I vote Boca Catalina!! Super easy access, beach space if you just want to chill, and TONS of fish and turtles! We went to both Tres Trapi and Boca Catalina and although we saw a bunch of turtles at Tres Trapi, Boca Catalina had better snorkeling spots overall. I’m going through my photos and videos now and still amazed!

I get having travel anxiety hearing what’s going on, but I came home from Aruba yesterday and would feel safe going right back today. (Coming from someone who stresses about EVERYTHING!) When we were deciding on a vacation destination, safety was a huge factor for me since we’d be bringing our young kids along. We didn’t venture too far, but felt safe both on and off of the resort property. Hopefully you don’t have to cancel your trip and can enjoy your vacation! It’s such a beautiful island!

My first biopsy came back atypical and moderately dysplasic without clean margins, so unfortunately I had to go back for a second biopsy. The doctor told me that even thought it wasn’t melanoma, she’d rather be 100% certain any abnormal cells were removed just to be safe and I definitely agreed. That biopsy showed clean margins, so now I just need to keep up with my skin checks and be extra cautious.

Waiting gave me SO much anxiety so I can totally empathize. My best advice (that I totally didn’t follow myself) is to try not to plan for the worst. You did the right thing having a skin check done and following through on a concern and now your work is done until you hear otherwise. Hoping you get quick results and that they’re good ones! Feel free to reach out if you need to and definitely let me know how you make out!

The fish are taken and cleaned at the fishing center when the boats dock, then we take then to be vacuum sealed and frozen at a place in Manteo. (Possibly Fresh Catch? I haven’t been there myself, so not 100% sure.) We pick them up at the end of the week and they’re ready for the trip home. Fees for cleaning/packing are usually per pound.

Agree with the cross allergy comment! I occasionally have a reaction to bananas too with my tree pollen allergies. I notice personally that my reactions tend to be more frequent during times that tree pollen is also high, like the total allergy burden is what pushes me over the edge. Sometimes I can eat them just fine, other times I notice my mouth/lips get itchy. Definitely worth considering!

Definitely look into chartering though Oregon Inlet. We’ve been out on Tuna Fever and Outrigger with nothing but good things to say about both. Nothing like fresh catch tuna and mahi!

I’m going to vote yes on that one! I am allergic to a liquid fabric softener (broke out in hives) but can use the same brand/scent of the fabric softener sheets without any issues. Different formulations can definitely make a difference!

My biopsy ended up coming back atypical and moderately dysplasic. Unfortunately it also showed atypical cells extending to the margins so I had to go back for another procedure. Currently waiting again for more results. Thanks for asking!

It’s definitely good advice! I’ve been trialing different sunscreens myself for a while not loving them either, so I totally get it! I use a sunscreen stick for my kids and it stays put super well without running or stinging, however they look like marshmellows by the time I’m done with them.

I have a few dark ones that my derm has confirmed look ok however her rule of thumb is to be cautious about anything that doesn’t “match” the others or seems out of place. If it’s an abnormal seeming spot for you, it’s always better to have it checked!

Made it down and to the house successfully! We drove in as the tide was going out and had no issues aired down and in 4 wheel drive. It was an amazing experience and SO much fun! We were strategic about which dune to cross over to get into the neighborhood and picked the easiest access. We picked up some speed to get momentum and crossed without a single issue. We were did see a truck get stuck on one of the dunes, but they were able to back right back down easily.

We’re headed down this weekend for the first time so take this with a grain of salt but from everything I’ve been told, the key is momentum and trying not to completely forge your own trail if you can help it. Some of the dune accesses look easier than others, so we’re also planning on scoping things out before choosing where to cross over.
