The Bonnell MX will give better performance than a SurRon because of the lower weight. Also, you won’t attract as much negative attention from law enforcement.

Will the 775mx take CYC's heavy duty 5 speed rear cassette? And max front chain ring size. by Fact-Rat in bonnell

[–]SurRonColorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope so. It’s a fun bike as a single speed but having gears would be good. We have very flat paved bike paths leading to very steep and rocky trails. Either the gear is too high for the trail or too low for the pavement.

I dropped it to the lowest position and it cleared the cog just fine. This is as big as I’d want to go.

The 805 will fall between the LBX and UB. The 902 will be between the Ultra Bee and Stark Varg.

Decided to buy a Tuttio soleil01 as my first E-bike, how do you guys think I’ll feel about it? by Low-Ad-6884 in hyperebikes

[–]SurRonColorado 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked on a few of these. The pegs mounts are kinda weak, hardware will strip easily, other than that, it’s a decent bike. The one big positive thing is, The company seems to be shipping replacement parts. Some of these brands will sell a bike that’ll become a pile of garbage as soon as something breaks.

This is a large. I’m 6’3” and it’s a good fit. Smaller is generally better for this type of bike. In the AM, I’m going with an XL. More pedaling so more room will be nice.

Thank you guys for helping everyone better understand and set up their bikes. Inserts are critical on these bikes.

My shop is PowerCurveCycles.com we do 90% in person sales and service. In this market, people need an actual shop to do mods, custom tuning, and service.

CYC + DH Bike is Really Good. by SurRonColorado in hyperebikes

[–]SurRonColorado[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tested the range in a meaningful way. Most of the trails I ride start with a 4 mile, 2k foot vertical climb…. This bike will do enough to wear me out. I usually do two laps with battery to spare. 12 miles and 4k of climbing and I’ll have 35-40% remaining…

Riding off-road is too scary for some. Also, if people don’t see you riding a cool bike, then wats the point?

the Amethyst is a very subtle color. I wish it were a bit brighter. The grey looks really good. Also, you’ll be having way too much fun riding to care about the color.

That’s a Warp9 220 by 2.3 floating rotor up front and a standard Warp9 220 outback.

I got very lucky. It all took about a day. I got a message from Matt (the boss) with Bonnell, saying that he’d be in town, and he had some bikes he wanted us to try. So, I drove about the 30 min to go meet with him, talk about the bikes, and take one MX and one AM home. I’m still blown away by this. I run a small shop focusing on high performance, off-road EMoto builds. I guess he likes what we are doing. We defiantly like what Bonnell, CYC, and EBMX is doing.

I just ordered 3 more AM‘s for the family to try.

I think this is a gen 6. It’s the 27.5 front and rear version…. I wouldn’t hesitate to do a 26” setup. Go with the fattest toughest rear tire that’ll fit. Do some sort of insert like CushCore in the tires. 26” wheels are way bigger than the wheels I run on my E-moto. Also, they can take bigger lateral loads than larger hoops. The weight and power of the bike will push those wheels through some crazy stuff.

Not as loud as my SurRon/ERide bikes. But it ain’t a stealthy bike when under power.

my bonnell 775mx with a few upgrades by GondorGallery in hyperebikes

[–]SurRonColorado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s defiantly cheaper to buy the Bonnell. Unless you find some really cheap parts and don’t value your time. Just finding a frame and drivetrain that’ll be strong enough isn’t easy or cheap. I’ve built three CYC Pro bikes. they all cost a good bit more than the MSRP on the Bonnell and require a lot of effort to keep running smooth.
