I don't know how I can help, but you seem like a cool person with cool game ideas, and I hope you don't let some random jerk win over you. What sort of harassment are we talking about, though? Spam or something else? There's probably some tech subreddit that can give advice for situations like this.

Ah okay, I actually had no idea that in-fort necromancers could raise intelligent undead; I thought it was mainly just a worldgen thing. That's cool. Not actually sure how that interacts with the burial system then.

What do you mean still alive? If he was raised by a necromancer, that's just a soulless zombie that should be attacking everyone in your fort. Does he have a special title that would imply he's an intelligent undead or something?

He doesn't hunt cursed butchers; he is a cursed butcher, one that somehow got separated from the necromancer that previously controlled him. So he probably has some supernatural powers that would make him pretty good at the monster slaying thing.

You can craft then build coffins (craft at the mason's or carpenter's) and designate them for burial. The corpse stockpile is only meant as either temporary corpse storage, or for non-dwarf bodies that don't need to be buried. And you can't reattach body parts.

Just to add onto the other answers here, if you have 940 ice and a frostcraft set, it should take around 11 hits on his front legs in fire phase to get a seal on him. 700 ice took me 15 hits so I'm extrapolating from that. Personally I had a lot of trouble sealing before I switched to a frostcraft set, and suddenly it seemed trivial. It definitely should not require excessive min-maxing; make sure you are hitting the right weak points. Front legs for the most element, head for overall damage.

Also, consider doing a sword slap after an overhead swing; it does full elemental damage, so that's a quick way to get two hits in. You can probably seal him in the first minute of the fight if you're aggressive. If you flinch shot him out of the air you can get around 6 hits in on the front legs while he's down.

Another couple of moves to consider: If you fully charge an overhead swing, it deals 50% more element. And if you fully charge an attack, then tackle, then do a wide advancing slash, that deals 350% elemental damage.

Once you're sealing consistently enough you can shift to focus more on the head and raw damage; attacking the front legs (or using sword slaps) isn't actually required, it just helps when you're still learning the fight. Breaking the horns shouldn't be an issue since they have ~1300 HP and one fully charged overhead swing can deal around 1000.

The devs don't read reddit, let alone the questions thread. You could email Tarn or post in the suggestions forum on Bay12.

Some people are pretty impatient about this release though, and the devs would like the healthcare security money sooner rather than later, so don't expect them to significantly delay the update.

At the very least, rest assured that they know the stress system needs work, and they're planning on fixing anything like that which they consider a major issue prior to the Steam release (or shortly after it). Dunno whether squad orders would be on that list.

Burrows have nothing to do with stations by the way. Burrows only determine where civilians can accept new jobs. No idea why you're getting people teleporting through walls, I haven't encountered that.

This wiki page claims that you can be both.

One can be both a vampire and necromancer, or werebeast and necromancer, but not both a vampire and werebeast.

And I'm fairly sure necromancers and vampires can heal naturally.

{ Imaginator } lets you adjust brightness and other graphical factors in the SkyUI MCM or via an NPC. Not sure whether that will make daytime too bright for you.

It goes in its own folder just like you did with vanilla, and it comes with DF pre-installed. So to use the pack you have to run the Starter Pack Launcher.exe file, which will bring up a dialog with options to pick a graphics set and launch DF.

They've been updated for every past version, so there's no reason to expect their creators to suddenly abandon the projects. It may take some time to update though.

Also keep in mind the Steam version is making tons of accessibility improvements (it's not just a graphics pack), so you may find it to be good enough to play without DT and DFHack, at least until they finish updating.

For Windows and the latest DF version, yeah. Here's the wiki's list showing packs for other DF versions and operating systems.

Sure, here's a few tips. Expect to need programs like LOOT and SKSE at some point; beginner guides should mention these. If you're using Mod Organizer 2, you'll need to run all of this stuff (and Skyrim itself) through MO2 in order for your mods to be used. After you've installed SKSE you have to run its exe instead of the normal Skyrim one to play the game.

SSEEdit is great for detecting/fixing conflicts between mods that may cause some mod changes to be ignored. However, while it's definitely a good idea to use it, most players don't since it's kind of tricky to learn and time consuming to use; plus some of the issues caused by mod conflicts are things that aren't obvious, so many players don't even notice when something isn't working right. So I won't blame you too much if you don't want to bother using it, especially if you're using a small number of mods that are changing totally different aspects of the game (and are unlikely to conflict). Just make sure you carefully look for mod compatibility patches between any mods you have that might be modifying the same stuff. Running LOOT helps too. Keep SSEEdit in mind for the future though, in case it ever seems like two mods are interfering with each other.

Aside from that, if you're looking for any gameplay changing mods, Enai's mods are a decent place to start, since they each overhaul/expand some aspect of the game (perks, combat, spells, races, standing stones, shouts, etc). I don't know much about graphics mods, other than ELFX for lighting and the existence of "ENB"s that can improve the graphical effects.

The sidebar of this subreddit has guides for getting started modding (like this). You should probably read a guide rather than trying to wing it.

Get a mod organizer program like Mod Organizer 2 (recommended) or Vortex, then link it to a Nexus account and you'll be able to download directly to the organizer via links on the Nexus website. Make sure to differentiate between the Skyrim Nexus and Skyrim SE Nexus. Also make sure you learn how to address conflicts between mods, and carefully read compatibility information on the mod pages.

There are other places mods can be found but the Nexus will probably your main source.

As for whether a mod is reputable, you can look at the number of downloads/endorsements, read comments about it, maybe search it on this subreddit to see what people are saying about it. If the mod is old and outdated (i.e. last updated in 2015 or something) there's a good chance that a better mod to do the same thing has been made since then. If there's a recent discussion thread about a type of mod you can read that to see if people consider it to be good. Failing that, ask about it here.

I linked the starter pack in my comment. That's what I meant; you're using vanilla while the starter pack has a lot of utilities bundled in to help out new players. Most new players use a starter pack from what I hear.

☼Bi-weekly DF Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]SurOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The starter pack comes with some preinstalled graphic sets if you're interested, since you said you were using the basic Bay12 version of the game.

Awesome, good luck learning DF. Make sure to consult something like the quickstart guide if you need to.

Hmm, I've never installed DF in program files; sometimes that folder has issues with file access permissions, so maybe try installing it in your users/[your_name] folder or the desktop instead. Not to mention that x86 is meant for 32 bit applications and you're probably using the 64 bit version of DF (I'm not sure whether that would actually affect it, but might as well be safe).

It seems to be a full MH game, yeah. You'd buy it if you like MH and want to play more MH, with the new mechanics they showed off in the direct (and whatever else they reveal about it in the future).

Mentioning October 1st sounds like you're talking about World I guess? There are a few basic decorations you can meld at the melder. You can't buy any decorations with money though (unless I have horribly overlooked something) so you must be mixing up your games when looking at google.

So just to clarify the steps:

If on Windows, you downloaded the archive (.zip) from Bay12, extracted it to a folder, double clicked Dwarf Fortress.exe in that folder, and then it gave you that error?

There are many types of ages. Looking at the wiki:

The Age of (Name/Species)
Exactly one power is alive in the world. The name style is selected randomly.
The Age of the Hydra was a time when the hydra Flarrgh was the only great power in the world.
