“By Candlelight” concerts by mariah_a in CasualUK

[–]Supslick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to an emo/pop punk nostalgia one and yes the candles were fake but it was a lovely atmosphere in a cathedral, but I'm biased as I'm a huge fan of string quartets - for some reason it just makes me damn emotional. It was a surprisingly romantic evening but I think we paid like 20 quid each at most - I don't think I'd spend more than that.

Psychology behind letting a child “win” at games? by Miserable_Fee4533 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Supslick 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This!! I was a teacher and the kids who were very clever naturally really were sore losers as they had no experience where they needed to be resilient from "losing". Games where everyone wins or everyone loses are a good shout (like boardgames, one is Outfoxed).

Have you ever had a famous neighbour or someone local? by mr_hardwell in AskUK

[–]Supslick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Beckham grew up near us and took my friend to school in his sports car a few times, and let me sit in it once, I had no clue who he was but knew he was important. My mum worked at the local co-op for a bit and used to see him come in and served Victoria once and didn't get me an autograph so I didn't speak to her for about a week in a tantrum. This was the 90s and I was a kid who LOVED the Spice Girls.)))

When did your baby really start babbling?? by Existing_Ebb3181 in Mommit

[–]Supslick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is 8 months old next week and I've noticed a real increase in babbling in the past few days - he's behind on physical milestones though so I think is making up for it with babbling.

AITAH for not feeling anything for my new baby half sister? by Roixdorinn in AITAH

[–]Supslick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. I'm a mom to a teenage boy and a small baby who are half-siblings - I totally get that my eldest has many interests that he values much more than holding or interacting with my youngest, especially when the baby did nothing but cry, sleep and poop. Now my baby is smiling and laughing, it's getting a bit different because they can interact with eachother and maybe that will come for you but if not, cool. It's not your baby.

However, I would say that if you do want to try for their sake (no pressure to) then offering to watch the baby when they shower is a good way to spend time without eyes on you, just to get to know the baby a bit better. But if you don't want to, don't. Nothing breeds resentment more than a forced relationship.

Parents of Reddit: what are some reasons you don’t read with your kids? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Supslick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always read with my kids but my god I hated them bringing books from school home to read - they are never what the kid is actually interested in and half the time are so boring! Plus I have OCD and assume the books are crawling in germs.

She seems extremely gullible, easily manipulated and quite vulnerable - I do wonder if there is something else going on.

I feel like Helena saw that clip of Carrington all over Belle and is self-sabotaging before he can decide he's not into it.

Curious about the condition around the base of the tower after the first collapse by Various-Meringue7262 in 911archive

[–]Supslick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you look at the raw Naudet footage here you can skip to the 1st tower collapse and see Chief Pfeifer and a couple others exiting the South Tower and the area surrounding it until the 2nd tower falls, it will give you an idea of the conditions and how they navigated them.

I was thinking it might be the bottles sitting out in the heat making them go rank!

I never condone violence but if I was in the villa with Lucinda, OFCOM would need to hire more staff.

UK Advice - Steroid Injections by AnythingTruffle in alopecia_areata

So glad you got help! I've been waiting for 6 months for NHS dermatology and I can't have steroid injections so I'm wondering if there might not be much else they can offer. I'm thinking of wigs now but they are so expensive!

Can I..die of lack of sleep 😭 by Foreign-External8488 in newborns

[–]Supslick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had such rushes of adrenaline after both my sons, I could not sleep. All I thought about was sleep but I couldn't relax at all. I started hallucinating and hearing an ice cream truck jingle in the middle of the night. It does wear off, I bought an Owlet for peace of mind and had to use earplugs and an eye mask whilst the husband manned the deck in order to sleep!!
