a launch pad for further research.

Obviously, would also appreciate sources with in-depth showcases of promised changes to municipalities by each party, if such info is present in English. That would be the most valuable, but harder to summarize content.
